Graphic 45 St. Patrick’s Day Tag Treat Holders

St. Patrick’s Day Tag Treat Holders with Graphic 45 Calendar Collections

Hello, G45’ers!  St. Patrick’s Day will soon be here!  I thought it would be fun to create some little goodies for my favorite leprechauns to make the holiday even more fun.  Graphic 45 has 3 gorgeous calendar collections: A Place in Time, Children’s Hour and Time to Flourish.  And I have 3 gorgeous grand girls!  What a happy coincidence!  I pulled out all 3 collections, some G45 Staples long Ivory Tags and went to work designing these St. Patrick’s Day Tag Treat Holders.

Aren’t they cute?  And they are a quick and easy project to make, which is even better!

A Place in Time Leprechaun Tag: How to turn a Tag into a Treat Holder

Each tag in this trio follows the same basic “recipe.”

  1. Place a long Staples Tag (I used Ivory) on your scoring tool so that the long side is against the rail and the bracketed edge is on your right.
  2. Starting at the left hand side, score the tag at 3.5″ and again at 4″.
  3. Gently fold the tag slowly so that you don’t crack the heavy cardstock.  You might need to very lightly moisten the area along the crease with a baby wipe or damp paper towel.
  4. Burnish with a bone folder to set the crease.
  5. Decorate with paper.
  6. Add a pocket to the inside.
  7. Thread ribbon through the grommet, and suspend a little shamrock charm, if desired.
  8. To make quick work of  covering the spine, use wide Graphic 45 washi tape.

It’s really that simple!

For this St. Patrick’s Day Tag Treat Holder, I filled an antique bronze charm with designer paper then covered it with a cabochon.  Green gingham ribbon wrapped around a paper spool and sealed with a button makes a sweet accent.

Decorate the inside with more pretty papers.  I die cut this pocket from designer paper, but you could also score an ATC tag in the same way that you scored the larger tag.

If you don’t want to put chocolate in the pocket, you can always add a tea bag, a gift card, movie tickets or some other small treat.

St. Patrick’s Day Tag Treat Holder with  Time to Flourish

This Time to Flourish Tag has a great botanical feel.

I love the little shamrock key that I hung from the grommet.

Here’s a peeky at the inside, all dressed in pretty shades of green and purple.

I had a pretty tag left from my Tags and Pockets to tuck in along with the chocolate treat.

Children’s Hour St. Patrick’s Day Tag Treat Holder

I still love this sweet image from the Children’s Hour March page. Because it was a little too large for my tag,  I fussy cut it to fit.  Next  I tucked stamps and flowers around it.  For a finishing touch, I hung a sweet chippie from the collection and a wee shamrock charm in the grommet.

Here’s the inside view.

Trim down an ephemera card and use it as a spot to write your greeting.

This design is adaptable to any occasion or theme.  Just change the papers and you’re good to go!

I hope I’ve inspired you to break out your gorgeous Graphic 45 papers, Staples tags and chips.  If so, my job is done here!

May the road rise up to meet you!

Cheerio,

kathy

Celebrate Spring with Graphic 45 Secret Garden Tag Album Tutorial

Celebrate Spring with Graphic 45 Secret Garden Tag Album Tutorial

Hello, G’45’ers!  When I was a little girl, I spent many happy hours reading books.  I was often sick and confined to bed, but books transported me to many magical and enchanting places.  One of my favorite childhood books was Frances Hodgson Burnette’s Secret Garden.  I loved reading how Mary and Dickon discovered and restored that secret walled garden. While they were busy digging in the dirt and growing flowers, a true friendship blossomed as well.  It’s still a favorite today, and thinking about spring always brings fond memories of this lovely tale.  Naturally, I had to break out my Graphic 45 Secret Garden Deluxe Collector’s Edition papers and create a little tribute to spring.

Don’t you just love this sentiment? “Where you tend a rose, a thistle cannot grow.”  You could build your life around wisdom like that!  The base of this album is a Graphic 45 Staples 5×7 Kraft Book Box.  I created a shaker top and then decorated with pretty trims and Petaloo Canvas Briar Roses.

Shake Things Up with a Clear Acetate Cardstock Cover

Shake up your design by adding a shaker element to the box cover.  After you create your cover design (but before you glue it to the top of the box) go all the way around the edges with foam tape.  Fill the center with sequins, buttons, glitter, or small chipboard pieces like the ones I used here.  Peel off the liner from the top of the foam tape, place the trimmed acetate on top and press the edges to seal.  I added this pretty rose trim around the edges to finish everything off.

It’s very hard to photograph anything that is covered in clear acetate, but I gave it my best effort!  Those are real lavender buds inside the acetate along with sequins and small chips from the collection .

Altering Metal Staples

I wanted the album to have a real shabby chic feel, so I painted all my Graphic 45 Metal Staples with a coat of “Whisper” Chalk paint from Americana Decor.  When the first layer dried, I tapped the raised edges with Tattered Rose Distress Paint to create custom shabby chic metal accents. Then you can fill the piece with pretty flowers as I did here.

Or tuck a word inside the label holder as I did here. The spine is decorated with fussy cut images from the collection, Petaloo Sage Vintage Velvet Hydrangea and some vintage buttons from my stash.

The box is held shut with a 1.5″ Ivory Crushed Satin Ribbon and bow.   Would you like to see what’s inside?

I thought you might!  Just as Mary’s Secret Garden was hidden behind an old wall, this sweet little tag album is hidden inside the box.  It’s loaded with fold out pages, tiny folios, pull tabs and all kinds of wonderment.

Inside the front cover of the album, I created a pocket that I filled with sweet springtime greeting card.

Oh, how I love this collection!

Decide to Be Yourself Easel Album with G45 Portrait of a Lady

Decide to Be Yourself Easel Album: Graphic 45 Portrait of a Lady CHA Project

Hello, G45’ers!  I’m excited to be sharing another project that graced the Graphic 45 Booth at CHA/Creativation last month.  Portrait of a Lady is such an elegant collection filled with gorgeous colors and patterns.  But it’s also loaded with inspirational sentiments like the one that inspired me to make this Decide to Be Yourself Easel Album.  Go grab a drink and a snack as there are loads of photos, a video tour and some designer tips that I’d love to share with you today.

The easel album measures 8″ square and comes with 12 kraft pages in a spiral binding.  I used the signature image on the cover along with a row of pretty little banner flags, some fussy cut perfume bottles, Petaloo flowers, ribbon, twine and vintage buttons.  To age the papers, I spattered them with diluted white acrylic paint.

Are you swooning yet?  Oh, how I love these papers!

Highlight small elegant images by framing them.  Bring out the design in an ornate frame by tapping raised areas with Tattered Rose Distress Paint. Dig into your stash of vintage lace, trims and vintage style buttons because this collection fairly cries out for such additions!

Here is a side view so you can see the easel that allows the album to stand upright for display.

A Peek Inside

Beauty begins the moment you decide to be yourself.  That’s the quote that inspired this project.  Such wisdom!  The thought process behind the design was to create an inspirational decor piece that could be changed out as time passes.  And you knew there had to be a pocket somewhere, didn’t you?

Here are a few of my favorite interior pages.

Portrait of a Lady Easel Album Video Tour On YouTube

If I sound a little “off” or tired in this video it’s due to a horrible virus that hit me during the Christmas holiday.  I was still recovering when this video was made.

Thanks so much for letting me share this album with you today.  I hope you are inspired to go and create something beautiful!

Cheerio,

kathy
