Crafty Secrets July Linky Party, Announcement and Giveaway

Announcement, announcement, announcement!

It’s the first of July and that means it’s  time for another Crafty Secrets Linky Party!…but before I share this month’s project with you, I have a little announcement to make.  Did you notice anything different about my blog today?  See the new badge over in the side panel? Starting today, I am on the Crafty Secrets/Heartwarming Vintage Design Team!  Talk about being happy right down to the tips of my crafty little fingers!  Sandy Redburn, owner of Crafty Secrets invited Elizabeth Lincoln and me to join the team earlier this month.  As soon as I managed to pick myself up off the floor, I responded with a hearty “YES!”

Those of you who know me are aware of my love for all things vintage, and nobody does vintage better than Crafty Secrets.  The very first stamp I ever purchased was the adorable Little Chef set…and the rest is history!  LOL  I’m over the moon to be working alongside one of my crafting heroes: Vicki Chrisman, and her amazing design team :Michele Kovack, Darlene Pavlick, Melissa Bove, Rebekah Faries, Sheila Rumney, Elizabeth Lincoln and now ME!  ‘Scuze me for a moment…I have to get up and do a little happy dance! So the Crafty Secrets July Linky Party is my maiden voyage, and I can’t wait to get started

A Little Bit of Ink…and Some Digital Magic, too

Crafty Secrets has always had gorgeous papers.  Their Radiant pad was always one of my favorites, but is now out of print.  So I was tickled pink when Sandy decided to release it in a digital format.  I know, I know…I was reluctant to make the move toward digital, too.  I’m not as computer savvy as all the “youngsters” out there, and the thought of working with digital images made me nervous.  Plus, I just like the process of inking a stamp and putting it onto paper.

But you know what?  Working with digital papers, images and ephemera is not that hard!  And you know what else?  It has some really distinct advantages: you have a never ending supply of paper on hand because you can print off as many copies as your little heart desires.  No more need to hoard a favorite pattern because it’s your last piece.  You can just print more.  Now, for a paper addict like me, that’s a dream come true!   You can also combine digital crafting with traditional crafting (this is called hybrid crafting.)  And that’s exactly what I did with this card:

Crafty Secrets July Linky Party01  I used the Radiant digital files to print off these fun papers.  The pink and white polka dot and the pink and black hounds tooth papers were printed right off my computer onto regular cardstock in a matter of seconds. I then pulled out one of my all time favorite clear art stamp sets: Glamour GirlCrafty Secrets July Linky Party03   Don’t you just love this sassy lady? (Pssst…of these clear art stamps are on sale!  Click the link and you can see the whole set. ) She was stamped onto watercolor paper twice using Memento Tuxedo Black ink. I colored one image in with my Spectrum Noir markers, then cut both images out, using foam tape between the layers to create dimension.  Crafty Secrets July Linky Party03 (4)

I also stamped the martini twice using foam tape to layer the colored images. I stamped one of the fancy ladies in hats, matted the image with black cardstock and covered it with Glossy Accents.  This way, your stamped images can be used as embellishments, which is fun…and it saves a ton of money!

Making a Custom Button from a Digital File

The other thing that is great about digital files is that you can use your computer to  size objects to go with your project.  I wanted a fancy black button for this card, but didn’t have a real button that was quite what I was looking for. I went into my Button Up digital file, re-sized this button to the exact size I wanted it, then printed it out.  I used a 1″ punch to cut it out, then cut three 1″ circle out of an old cereal box.  I glued these together, placed the button image on top, pierced the holes with my craft pick and sponged a little black ink around the edges to cover up the chipboard.  The button was tapped with Versamark ink and heat embossed with clear embossing powder. (Use your craft pick to clear the embossing powder out of the button holes before you heat emboss.)  I added a little Diamond Stickles and voila!  Almost instant designer button…for practically free.  Now, that’s exciting!017 (3)

You know I love to line envelopes, right?  (I have a tutorial on creating custom envelopes here.) In lining this envelope, I discovered another great thing about using digital papers and images: I printed the papers on plain printer paper!  They were easy to work with and didn’t add weight to the finished product, making it less expensive to mail.  How great is that?

Hmmmm…I feel as though I am forgetting something…oh, yes…

I am a bit late in getting something ready but will do today – it has been one of those weeks – we all have them – what I like the best about Craft Secrets is the variety of selections – I have the Barber shop collection and it is just great for men’s cards which are hard to come by these days and I do enjoy making them -enjoy your ride Kathy with Crafty Secret – your work is amazing! Have a happy Crafting Day! Gail

I too love the vintage look. I’m not very savvy with the computer so doing digital is not my cup of tea. LOL I just love getting ink on my fingers and playing with the stamps. Maybe someday I will venture into the digital world but not ready yet. Welcome to the team.
