Live Simply, Laugh Often, Love Much Birthday Card

Dynamic Mojo Oct 8 2013 08jpg Live Simply, Laugh Often, Love Much Birthday Card

Greetings on a wet and gloomy Tuesday afternoon.  I thought I would pop in real quick with this week’s Mojo Monday/Dynamic Duos card.  I wasn’t going to play this week, but the Dynamic Duos #73 colors were so scrumptious and the Mojo Monday #314 sketch was so alluring, I had to get my craft on.  Here’s a peek at the original sketch and color combo:

Do you blame me for having to play along?  Here’s my Live Simply, Laugh Often, Love Much Birthday Card:

Dynamic Mojo Oct 8 2013 03  I used a whole host of products in the creation of this card.  The Island Indigo and Cajun Craze cardstock and DSP is from Stampin’ Up!  The Sentiment tag and fishtail banner were made with Graphic 45’s Typography paper.  The Vintage Floret Die and PreCut stamp set are from Heartfelt Creations as are the Delicate Asters Dies and Stamps.  But they all play together well, don’t you think?

Dynamic Mojo Oct 8 2013 06  I began with a 5″x 6 1/2″ card base in Island Indigo.  I stitched around this and then added on some layers…and some more layers!  The Island Indigo Designer paper was layered beneath the Vintage Floret Frame, which had been stamped with Versamark and heat embossed with Wow Glitter Embossing Powder.  This was matted with Cajun Craze.  The doily, also from Stampin’ Up! was inked with Antique Linen Distress Ink, and then I die cut a circle from Island Indigo to fit the center of the doily.

Dynamic Mojo Oct 8 2013 067jpg  I love this Delicate Asters die and stamps from Heartfelt Creations.  They just make the prettiest blossoms, especially when you alternate layers of color.  And, the sentiment from the Typography collection contained the exact right shade of blue and rust.  I love when that happens.

Dynamic Mojo Oct 8 2013 05 I used Rusty Hinge and Broken China Distress Stain to color my seam binding ribbon.  then perched another aster on top.

Dynamic Mojo Oct 8 2013 04  Here, you can see the dimension and shine.  Oh, how I love layers!

The inside carries over the color scheme: Dynamic Mojo Oct 8 2013 09

And here’s the card with the decorated envelope.  Such great fall colors!

And speaking of birthdays, today is my niece Carrie’s birthday!  Carrie was born when I was just a young lass of 14.  She was the first of my nieces and nephews and so dear to my heart.  She’s grown into a lovely, gracious woman that I’m very proud of.  So Happy Birthday, Carrie!  This Live Simply, Laugh Often and Love Much Birthday card is dedicated to you.  Sending you a big ole birthday hug!!!

Thanks for stopping by…and thanks for your sweet comments.  Hearing from you makes me happy right down to the tips of my crafty little fingers!  Until next time,

Bundle of Joy for Dynamic Duos & Mojo Monday

Hello, Friends!  Happy first day of October.  Can’t believe we have just entered the final three months of 2013!  Today I’m popping in with a sweet little bundle of joy card that I put together for Mojo Monday 313 & Dynamic Duos #72.  Here are the original challenge colors and sketches:

And here’s my take on this fabulous sketch and luscious color combo:

Mojo Monday Oct 1 03  This is a 5″x5″ card made with Primrose Petals and Blushing Bride cardstock base.  The designer paper is from DCWV.  The rosettes were made with Tim’s Mini Rosette die.  Paper tape from Basic Grey and sticker from Prima.  So, yes…this was basically a “raid the stash” kind of card.  Here are a few more pictures:

Mojo Monday Oct 1 05  I added a little stitching because I love the texture it adds.

Mojo Monday Oct 1 04 The buttons were originally brown, but I colored them black with my Spectrum Noir pen.  I wanted them to tie in with the silhouette in the sentiment panel.

