Balmy Breeze Beach Banner (Heartfelt Creations)

Good Friday morning, all!  I am so happy to be able to blog again.  I think the issues with my server have been set straight and now I’m finally able to share my Balmy Breeze Beach Banner with you!  Last month, I auditioned for the Heartfelt Creations design team.  When I made the cut for the Semi-Finals, they sent me a package filled with goodies from their new paper collection Balmy BreezeOld world vintage has been combined with tranquil seaside scenes (including a rustic compass, beach chair, fantastic surf, and beaming lighthouse. )  The neutral palette of peachy coral and minty green combined with rich browns and tans makes it perfect for masculine or feminine projects.  The minute I saw it, I knew I wanted to make this Balmy Breeze Beach Banner: (Click on photo for larger image)

Need a Vacation?  Make a Balmy Breeze Beach Banner!

I cannot begin to tell you how much fun I had making this banner.  It was like a quick trip to the coast!  I started the project by cutting out 7 fishtail banners from old cereal boxes.  I covered these with scenes from the Balmy Breeze paper collection and then embellished with cut out images, shells, net bags, corrugated cardboard and burlap.  But a picture’s worth a thousand words, so let’s take a closer look:

Heartfelt Creations Semi Finals April 2013 028Each of the large banners measures 4″ x 6″, and the smaller flags measure 2″ by 3 1/4″ for the larger size and 1 3/8″ by 2″ for the smaller flags.

I stitched around the perimeter of each flag, distressed the edges and inked with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.  Then each piece was dry brushed with white acrylic paint, mounted on the recycled chipboard and backed with a piece of dark brown cardstock.  The cardstock was dry embossed with a Spellbinder’s embossing folder and highlighted with Perfect Pearls.  If you click on the photo, you might be able to pick up the subtle glimmer.  I alternated between burlap, corrugated cardboard and shredded brown paper bags to provide texture on each flag.  The sentiments are from Heartfelt Creations Melodious Songbird Pre Cut Stamp Set.

All the shells are gathered from our beautiful North Carolina coastline.

The letters were cut from designer paper, backed with brown cardstock and treated with glossy accents.

I added eyelets and then threaded jute twine through them to attach each banner and flag to the ribbon.

Using images from the cut apart pages in the collection made it very easy to develop this project. And, I love the colors!

Here you can see the mesh netting I added to mimic the look of fish net. It was tapped with copper alcohol ink. The buttons were threaded with strings pulled from the burlap.

The final panel features a wonderful beach chair that was fussy cut from the papers. I highlighted with Picket Fence Distress Stain.

Are you feeling the beach breezes ruffling lightly through your hair and hearing the waves whispering their secrets to the sand?  I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to pack up the car and head east! Even if you can’t get away to drink in the ocean this weekend, I’m hoping you’ll be able to do this:

Broni, You officially just made my whole week worthwhile! This was one of those “Remind me why I am doing this” kinda weeks. You have no idea how much you just blessed me! I knew you would like this one, given the affinity for the beach we share. Sending you a hug!
