Mixed Media Beautiful You Canvas (Heartfelt Creations Wednesday)

Happy Heartfelt Creations Wednesday one and all! Are you all ready for the 4th of July?  I have a Boston Butt in the crockpot, potato salad and slaw in the fridge and baked beans all put together.  The rest of the family is bringing more sides and desserts…because my oven DIED!  Yup.  Right before a weekend of company,  it went on strike.  I have a new one ordered, but it won’t be in ’til Monday.  So, no baking for me!  If this constant rain doesn’t stop, we’ll be celebrating indoors and that would be a shame since Dale has spent the last several days building a Corn Hole Toss.  So, a little sunshine would be mighty nice.

Anyway…rain or shine, I have a fun new project to share with you.  It uses papers from the gorgeous Daphne Paper Collection as well as the amazing Decorative Lace Border Die. I used several other stamps and dies in this piece, and you can find the full materials list and complete tutorial on the Heartfelt Creations blog.  While you are there, be sure to check out the fabulous projects from the other members of the design team.  You can find the links to their blogs in my sidebar, right below the Heartfelt Creations DT badge, too.   So, without further ado, I give you my Mixed Media Beautiful You Canvas:

Heartfelt Creations Canvas June 2013 I started with a blank 8×10 canvas frame and used a stencil to add some gesso for texture.  While that was drying, I made the dress by pleating the Decorative Lace Border Die into a skirt.  I sketched out a bodice and joined the two with glue dots and ribbon.  The details are on the blog. When the canvas was dry, I went to town with Distress Inks, stamping, die cutting and all kinds of wonderful Mixed Media fun.

Heartfelt Creations Canvas June 2013.jpg007 Another close up of the die cuts, little flowers and stamping/stenciling/inking.   Mixed media is so much fun, because you just let yourself go and see how things unfold.  If you mess up, you can always cover up a goof with gesso and start over.  It’s very user friendly!

Heartfelt Creations Canvas June 2013.jpg008 The center of the canvas …I love the butterflies.  This mixed media Beautiful You canvas is probably one of my favorite pieces.  I had that delightful free, relaxed, in the groove feeling while creating it, and ideas were exploding in my brain like popcorn.  I love when that ole Mojo flows, don’t you?

And that’s it for me today, friends!  I hope you enjoyed this edition of Heartfelt Creations Wednesday.  I had so much fun creating this project to share with you.  If you have any questions about the process after reading the tutorial on the Heartfelt Creations blog, please ask!  I’d be more than happy to help in any way I can. Don’t forget about my giveaway this week.  Just leave a comment here before Sunday at 6PM EDT, and I’ll give a Crafty Secrets $25 gift certificate to one lucky winner.  If you’d “like” my Kathy by Design Facebook page and/or subscribe to my blog, I would truly appreciate it!

I hope you all have a fun and safe 4th of July.  Thanks for stopping by, and thanks for your kind comments.  They make me happy right down to the tips of my crafty little fingers.  Until next time,

Gorgeous work! I hope the rain stops for you tomorrow. I live in Oregon and we usually get a few sprinkles on the holiday, but not this year. It’s been 90 degrees for a week now with no let up in site! I’ll trade you my sun for some of your rain. Anyway, I love your projects; your style is fabulous. Looking forward to your next release.

Yes, I do love when that mojo just starts flowing! And clearly it was flowing here! I am just amazed at this piece and your ability to create a collage of seemingly unrelated things in an unstructured manner. Fabulous!
