Masculine Mojo Valentine

Masculine Mojo Valentine

Good Tuesday morning, friends.  I’m just popping in very quickly today to share my Masculine Mojo Valentine with you.  A dear friend asked me to create a special Valentine for her husband.  Since he is a contractor by trade, I thought it would be fun to use a wood/tool/handyman theme for his card.  And, since I fell in love with this week’s Mojo Monday Tall and Skinny sketch challenge I combined the two to come up with this manly man card. Here’s the sketch:

And here’s my interpretation:

My cutaway card measures 3 1/4″ x 7″ and is built on a base of kraft cardstock.  After cutting away 3/4″ from the front card flap, I stamped the background with my SU Wonderfully Worn background and Sepia Archival ink. I ran this through an embossing folder to achieve the woodgrain texture.  This was sponged, inside and out,  with Walnut Stain Distress Ink to bring out all the gorgeous wood grain.

I stamped my Tool Shed background onto Crumb Cake cardstock using Sepia Archival Ink.  This was heat embossed with clear powder.  I die cut the image with my Spellbinder circle die and matted it with red cardstock.  The edges were distressed.

I cut a 2 1/2″ x 5 1/4″ panel of Mocha Morning DSP from Stampin’ Up and then rounded the corners.  This was matted on a slightly larger panel of red cardstock.  I colored some Jesse James tool embellishments with my Spectrum Noir markers so that they would match the color palette of the card and then adhered them with my glue gun.  The hearts are punched from red cardstock…and, this is the really fun part….sandpaper!  I used Black Archival ink to stamp the “hugs” and “kisses” sentiments onto the hearts.  Those stamps are from my Crafty Secrets Message in a Bottle stamp set.  Of course I added lots of inking around the edges as well as some really masculine brads.

The inside of the card follows the theme of the outside.  I fussy cut the oil can from the stamped Tool Shed panel and finished the card off with a computer journaled sentiment.

I even made the envelope match!  I know a lot of us struggle to come up with Valentines for the men in our lives, but this one is “constructed” to please the manliest of men!  It’s loaded with layers, textures and tools.  What man wouldn’t love it!  I hope I’ve shared some ideas that will inspire you in your own Valentine projects.  If so, I’d love to hear from you!  You know it makes me happy right down to the tips of my crafty little fingers.

Cheerio!

Very cute, Kathy. I love how your cards and envelopes always coordinate. 🙂 The card is so cute. I love the different layers and cuts. The polka dots are very clever and really add some pop to your card. The stamped tool images and the little dimensional tools are such a cute embellishment! <3 Candy
