Throwback Thursday Z Fold Pop Up Box Card Tutorial with Prima Spring Farmhouse

Hello Friends!  Happy first day of Spring! It’s a perfect day and time to share this Throwback Thursday Z Fold Pop Up Box Card Tutorial with you.  Since many of us are staying in, and hopefully staying healthy, I thought I’d pop in with a little springtime cheer.  And the Prima Spring Farmhouse collection is just bursting with spring themes.  This dimensional card would make great springtime home decor, too.

The base for this card is 5 1/2″ x 5 1/2″.  It folds flat for storage, and opens for display.

A few simple folds allow you to create this dynamic display.  I even found room to add in a little pocket and teeny tiny notecard.

Prima Spring Farmhouse Get Well Card: How Now Brown Cow?

Hello, Friends!  You don’t usually think of putting a cow on a get well card, do you? But I think the pretty bovine image on this  Prima Spring Farmhouse Get Well Card looks downright cheery.

I’ve lost count of just how many projects I’ve made with this gorgeous paper collection.  It really as been a favorite.  I guess it takes me back to my country roots.  Growing up in Vermont, they always said there were more cows than people.

I had a bunch of scraps left on my desk after having made the Prima Spring Farmhouse Country Chic banner.  Since I needed to make a get well card, I decided it would be easier to make a card than put them away.  Here’s how this 5″ x 7″ card front came together.

Prima Spring Farmhouse Get Well Card: Creating the Layers

Prima Spring Farmhouse Get Well Card by Kathy Clement Kathy by Design Photo 03

  • First, create 5″ x 7″  side fold card base from brown cardstock.
  • I had a scrap of  the butterfly images from the 4″ x 6″ journal cards and tucked this in the upper right hand corner of the card.
  • Then cut a 4 7/8″ x 6 7/8″ mat from pink cardstock.
  • Now, stitch a 4 3/4″ x 6 3/4″ panel of the brown check paper to the pink layer.

TIP:  I like to build my card front “off site.”  In other words, don’t glue the decorative card front to the card base until after the inside of the card has been completed.  This keeps the card front clean and prevents dimensional elements from getting crushed.

  • Next, cut a 4 3/4″ x 2 1/2″ belly band from the heart/dot pattern.  Mat this on a slightly larger scrap of brown cardstock and adhere.
  • Then cut a 4″ square from the gold foiled paper with the bees.  Mat this on both brown and pink cardstock and adhere.
  • Now cut a 31/2″ x 4 1/2 rectangle from the handwriting page.  Mat as before and adhere.
  • Then fussy cut along the top and side of the cow image from the 3″ x 4″ journal cards.  Mat this on a slightly larger piece of brown cardstock.
  • Finish the card front with Prima Spring Farmhouse Flowers and Say It in Crystals enamel dots.  Add in some copper metal corners for a touch of class.  Then add Tulip Taffeta and Brown Micro Gingham Bows for the perfect finishing touch.

Country Chic Banner Spring Farmhouse

Country Chic Banner Spring Farmhouse

Hello, Friends!  Happy Friday!  I stole a few minutes of free play time yesterday to make this country chic banner with Prima Spring Farmhouse papers.  The idea has been rattling around in my brain ever since I purchased the collection but I just haven’t had the time to bring it to life.  Now, banners are one of my most favorite things to make….and one of my least favorite things to photograph.  I worked for hours editing these photos, and just could not get them to really represent how pretty this banner is in real life.  So even though Julia Child admonished us to “never apologize, never explain,”  I am apologizing in advance.  But I thought you would want to see them in case you are looking for a little springtime home decor.

To create the pennants for the banner, I die cut chocolate brown cardstock with a banner die from My Favorite Things.  The second layer is pink burlap that I free hand cut to fit between the brown gingham patterned paper, also cut with a die.  Since the largest die measures just 3 1/2″ across, I was able to use a lot of the scraps left over from earlier Spring Farmhouse Projects.  So that is a win!

Country Chic Banner Spring Farmhouse: The Details

Tulip Pink Taffeta bows are topped with brown micro gingham. A while back, I found a whole bag of hand crocheted doilies at an estate sale.  These are added to the banner to provide more texture and to add to the farmhouse vibe.

I think this banner would look so pretty hanging in the kitchen.

Someday, I’ll tell you all the story about my mom and the cow.  It’s a good one!  This image brought that story back to my mind, and I had a good laugh over it.

The pennants are machine stitched onto a very pretty beige netting.  In real life, the colors are soft and dreamy.  I think the fact that the photos were shot on a very overcast day affected the colors.  But at least you get the idea.  If you’d like to purchase it, you can find it in my ETSY shop…but there’s only one!

I hope I’ve shared some ideas to inspire you in your own crafty adventures.  If so, I’d love to hear from you in the comment section below.

Spring Farmhouse Beautiful Life Sympathy Card

Prima Spring Farmhouse Beautiful Life Sympathy Card

Hello, Friends!  Well, it’s Friday, so I thought I’d pop in and share this Prima Spring Farmhouse Beautiful Life Sympathy Card that I made for my dear friend earlier this month.  Dianne is one of my best friends on the planet.  We were young wives together, raised babies together, cried, laughed, dieted, partied, fussed and made up…and through it all, grew as close as two friends can be in this life. So when Dianne’s mom passed away, i wanted to send something beautiful to Di to  let her know that I was thinking of her and cared deeply about her loss.

I was privileged to know Grace for many years and she was one amazing woman. Born during the Great Depression, she came from very humble, country roots.  Her life was filled with obstacles, yet she always found a way to overcome them while staying positive and vibrantly beautiful.  She lived to be 96 years old!  Isn’t that amazing?  Always stylish, always classy, Grace lived a beautiful life.  And that is what inspired this 5″ x 7″ top fold card made with papers from Prima’s Spring Farmhouse.

I know this is not  your typical sympathy card…but it really makes me think of Grace.  The focal image is a die cut wreath topped with Prima Flowers.  The vintage cameo looks so soft and feminine in the center of the frilly flower.  One of my cherished vintage buttons rests on top of the bow cluster of 1/2″ Champagne Wrinkled Ribbon and Gold Metallic String.

Prima Spring Farmhouse Beautiful Life Sympathy Card: A Peek Inside

The inside has a stamped sentiment on blush cardstock.   I wrote my own personal message to Dianne on the 3×4 Journal card.

It’s never easy to say good-bye to one’s mother, so I hope this card brought Dianne great comfort.  I like sending a card so much better than flowers.  Flowers die…but cards stay beautiful for ages.

I hope I’ve shared some ideas and inspiration that you can use in your own crafty adventures.  If so, I’d love to hear from you in the comment section below.
