I love Spellbinder dies and have a vast hoard of them in my studio.  I store them on the back of my studio door in a clear shoe organizer.

Kathy Shots-0057Here’s my Celebrate the Season card made with Spellbinder dies and embossing folders.

CHACB Christmas Challenge 05I created a 7″ x 5″ card base from red cardstock and cropped the corners.  A piece of Core-dinations Pearls cardstock was embossed in  my Spellbinders M-Bossabilities “Splendid” folder.  The floral pattern reminds me of poinsettias.  Then I die cut the wreath from some suede paper that I’ve had in my stash for ages.  Some of the greenery was tapped with Viva Decor White Stamp paint then dipped in Ranger Rock Candy Distress Glitter…which I have had for a long time and never used because I usually end up wearing more glitter than my card.  But this time, things went off without incident.  Christmas magic, maybe?

CHACB Christmas Challenge 03The red bow was cut from some faux leather paper that I’ve had for many years.  It has a little embossed texture and a bit of a sheen that made it perfect for this card.  I also used it for the corners.

CHACB Christmas Challenge 02I ran 1.5″ wide red gingham across the center of the card to give it  homespun feel, then topped the  ribbon with a bit of crocheted flowers that I’ve had forever.  The bow on the wreath is topped with metallic gold string and a couple of rusted jingle bells. I added a few teeny tiny star buttons on top of the greenery.  Simple, but festive.

So, what will you make to Celebrate the Season with Craft Hoarders Anonymous?  You have until midnight Pacific Time on Sunday, December 14th to join in the fun.  Just link your project to the CHACB BLOG and we’ll be popping by to pay you a visit.  But first, visit the rest of the team to get inspired.  Here are the links:

Layered Thanksgiving Tag

Craft hoarders blog blinkieLayered Thanksgiving Tag for Craft Hoarders Anonymous Challenge #18

Hello, Friends!  There’s a new challenge up at Craft Hoarders Anonymous.  This time, our Chief Hoarder in Charge has challenged us to Layer It!  In the spirit of the challenge, I have created a layered Thanksgiving Tag that uses metal, sprays and loads of layers.  Here are the details for the challenge:

One good way to use your hoard is to use a lot of it all at once! So let’s see those layers! We need to see at least THREE layers on your project. Ink, paint, embossing and mixed media products do count as layers.  Drag out all of that hoarded paper, or those embossing folders that are in the back of the drawer.  Use those stamps, dies and punches!  Show us the layers!

I lost count of how many layers there are on my Thanksgiving tag.  but I think there are about 10.  Take a peek:

CHACB Layer It 01The Closet of Shame contains an entire box of hoarded tags in all shapes, sizes and colors.  This is a Jumbo Manila tag that I embossed with my Heartfelt Creations All Geared Up Die.  To do this, I placed the dies behind my tag, cutting edge up.  Then, I topped my tag with my embossing mat and ran it through my die cutting machine.  Instead of cutting the paper, the shape of the die was deeply embossed into the surface of the tag. Next, I layered on Bundled Twig, Tea Dye and a touch of Mustard Seed Distress Inks.  The surface was then flicked and spritzed with water, and again with some home made gold mist.

CHACB Layer It 02I painted my chipboard frame with Antique Linen Distress Ink.  When the paint had dried, I sponged on some Tumbled Glass Distress Ink, then sprinkled on some Antique Gold embossing powder and followed that with some Aged Copper embossing enamel. I also hoard embossing powders. (She hangs her head in shame.) But when you can create cool effects like I did on the surface of this frame, I feel much less guilty about it.  I needed a focal to fit in my frame, and found this cute Thanksgiving image in my Crafty Secrets Seasonal Booklet .  This has 2 or 3 layers of UTEE on it. When it cools, you bend it to create fine cracks all over the surface.   Voila! You have just transformed a plain paper image into an old photograph.

CHACB Layer It 03 I also hoard flowers, and I rummaged around in the Closet of Shame where I found a bunch of mismatched posies and leaves.  I sprayed them liberally with Perfect Pearls Copper Mist and layered them onto my tag with my hot glue gun.  And yes, I burned my fingers.  If anyone knows how to work with a hot glue gun without burning your fingertips, I’m all ears!

The luscious ribbons are from the Really Reasonable Ribbon August Ribbon Club assortment, but you can buy the Autumn Diamond Print Grosgrain and the Olive Burlap Blend ribbon individually, too. I added some beautiful metal embellishments from Bo Bunny’s Apple Cider collection that had been languishing in my drawer of fall embellies.  And, I backed the tag with some designer paper to cover up all the messy inky bits…so that’s another layer on top of all the others. I really dug into my hoard for this one!

Now comes the real fun!  Hop along to find fabulous projects from the rest of the design team, and be sure to leave them a little love along the way.

“Nevermore” Mixed Media Card

Quoth the Raven: “Nevermore” Mixed Media Card for Craft Hoarders Anonymous

Hello, Friends!

There’s a new challenge up at Craft Hoarders Anonymous today.  Since Summer has just exited the scene and Fall is on center stage, this challenge appropriately titled: “Happy Fall.”  I’ve created a deliciously spooky “Nevermore” mixed media card as my inspiration piece.  It’s loaded with fun techniques, spook-tacular layers and a gorgeous digital image from our challenge sponsor, Polly’s Paper, which is owned and staffed by the one and only fabulously creative Ginny Nemchak (who also happens to be on the DT here at CHACB. )

One talented participant will win this fabulous prize package from Polly’s Paper!

