Eileen Hull Woodland Teacup

Eileen Hull Woodland Teacup

Hello, Friends!  I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend with your loved ones!  We were super busy with family, but I did manage to squeeze in just enough studio time to create this Eileen Hull Woodland Teacup.

I’ve made about 20 of these sweet teacup gift packages this Christmas, but this one might be my most favorite.  It was created for a special friend, and with any luck, she has received it by now!

I purchased this wooden reindeer in a lot of crafting goodies that a friend sold earlier this summer.  Spray with with Ground Espresso Distress Stain, Antique Brass Mica spray and dust with a little bit of Grainy Texture Paste to alter the balsa wood, it looks right at home on this cup nestled in with the snow pine cones, holly berries and woodland tree.

These papers are from my Christmas scrap bin.  I had just enough of the red houndstooth paper to create the cups.  And I could not resist the urge to add a glittery red ornament to the base of the cup.

This vintage Santa spoon sort of fell into my basket at an estate sale a year or two ago.  There were 6 in the set, and I’ve been hoarding them for special projects like this.  The candy cane ornament is a flea market find.  It’s a collectible from B. Lloyd, and I love it’s vintage vibe!

I’ve had such fun making these little cups!  I wish I had time to make more…

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Christmas in July: Authentique Jingle

Christmas in July: Authentique Jingle Project Shares and Tutorials

Hello, Friends!  I’m sneaking just in under the wire to share a Christmas in July post using fabulous retro Christmas papers from Authentique Jingle!  We have a lot of ground to cover with project ideas, tutorials and even a video.  So grab a cuppa and a snack and we’ll get started!

Authentique Jingle by Kathy Clement Photo 01

It’s always a good idea to get a jump start on holiday projects. I’m hoping you’ll be inspired to get to work on your Christmas list as I share a new fancy fold card, a quick and easy flip folio and a trio of Christmas Gift Card Tag Ornaments with you today.

You Better Not Pout Easel Step Card Tutorial with Authentique Jingle

Cards that can double as gifts are awesome.  But cards that can be a card, a gift, and home decor…well those are fabulous, right?  This fun Easel Step Card design falls into that category.  I’ve seen these all over the internet lately.  This design is slightly modified so that I could make one of my standard 7″ x 5″ cards.  I have wonderful 12″ x 17″ kraft cardstock from Envelopes.com in my stash so there was no need to join papers together.  (Please note: you can find all the product links in the supply list at the end of this post.)   If you don’t happen to have this oversized cardstock in your stash, you can just join two 8.5″ x 11″ sheets of kraft cardstock with 1/2″ Scor-Tape, then cut, score and fold.

Authentique Jingle “You Better Not Pout Easel Step Card Measurements and Tips

Here’s a side view of this fun to make card.  It comes together so quickly that you will want to make loads of them!

TIP:  Keep the embellishments on this card on the simple side.  You want it to be able to fold.

Measurements and Scoring Guide for Authentique Jingle “You Better Not Pout: Easel Step Card

Ink cut edges with Frayed Burlap Distress Ink.  I also stitched around the perimeter of the two largest front panels

  • Start with a 11″ x 17″ piece of kraft cardstock from Envelopes.com
  • Trim to measure 7″ x 17″.
  • Now, on the long side, score at 1 1/4″ , 2 1/2″, 4 5/8″ 7″ and 12″
  • Starting with the 1 1/4″ score line, accordion fold as seen in the photo. (Mountain, Valley, Mountain, Valley, Mountain)
  • Next, burnish all scored/folded lines thoroughly with a bone folder.
  • Now cut 3 panels of designer paper that measure 6 7/8″ x 4 7/8″.  If you wish to have a wider border around the card, use  6 3/4″ x 4 3/5″  panels.  One is for the card front, the other two for the card interior. (Jingle 1, Jingle 2, Jingle 5,  Jingle 7)
  • Then, cut two 6 7/8″ x 2″ panels of complementary designer paper.
  • Finally, cut two 6 7/8″ x 1 1/8 panels of complementary designer paper.

  • Now adhere the inner and outer layers to the card base.
  • Trim the card focal from Jingle Eight. back with thin foam tabs.  Center and adhere.
  • Now punch out the “You Better Not Pout” oval, the “Ho, Ho, Ho” border and the “Santa’s Almost Here” border from the 12″ x 12 Component Sheet.
  • Sand the edges to give them a snowy appearance.
  • Back with foam tabs and adhere.
  • Embellish as desired.

TIP: For easy mailing, leave off the bow, jingle bells and flowers.

