Heartfelt Creations Buttons and Blooms Shaker Card for the Alumni Hop

Hello, Friends!  Welcome to the October 2018 Alumni Hop.  Today I have a sweet and sparkly Buttons and Blooms Shaker Card to share with you.  You know I had to purchase this entire collection because, hello….buttons!

I hadn’t made a shaker card in a while, so that’s the direction I went in.  This is a 6″ x 6″ shaker card with a top fold opening.  Here’s how I put the shaker together:

  • First, use the square die from Cut, Mat, Create 2 A Die to cut the pocket image from the 6″ x 6″ card front in the  Buttons and Blooms Paper Collection.  Save the pocket image to use inside the card.
  • Next, stitch or adhere a 5 3/4″ square of clear cardstock to the back side of the frame you just created.
  • Now, select a 6″ x 6″  card front to serve as the background image for your shaker window.
  • Then place two layers of foam tape about 1/2″ from the edges on the back side of this card front.  Do not remove the liner from the top layer of foam tape yet.
  • Fill the cavity with sequins, beads,  Prills, small buttons…whatever strikes your fancy.  Be careful not to overfill, or the shaker won’t shake. (Note: I used glitter in my shaker, but I would not do that again, as the static electricity caused it to cling to the shaker window.)
  • Next, remove the tape liner, center your shaker frame over the background image and adhere.
  • Adhere this entire assembly to the front of a 6″ x 6″ card base.

Die cut tickets and tags from the paper collection using the Tickets and Tags Die.

Use these to decorate the card interior.

Cut out the A2 card front, but leave the extra blank journal card attached.  Score along the journal card to form a flap.  Adhere the flap behind a 5 3/4″ square panel of patterned paper from the collection.  Then adhere the entire assembly to the card.

Then use a circle die to cut a thumb hole from the pocket image we saved in Step One.  Adhere 3 sides to form a gift card pocket.  Insert a cut tag here.  Cut a border strip and adhere it at the top of the page.

Now your card is ready to give to the lucky recipient!

On with the Hop!

Love the card. Shaker cards are my Nemesis. I try and try they just don’t come out right. I’ll keep trying though.

Your lovely card makes me so happy I bought this HC set when it came out! I’m in awe of those vellum flowers, Kathy. They are stunning. I’ve yet to try stamping on vellum but I have to try it after seeing these. Your use of so many pieces of the paper pad have got my creative juices flowing, too After seeing this work of art, I know I’ll be crafting with this new release this weekend. tfs

Kathy, what a darling card! Heartfelt Creations always has the most beautiful papers. I love all the pretty buttons and those rock candy stamens in the flowers are a fabulous embellishment. All of the beautiful flower patterns and colors somehow make me think retro flower power 60s. I love it! Thank you for sharing! Hugs!
