Hello, Friends! Seems like all I can think about lately is the beach. My heart is longing for a wind swept beach: sand between my toes, long walks, searching for hidden treasures. But, alas, the schedule is full, and the beach must wait. So I’ve been satisfying my longing by creating beach themed art. The other day, I pulled out my Crafty Secrets Creating With Vintage Illustrations CD where I found this beautiful printed scene of children playing at the shore. That inspired me to dig into my digital art stamps where I found these two lovely Mermaids just begging to be invited to the party! So I created this jumbo tag, hand wrote a few lines from the T. S. Eliot poem and titled it, “I Have Heard the Mermaids Singing.”
This was fun to create. I wanted to incorporate the mermaids into the scene, almost as though they were part of the original. I sized them in PaintShop Pro, then printed them out on watercolor paper. They were colored with Aquarelle Watercolor pencils and detail brush, then fussy cut. I used my craft knife to cut along the outline of the rocks so that I could slip them behind , then adhered them with foam dots so that they would pop up from the scene. I was pleased with how well this worked. As you can see, in the original image, they are leaning or sitting on stairs:
I added some shells and fibers, vintage sheet music and embossed the rocks with Stampendous shabby white embossing powder.
Diamond Stickles were added to the tails and Frosted Lace Stickles to the hair. The title was simply printed out on watercolor paper and inked with Peeled Paint Distress Ink. I used Salty Ocean Distress Ink around the edges of the tag. I used my father’s vintage fountain pen to write the sentiment.
Thanks for stopping by….may you hear the mermaids singing today, wherever you are.