Authentique Jingle “You Better Not Pout: Easel Step Card: A Peek Inside

Authentique Jingle Easel Step Card Tutorial by Kathy Clement Photo 04

Inside, I created a pocket from the “Dear Santa” component.  Then I die cut one of Eileen Hull’s Credit Card Sleeves and Tag Dies to serve as a gift card holder.  The cute little tag on the bottom is also cut with this die.

TIP:  Mat the credit card sleeve die cut on kraft paper for extra stability.  Be careful to add just a very thin bead of adhesive, or you won’t be able to fit the gift card in the sleeve.

Authentique Jingle Mini Waterfall Folio

Now, you all know how much I love to use up my scraps.  After cutting the base for the Easel Step card, I had a lovely piece of 3 3/4″ x 17″ kraft card left over.  Why not use it to make a mini waterfall folio?  So I did.  Here’s how to create this super simple base:

  • First, score a 3 3/4″ x 17″ of kraft cardstock at 2 1/4″ , 2 1/2″, 9″ and 9 1/4″
  • Then, fold and burnish to create a vertical wallet with two 1/4″ spines and a tab closure.
  • Next, trim the short panel to measure 3 3/4″ x 2 1/4″.
  • Now, cut 2 peppermint stripe panels to measure 3 3/4″ x 2 1/4″.  These will line the tab closure.
  • Next, cut 4 Jingle panels to measure 3 3/4″ x 6 1/2″.  These will line the front and back covers, and the interior.  I used Jingle One, Jingle Six, Jingle Two and Jingle Six.
Authentique Jingle Mini Waterfall Folio: Cover Details

The focal image on the cover is made with one of the component sheet punch out images.

  • First, paint a Tim Holtz Baroque Frame with Iced Spruce and Picket Fence Distress Paints.
  • Next,  heat emboss the frame with Wow Neutral Ultra Shimmer Embossing Powder.
  • Now, place the cooled frame over the component image and very lightly trace around the inside oval.
  • Cut out the image about 1/8″ wider than your traced lines.  Erase the lines.
  • Next, mat this image inside the Tim Holtz Foundry Frame.
  • Then, die cut a doily with a Spellbinder Oval Majesty Die.   Adhere the frame to the doily.
  • Now, sprinkle some Mini Pearls Prills to resemble snowballs.
  • Adhere a double layer bow tied with RRR Shell Grey Shimmer Satin Ribbon and Snowflakes on Red Satin Ribbon.
  • Finally, add Little Birdie Renae Classic Flowers.  Tap the leaves with Picket Fence Paint to resemble snow.

Here’s a peek at the top tab.

Authentique Jingle Mini Waterfall Folio by Kathy Clement Photo 04

The inside of this mini waterfall folio is very, very simple.  You can’t add a ton of embellishments or layers because the cover won’t close.  To stretch my designer paper, I used Authentique Spectrum Cardstock (Robin’s Egg Two, Red Licorice One) to create flaps, pockets and the waterfall.

Create a little flap/pocket on the top.

Use your scraps to create a little gift card wallet.

  • Cut the Spectrum Cardstock to measure 3 1/2″ x 4 1/2″.   I used a Corner Chomper Stub Punch to shape the corners.
  • Then score a 1/2″ flap on the top of each panel and adhere them to the base.
  • Cut an 8 1/2″ x 1″ strip of Jingle Six to serve as a belly band.  To do this, I wrapped the belly band around the waterfall and folded.
  • Then I adhered the belly band to the base of the folio.
  • Add magnets as a closure.

Here you can see how I attached the belly band.  I also used scraps to create a little pocket filled with teeny tiny tags and an itty bitty folio.

Authentique Jingle is such an inspiring collection to work with.  I just kept getting one idea right after another.  Since so many of us give gift cards at Christmas, I knew I wanted to create some sort of super cute gift card holder.  Then I thought about handmade ornaments for the tree.  And what about gift tags?  So I kind of threw all these ideas into the hat and came up with these festive Gift Card Ornament Tags.  So, so fun (and easy) to make!

Authentique Jingle Gift Card Ornament Tags Video Tutorial by Kathy Clement Photo 02

Since I created a video tutorial for these tags, I won’t go into a lot of detail here. I’ll just show you the cute pictures with a quick comment.  Each tag has a ribbon/button hanger on the top.  I could see these hung on a tree, or strung on a banner or stocking hangers.  That way , they are also home decor.

The reverse side of each tag has a cute little gift card holder.  These are made with Eileen Hull’s Credit Card Sleeves and Tags Dies from Sizzix.

This is the tag we will make together in the video tutorial.  I’ve used the G45 Square Tag and Clock Dies on all these tags.