Mojo Monday Oct 1 07 The rosettes were sponged with Vintage Photo ink and threaded with jute string.  I also added the jute string to the organdy bow.  Double layer bows are so much fun!

Mojo Monday Oct 1 08  The interior of the card.  I computer journaled the sentiment for this bundle of joy card and free hand cut the heart.  All other die cut shapes were made with Spellbinder’s Nestabilities.

Mojo Monday Oct 1 01 Mojo Monday Oct 1 02 And of course I lined the envelope and covered the flap.

And that’s my Bundle of Joy card!  I love these two shades of pink together.  How about you?  If you have any questions about today’s card, please feel free to ask me.  I respond personally to each and every comment you leave…because your comments make me happy right down to the tips of my crafty little fingers!  Until next time,

Life is Not a Dress Rehearsal

Dynamic Duos #71 01 Life is Not a Dress Rehearsal

Dynamic Duos #71: Kraft & Black with the Option of Wet Embossing

Hello, friends!  How’s your Tuesday going?  It’s the very last Tuesday in September 2013…can you believe it?  Today I have a fun little card made entirely with kraft and black papers.  Loving color the way I do, this Dynamic Duos challenge was quite a poser for me.  But the light bulb eventually came on, and I went to work on this Life is Not a Dress Rehearsal card made from Graphic 45’s Kraft Reflections.  The challenge also gave us the option to wet emboss our project.  Embossing powder?  Yes, please!  Here’s the color palette for the week:

…and here’s where I went with it: Dynamic Duos #71 03  Not what you were expecting?  I know…I had more fun with this color combo than I thought I would, too.  The die cuts were tapped with Versamark Ink, sprinkled with Stampendous Marcasite embossing powder and heat set.  It lends a nice vintage shine to the project and lifts it in just the right way.  I love this sentiment, too!   The older I get, the more I realize that life is not a dress rehearsal.  It’s a one time opportunity to live, explore, create, dare, experiment and love.  You know how when we are little we always say, “When I grow up I want to be….?”  Well, folks, we are there…and it’s high time to get busy living!   The inside sentiment picks up this theme:

Dynamic Duos #71 05  It says, “The privilege of a lifetime is being who you are.”  I wasted so many years of my life wishing I was someone else, trying to BE someone else, not being happy with who I was.  Well, the past 10 years have been a liberating journey for me.  I finally decided to like myself…the way I am…today.  Not 10 pounds less from now…not when I get my act together…no exclusions.  I’m just going to be me, and love being me.  I’m not talking about selfish or crude or irresponsible living…just daily being thankful to be alive and making the most of each day without shackling myself with doubts about being good enough, regrets from the past or fear about the future.  So far, I like it!

That’s it for me today, folks.  I hope you have a wonderful day…filled with the knowledge that you are loved right now, just as you are, no holds barred.  Thanks for stopping by the blog, and thanks for your kind comments.  They make me happy, right down to the tips of my crafty little fingers.  Until next time,

Life is a Cup of Tea

Dynamic Duos #70 07Life is a Cup of Tea: Dynamic Duos #70

I know, I know….I already posted once to day.  But all of a sudden I realized that the Dynamic Duos challenge ends today at noon PST.  So, I am, once again, just slipping in under the wire.  Here’s the color combo for this week’s challenge:

Can I just say, I am a huge fan of yellow with green?  I had to play, right?  So here’s my Life is a Cup of Tea card:

Dynamic Duos #70 09  I embossed Pistachio Pudding cardstock and then hit it lightly with a little Picket Fence Distress Stain.  The So Saffron panel was cut with a Spellbinder’s die.  I used a cute acrylic stamp set from Darsie’s Heart and Home collection called (appropriately) Cup of Tea.  I used the rose stamp with Versamark to create my background, and heat set it with Ancient Gold Embossing Powder.    The edges were sponged with Scattered Straw Distress Ink.

