Authentique Paper Goes Back to School: Mini Album with Accolade, Companions and Frontier

Hello Friends!  What a fun day this is!  Today’s the day that Authentique Paper Goes Back to School!  The Authentique Design Team have prepared some amazing Back to School projects to share with you.  You can find them all HERE on the Authentique Blog.  For my project share, I’ve created a chunky monkey of a mini album made with the Accolade, Companions and Frontier Collection Kits.

This “from scratch” album measures a hefty 6 1/4″ x 7″ x 2 1/2″.  I created a 5 tab hidden binding system inside the covers to hold my pocket pages.  (You can find a tutorial for the Valentine’s Day album I made using this same system HERE. )

Authentique Paper Goes Back to School Accolade Mini Album by Kathy Clement Photo 02I used fussy cut images from Accolade along with a Tim Holtz Vintage Globe Die Cut and cute buttons to create this collage style cover.  The album is a birthday gift for our dear daughter in law who homeschools our 3 grandgirls.  She can record all the wonderful projects, events and field trips inside the album pages.

The spine is reinforced with a canvas binding for strength and durability.

I’ve accented the album with some cute school themed charms and Bold Red Check Ribbon.

There is so much to see inside this album, that I created a video tour for you.  But I thought you might like to see a few of the still shots first.  This is the inside cover.  I’ve used the floral paper and kitty cat border from Companions here.  Our son and his wife have 3 kitty loving daughters, so I thought it would be cute to make a pocket with these cute cats on it.  Accolade is such a neutral collection that you can pair it with almost anything and it still looks great.

The inner pages are loaded with flaps, fold outs and pocket pages.  To stretch my designer paper, I used Authentique Spectrum Cardstock.  It’s a perfect color match.

Look how great these papers from Frontier look alongside Accolade and Companions!  I had such fun mixing and matching collections!

This double page looks like a flap page, but it’s actually holding two very fun photo inserts.

These 4″ x 6 1/2″ photo inserts slip neatly behind the page.  To do this, just place adhesive on only 3 sides of your paper.

Authentique Paper Goes Back to School: The YouTube Video Tour

There are too many pages in this album for me to share all the photos here.  So I created this 10 minute video tour.  I’ll show you how all the mechanisms work and share tips and tricks that I used while creating the album.

I hope I’ve shared some tips, tricks and ideas that you can use in your own crafty adventures.  If so, I’d love to hear from you in the comment section below.

I’m sitting in the corner with the dunce cap on my head!  The date for the Authentique group share post was changed to FRIDAY, but I missed the memo!  So pop on by the Authentique blog tomorrow, Friday August 31, to join in the fun!

Thanks for stopping  by!

Ride ’em Cowboy Masculine Card

Ride ’em Cowboy Masculine  Card with Ribbon

Hello, Ribbon Lovers!  I have really enjoyed working with the Really Reasonable Ribbon Club Assortment this month.  How about you?  This Blue and Brown Ribbon Mix proved to be very versatile, working well on both masculine and feminine cards alike.  Today’s Ride ’em Cowboy Masculine  Card is made with Authentique Paper’s Frontier collection. I’ve used the Select Swiss Dots Tan w/Turftan Brown Dots Grosgrain Ribbon to add wonderful texture to this card.

After creating the 5″ x 7″ top fold card base, I fringed some natural canvas material to add extra texture to this fun card.  Don’t you just love that quote from John Wayne?

My double loop bow was a cinch to tie, thanks to my Zutter Bow-it-All Tool. A loopy natural burlap string bow and some vintage buttons from my stash finished off the bow cluster.

Do you ever use ribbon to add a border to your cards?  I love the texture it adds, and it certainly “ties” the bow in with the rest of the design!  Scor-Tape is my “go to” adhesive when it comes to adding a ribbon border.  It really holds, and does not bleed through the ribbon the way hot glue or liquid adhesive has a tendency to do.

TIP:  Don’t toss those canvas strings away!  I saved the pieces that were left over after fraying the edges of my canvas, then piled them up beneath this rusty star.  I love the added texture!

The top half of the card has a little gift card holder filled with a miniature Ghiradelli Chocolate.

The bottom half has a neat journal card that’s a perfect spot to write a personal message.  Leaving the sentiment blank means that I can customize this card for any occasion.

How sweet is this focal image of Mother and Child planting the garden?  Pretty doggone sweet!  This mixed media collage style folio measures 5″ x 5.75″ with a 1/2″ spine.

Picket Fence Distress Paint has been dry brushed onto the flower petals.  I also spattered the finished folio with some diluted walnut ink.

I love the rustic, homey feel of these Frontier patterns, images and sentiments.  It just takes me right back to my country roots.  I can remember helping my mom plant her flowers each spring.  She loved to dig in the dirt, and I loved to get in her way!

