Love Lives Here Valentine

Authentique Romance: Love Lives Here Valentine Card Folio

Hello, Friends!  Wow…it’s the last week of January!  That means Valentine’s Day is hot on our heels.  So today I’m sharing a vintage style Love Lives Here Valentine made with Authentique Paper’s gorgeous Romance collection.

This 5″ x 7″ top fold card has a lovely vintage vibe thanks to the black and red color palette.  I wanted it to have the look of old ironwork, so I treated the chipboard and metal corners with a shabby black embossing powder that I found in my stash. I echoed this with the jet black vintage button that sits regally on top of the Lipstick Red seam binding bow.

TIP: for a fun, easy embellishment, wrap your card with gold metallic string.  Tie on some tiny antique bronze keys and add a bow.  Did you  notice that one of these keys is shaped like a heart?  How sweet is that?

I combined papers from the 12×12 Collection Kit along with the 6×6 bundle to make sure that the patterned papers did not compete for attention.  I read somewhere that when you are designing with patterned papers, you want to think “quarter, nickel, dime”.  The quarter is the larger pattern: in this case, the red lattice in the background.  The “nickel” is represented in the small leaf pattern.  And the “dime” would be the small stripe.  The black and white heart pattern is large, but it reads like a neutral because of the colors.

It’s always fun to carry a color or a theme inside a card.  So you’ll find the same red and black color palette inside.  Don’t you just love the red and white lace patterned paper?  Ooh la la!

I love surprises, so I tucked a sweet one inside this darling little ribbon tied gift wallet.

Sweets for the sweet…and room to write a little love note.

The large pocket on the bottom holds a tea bag wallet, a honey stick and a vintage silver plate spoon.  I just love it when a card doubles as a gift!

Kathy, what a lovely card…perfect for a Valentine. Thanks for sharing it and that very helpful rule about quarter, nickel and diming the patterned papers. Will definitely be using it.

I love this too Kathy. I think I just bought the Echo Park Valentine pack at Tuesday Morning. I am planning on making the hubster’s VD card, but haven’t yet!

Quarter, nickel, dime…I’ll remember that. No, I have not made a Valentine card yet. I’m having fun with the goofy nature of Alice by Stamperia. Thank you for this charming card.

Hi Kathy how gorgeous is this card!!! So much going on to like including the inside with that gorgeous lace paper. Sound like the rule of 3 that’s used in what you read but scaled down for proportion. Very good idea though and certainly looks good on your beautiful card. We’re starting to see snow and it’s very cold. Take good care xx

My, my, my!!! Luv this Valentine’s card Kathy! Black and white with red are one of my favorite color combos! …cause I have a Coca-Cola kitchen! Lol! Luv your Iron Work look too! I gotta try that! It sure gives it the vintage style! Matching your inside with the outside of the card …puts your cards at the top! Luv every detail on this one! And no, of course I haven’t started my V cards yet! Lol! I needed some inspiration! And I’ve got it now …thanks to you! Hugs, Suzy Q