More Merry Christmas Cards

More Merry Christmas Cards with Polly’s Paper Studio Goodies

Hello, Friends!  How are you coming along with your Christmas card/gift list?  Little by little I’m getting it all done…or as done as it is going to be!  LOL  I have a couple more Merry Christmas Cards to share with you here today.  This time, I’ve used gorgeous vintage and retro tags from Polly’s Paper Studio.  You are going to love these sweet images.

Christmas Joy Hanger Card Look at the precious faces on this darling wood grain tag.  If that doesn’t make you feel like smiling, then you need a dose of christmas punch!   I downloaded the tag from Polly’s Paper Studio Etsy Shop and printed it onto matte photo paper.  It took hardly any time at all to layer it up with cute papers from MME Joyous Christmas, Black Plaid Ribbon from RRR, and Petaloo Burlap Poinsettias.

I designed this with a hanger so that I could dress up a bottle of holiday cheer.  It looks fabulous on a wine bottle, or even a bottle of really good olive oil.  As a bonus, you can hang it on a door knob or even on a Christmas tree.

Christmas Angel Gift Card Holder

Next I created a gift card holder using the Black Plaid Vintage Christmas Tags digital download. I fell in love with this sweet angel face.

A mini file folder is a great spot to tuck in festive Christmas goodies!

I added another tag from the download along with a little chocolate treat and a candy cane.  This is such a fun way to present a gift card, don’t you think?

I know you’re as busy as I am, so I won’t take up any more of your time.  I just thought I’d share in case your Christmas mojo needed a boost!

Thanks for stopping by!

Snow Much Fun at the Petaloo Authentique Holiday Hop

Petaloo Authentique Holiday Hop with Prizes: Snow Much Fun!

Hello, Friends!  Did you know about the wonderful holiday blog hop with Petaloo and Authentique?  This is Day 4, and it’s my turn to share some great ideas for holiday gifts and cards.  This is going to be snow much fun!

snow-much-fun-altered-sled-by-kathy-clement-for-petaloo-authentique-blog-hop-photo-3

Don’t you just love these patterned papers and images?  They are Authentique’s Classic Christmas collection and they are just my style!  In its former life, this little wooden sled was dark and dreary.  I gave it a vintage facelift with a coat of white gesso followed by DecoArt Crackle Texture Paste.  To add shimmer, I dusted on some Perfect Pearl Medium.I wanted the crackle texture to really show, so I also dusted on some Heirloom Gold.  I had snow much fun making this sled holiday ready!

dashing-through-the-snow-altered-sled-by-kathy-clement-for-petaloo-authentique-blog-hop-photo-1I love the Petaloo holiday flowers for the beautiful color and texture they add to this pretty little sled.  In case you’re wondering, the sled measures 17″ tall x 7″ wide. Perfect for a holiday mantel or under the tree!  Here are some detail photos for you:

Green and White Holiday Wreath

joyful-christmas-wreath-by-kathy-clement-for-petaloo-authentique-blog-hop-photo-1

Because I was having snow much fun, and since my work space was already strewn with all kinds of Christmas goodness, I decided to go ahead and make this little holiday wreath.  The base is Styrofoam by Floracraft.  I wrapped the base with wired burlap ribbon and some fancy trim.  It was easy as pie!  These regal white velvet poinsettia are so elegant when paired up with Ivory Silky Crush Ribbon.  I backed the wreath with a sentiment from Classic Christmas, then added a wee Santa and tree.  You could make one of these in a jiffy, my friends!  Wouldn’t it be a great hostess gift for the holidays?

Christmas: It’s All About the Cards!

woodland-christmas-card-by-kathy-clement-for-petaloo-authentique-blog-hop-photo-1

You honestly didn’t think I could finish up this play session without making a card, did you?  This image from Classic Christmas caught my eye right away.  I dressed this little Christmas Belle up with some UTEE and glitter, then surrounded her with twinkling star sequins, sugared berries, a golden deer, Antique Gold Ribbon and a gorgeous Petaloo posy.

woodland-christmas-card-by-kathy-clement-for-petaloo-authentique-blog-hop-photo-3I love the way the music paper on the back side of the image sort of bled through during the UTEE treatment.  My custom flower is made by stacking an Ivory Canvas Briar Rose atop one of those pretty white poinsettia.

woodland-christmas-card-by-kathy-clement-for-petaloo-authentique-blog-hop-photo-2Inside, I’ve added a gift card envelope that slips neatly behind the belly band on the left.

You’ll want to be sure to pop over to the Petaloo  and Authentique Blogs to leave comments because there’s a wonderful prize package connected to this hop!  I just know you’ll have snow much fun with these goodies if you win.

Thanks for stopping by!  I’d love to hear from you in the comment section below.

kathy