Little Birdie Flowers and Bold Red Plaid Ribbon add tons of texture to this very dimensional card.  I dug through my crafty stash and found these miniature rusty farm tools.  I have no idea where I found them…but I’m super glad I grabbed them when I did!

A miniature white picket fence and vintage button add even more country charm to this sweet folio.

Opening the cover reveals some really fun interactive elements! I tried some new “tricks” with this folio, and I think you are going to  like them!  For instance, the cover of this little flap features a 4.25″ square photo folio with a magnetic closure.

Inside the flap, there’s a lovely little pocket filled with journal cards. Authentique takes the blue ribbon prize for all the wonderful cut apart borders, stamps, sentiments, journal cards and focal images in this amazing collection!

And they make great belly bands, too!

This is the most fun I’ve had playing with paper in a while. Since I love all things plaid, gingham and floral, Frontier really speaks my language!

Authentique Frontier Country Blessings Folio Tutorial on YouTube

I’ve prepared a YouTube project share to go along with this fun Country Blessings Folio so that you can see all the various mechanisms in action.  After the short tour, I’ll show you how to build the folio base and add the flap feature.  You’ll also learn how to create the accordion style pull out page.  The decorating is left up to you, so as to keep the video from becoming too long. But you can always use these photos as a guide if you wish to replicate the project.

Once you know how to build this folio base, you can use it with any collection you choose.

I hope I’ve shared some tips and tricks that you can use in your own crafty adventures.  If so, I’d love to hear from you in the comment section below.

Authentique Frontier My Country Home Vintage Style Folio

Authentique Frontier My Country Home Vintage Style Folio

Hello, Friends!  Today I’m happy to share a brand new Authentique Paper collection with you along with a new style of folio.  So buckle up little crafters, because we are in for a very fun ride with the Frontier collection.  Yee haw!  This super dimensional My Country Home Vintage Style Folio was a blast to make, and I can’t wait to share it with you…so let’s get this show on the road!

Authentique Frontier My Country Home Vintage Style Folio by Kathy Clement Photo 01

The vintage images and patterns in the Frontier collection are totally scrumptious, wouldn’t you agree?  The top fold folio is slightly smaller than what I usually make, measuring just 5″ x 5.75″ with a 1/2″ spine.

Adding a Vintage Vibe to Frontier My Country Home Vintage Style Folio

A few mixed media touches along with loads of dimension and texture amp up the vintage vibe.  Here’ are some tips and tricks that you can use to achieve this same effect:

  • First, lightly distress all the paper layers.  Use the blade of your scissors or a distressing tool to do this.
  • Next, ink all the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.  No need to go overboard here, you just want to eliminate the white edges that the distressing leaves behind.
  • Add dimensionals between the layers to provide lift and to set the individual layers apart.

  • Think texture: I’ve used burlap ribbon, textured paper flowers, burlap string,  a metal fairy garden frame, rusty metal tools, chipboard buttons, a true vintage button and a crocheted doily to this vignette.
  • Finally, dry brush flowers and paper elements with a light touch of Picket Fence Distress Paint.
How Does Your Garden Grow?

These Little Birdie Crafts flowers and foliage really make the card special.  And look at these miniature rusted farm tools?  Are they cute or what?

I distressed the flowers with Picket Fence and Weathered Wood Distress Paint, then tapped just a hint of Icicle Stickles here and there to add a hint of sparkle.

Frontier My Country Home Vintage Style Folio: A Peek Inside

I didn’t let the small size of this folio interfere with the addition of loads of interactive elements.

There’s a flap page, of course!

But I gave this one a magnetic closure.  And how about this aged barn board paper?  It makes me swoon!  You can add a 3.5″ x 4.5″ photo here.

But wait, there’s more!  LOL  Open the first flap to find a pocket filled with 4″ x 5.5″ photo mounts.  You can add journaling or another photo on the right hand flap.

Accordion Style Pull out Page Element

The bottom half of the card features a 4.5″ x 5.75″ accordion style pull out page.

This is held shut with more of the burlap ribbon.

There are more flap pages, journal spots, pockets and tags waiting within.

These photo mounts are tucked behind this sweet vintage image.

Flaps and more flaps!  With lots of room for photos and journaling.

I even managed to fit in a little waterfall cascade.

Lift the flap on the left to find this cheery banner page.

Use the border strips to make pockets for journal cards from the cut apart page.

Can you see why I love this collection so much?  I think this would such a great gift for Mom.  And it doubles as home decor.  You can’t beat that!

I hear you…I hear you…”please let there be a tutorial!”  While I have not done a tutorial for this exact folio, I will be sharing a tutorial on Monday, April 23rd that uses this same folio base.  It is also made with the Frontier collection.  I just need to get the video and photos all edited before I share it with y’all.   But I wanted to give you a sneaky peek because I just love this collection.

I hope I’ve shared some tips, tricks and ideas that you can use in your own crafty adventures.  If so, I’d love to hear from you in the comment section below.
