Hello, Friends! Autumn is finally here, and Halloween is knocking on our doorstep! To help you get ready for a frightfully good time, I’ve created a little Halloween Owl home decor using a “not too spooky” vintage image from the Crafty Secrets Digital Halloween Printables Download. These printable images are wonderfully vintage, and so much fun to work with. Best of all, you can download these right to your computer, so no waiting for stuff to arrive in the mail! And with the countdown clock for Halloween ticking away, you have to love that feature!
The hardest thing about creating this project was choosing which cute image to use! But I have a fondness for owls, so went with that venerable fellow.
I printed the image out to measure about 5 1/4″ x 8″ then used a free font I found online (Blackboard) to add the sentiment. I love this aspect of working with digital. You can create your own custom sentiments, print them in your own custom colors and eliminate the tricky process of trying to computer journal it in the right place. Once I was happy with the sentiment, I printed it on 80# text paper. I did add a little color with my Spectrum Noir markers, especially around the owl’s eyes. I really wanted them to pop! Once that was done, I matted the image onto orange felt and added decorative stitching around the sign and the black background. I cut a slightly larger piece of natural burlap, fringed the edges, and stitched the whole thing together.
I raided my orange button jar and glued these cuties onto black ric rac then added my fall leaves, some vintage buttons and that cute pumpkin brad. I filled his mouth with yellow Stickles, just for fun! The stick was sewed onto the top of the wall hanging using Halloween Baker’s Twine which was tied in a bow. Halloween Chevron Striped ribbon makes a perfect hanger along with a big orange button and a couple of decorative leaves.