Pollys prizeAdd a Little Dazzle also provided us with a wonderful assortment pack of metal art sheets that were wonderful to work with.  You’ll learn more about them in our next challenge!

“Nevermore” Mixed Media Card

Ginny provided the design team with an amazing  selection of digital images (which you can download from her ETSY shop.  Enabler alert: This shop is filled to the brim with gorgeous creativity kits, digital images, hand made cards, minis, banners. It’s one of my favorite places to shop online.  I selected one of the ravens from her fabulous “Nevermore” Halloween Digital Collage Printables.

CHACB Fall Challenge Glamour 06This is a 6″ square side fold card.  The papers are old, old, old…Bo Bunny, and it was a wedding collection, to boot!  I also dug into my stash of dies, and cut some black metal from Add a Little Dazzle using the Weathered Clock die from Tim.  I pulled out my hoard of embossing powders and mica flakes and added them to the clock.  I found a sheet of gold embossed paper that I’ve had for ages and colored it with distress inks, then die cut it with the Sun Kissed Fleur Die from Heartfelt Creations for the flowers.

CHACB Fall Challenge 05I think they are Spook-tacular!

Altered File Folder

CHACB Challenge16 07Craft Hoarders Anonymous Challenge #16: Altered File Folder

This is my second post for the day.  If you are looking for the Really Reasonable Ribbon Challenge, please scroll down, or click HERE.

Hello, Friends! There’s a brand spankin’ new challenge up at Craft Hoarders Anonymous Challenge Blog, and it promises to be loads of fun.   Challenge #16 is all about using office and/or school supplies in your project, so I dug around in my studio and found an old file folder and some coin envelopes and proceeded to create today’s altered file folder as my inspiration piece.  Before I share all the photos with you, here are the official details for this challenge and a little bit about our wonderful sponsors.

The wonderful folks at Heartfelt Creations and the very generous Sandy Redburn of Crafty Secrets have both sponsored the design team again for this challenge.  Be sure to visit their online stores and blogs by clicking on the links above.  We have all thoroughly enjoyed working with their gorgeous products!

The prize sponsor for this challenge is Lindy’s Stamp Gang.

About Lindy’s Stamp Gang
Lindy’s luscious luster is all uniquely two-toned! With vibrant shimmery sprays, flat sprays, vintage sprays, embossing powder and lots more!

Lindy’s Stamp Gang is the creative” baby” of Lindy Plakinger. She passed away in 2008 after bravely battling illness. She was a self-made cartoonist, loved drawing, crafting, designing new products, and creating her funny cartoon characters! One of her greatest joys was traveling to stamping and scrapbooking conventions across the US, demo-ing to her heart’s content with her sister, and giggle partner, Vicki!

Lindy’s Stamp Gang will continue, as was her hope, and dream. Her husband and daughter have taken over the company keeping her creativity alive. Tracey, (her daughter), has always been a “jar filler” in the background of Lindy’s Stamp Gang, but is now trying to fill some incredible shoes!

Altered File Folder for CHACB Challenge #16: Office Supplies

CHACB tute 01 I took a standard sized manila file folderand cut it down to measure just 4 3/4″ wide. The great thing about working with these folders is that they are very sturdy, and took all the abuse I heaped onto them. I played around with scoring and creasing until I had everything just the way I wanted it. Then I traced around the file folder and stitched my papers to the front.

CHACB cover 01I printed out Crafty Secrets gorgeous Gold Damask paper from the Digital Halloween Papers download and then stamped it using Ranger Sepia Archival Ink and Heartfelt Creations Classic Sunflower Background.  The flowers were cut with the matching Classic Sunflower Die and then shaped and stacked.  I brushed the tips with Fired Brick Distress Ink and then filled the centers with glass beads.

CHACB cover 02The Golden Damask paper is the perfect shade for sunflowers, don’ t you think?  The leaves were stamped with Crafty Secrets Journaling Stamp Set.  I tied a triple loop bow with  Ivory and Rust Gingham Ribbon  and ran Natural Jute String along the left hand side of the folder.

CHACB Challenge16 04I used velcro dots as my closure device.  Here you can see the placement, as well as how I folded the flap back on the left hand side of the folder.  The shaped flap on the right is one of the punch out pieces from the French Country paper collection. This was taken before the flowers were added.

CHACB Challenge16 06The folder opens out to reveal a collaged sunflower scene and three coin envelopes that I altered and filled with little tags.

CHACB Challenge16 08CHACB Challenge16 10CHACB Challenge16 11CHACB Challenge16 07Layering all these beautiful elements required some fussy cutting, but it sure was fun.  I love the metal crown in the lower right hand corner.

CHACB Challenge16 09This is the back side of the folder.  You can see my messy stitching.  My machine did NOT like stitching through heavy cardstock and a manila file folder, but with a little gently coaxing, it finished the job.

CHACB cover 03

I made a matching alligator clip for the folder, but I’m not sure I like it.  What do you think?