003 (3)  The teacup was stamped onto So Saffron cardstock using Versamark ink and heat set with Super Fine White embossing powder from Ranger.  I don’t know i f you can see it here, but in real life, it looks like old porcelain, which is very cool.

Dynamic Duos #70 08

I stamped the sentiment onto a piece of Whisper White and then put it onto the tea tag–which I saved from my morning cuppa!  I used small dots of white glue to hold the string just the way I wanted it.

Dynamic Duos #70 10  Here’s a peek at the inside…pretty straightforward…but I do love that little “porcelain” cup!

Dynamic Duos #70 02

Dynamic Duos #70 01 And, I decorated the envelope, too.

Thanks for letting me share my Life is  Cup of Tea card.  Those of you who know me are aware of my lifelong love for a good cup of tea!  How about you?  Are you a tea drinker?  Coffee float your boat?  Cocoa?  Let me know….I love hearing from you because your comments make me happy right down to the tips of my crafty little fingers.  Now, keep calm…and put the kettle on!

Take Time to Enjoy the Simple Things

Mojo Duo September 9 2013 03

Mojo Monday #310 and Dynamic Duos #69 Take Time to Enjoy the Simple Things

Good Tuesday Morning, friends!  I’m just popping in real quick to share this week’s Mojo Monday/Dynamic Duo combo: Take Time to Enjoy the Simple Things.  The colors for this week’s Dynamic Duos challenge are Pacific Point and Old Olive.  Both are bright, bold colors and I don’t work with that palette very often.  I’m more comfortable with pastels and jewel tones.  But a funny thing happened as I began to work with this duo…I got really happy!  So maybe I need to dip into those bold, bright colors a little more often.  Here’s this week’s fabulous sketch and the color sample so that you can play along:

When I saw the sketch, I knew I wanted a lot of white in my card to balance those bold colors.  So I cut a 5x 6.5 panel from Pacific Point cardstock and then  stitched around it with green thread.  I topped it with an embossed panel of whisper white that I matted with old olive.

Mojo Duo September 9 2013 08 I added a 3.75×3.75 square of Pacific Point cardstock that was stamped with white pigment ink and heat embossed with white superfine embossing powder.  This was matted onto Old Olive Cardstock and then “fancied up” a little bit with twine, ribbon, another piece of embossed cardstock and a few pearls.  I liked it, but it needed something…..maybe a button? So I got out my button box, not too hopeful of finding just the right shade of blue for this card, and lo and behold…this button was right on top of the heap.  What are the odds?

Mojo Duo September 9 2013 07  Not only was it the perfect shade of blue, but it had little stitch marks around the outside.  If I’d had a magic wand, I couldn’t have wished up a more perfect embellishment.  And, yes…I took time to enjoy that simple thing!

I added just a touch of Washi tape in the upper left hand corner because I felt the card needed the additional touch of pattern, touch of pattern, and the washi tape was also magically the perfect colormatch. Mojo Duo September 9 2013 09

I carried the color palette and the theme of this card onto the inside:

This paper is from My Mind’s Eye, and the stamp is from Artistic Outpost Typography.

Do More of What Makes You Happy

Making this card got me thinking about the simple things in life…how wonderful they are and how often we fail to take the time to enjoy them.  I love to watch the morning sun as it filters through the leaves of the trees in our back yard.  I love that first sip of hot tea every morning.  I love the sound of my husband’s keys as they jingle in the door lock when he comes home each day.  It’s good to pay attention to the little things that add so much richness to our every day lives.  I also think it’s important to take the time to do the things that bring us real joy.  Life is short….and we were given the gift of this life so that we could enjoy it.  Work is important, being responsible is part of being an adult, taking care of business is a necessity.  But when was the last time you stopped to do something just because it made you happy? If it’s been too long, maybe you need to think for a moment about what DOES make you happy…and then go do it!  One of the reasons I play along in Mojo Monday and Dynamic Duos is because I have so much fun putting this paper puzzle together every week.  What are the simple pleasures of life that you enjoy?
