Hello, friends! I’m back today as promised with a detailed look at my Moments with You Mini Album that I made to celebrate the release of the Sweet Juliet collection from Heartfelt Creations. This hand bound mini album is my own design and is another of my cereal box creations. (What can I say? My husband adores breakfast cereal, and I can’t bring my thrifty self to throw away all that good cardboard. I had to do SOMETHING with it all! LOL)
The instructions for this are quite detailed, and there are a lot of steps, but the basic construction is quite basic, so please don’t feel as though you could never make one. Once you get the first page made, you’ll see that the process is actually pretty simple. Here is the supply list and detailed instructions:
Heartfelt Creations Product Used: HCPC 3563 Post Card PreCut Set; HCPC 3568 Moments With You PreCut Set,, HCPC 3565 Recovery Wishes PreCut Set, HCD 740 Sweet Juliet Die. HCDP1237 Antiquities Paper Collection
Other Products Used: Empty Cereal Box, Alcohol Inks in Espresso and Metallic Gold; , Black Soot Distress Ink; Clear Embossing powder, vellum, Cardstock; Distress Markers; Water Brush; Embossing Folder, Small brown paper bags (4”x5”) Mini Binder Clip, Glossy Accents; assorted embellishments; Scor Pal or other scoring tool, metal eyelets, eyelet setting tool, Scor-Tape or other strong double sided adhesive.
Directions: Cut the top and bottom off an empty cereal box (6”x10”x2”) Cut the box to a height of 5.25”. Cut along the front right hand seam at the front of the box to open the box up, but do not cut any other seams. These will become your spine and your front closure. Lightly sand the finished surface of the box, wipe clean and then ink both inside and outside with alcohol inks. When the ink has dried, run the front cover through a Spellbinder’s M-Bossabilities folder to add dimension. Buff the top of the album with Black Soot ink, sprinkle with clear embossing powder, tap off the excess and heat set. This creates a faux leather effect.
Use a scoring tool to score the 2” spine area at ¼” intervals. Accordion fold. Score the right hand flap at 1” and use a bone folder to crease. Punch two holes 1” apart in the front center of the flap. Add eyelets and set with an eyelet setting tool. (I used a Crop-A-Dile) Match these holes up with the front of your cover and punch again, setting with eyelets. These will be the openings for your ribbon closure. The cover of the book is now finished.
Stamp the Postcard PreCut Set onto cream cardstock using Old Paper Distress Ink. Cover with clear embossing powder and heat set. Color the image as desired using Distress Markers and a water brush. When you are pleased with the results, distress the edges of the image heavily, ink with Vintage Photo DI and tap the entire surface with Versamark. Sprinkle with clear embossing powder and heat set. This gives the stamped panel the look of old parchment. Add Diamond Stickles as desired and set aside to dry.
Cut two of the vines from the Sweet Juliet Die. Ink with green ink while still in the die. Set aside. Stamp the “Moments with You” circle twice. Color the outer edge of the first circle with Tattered Rose Distress Markers and a water brush. From the second circle, cut out the center, color and use foam tape to adhere to the center of the first circle. Top with glossy accents and set aside.
The inside cover: Cut two rectangles of Sweet Juliet paper to line both the front and back covers of the book. Round the outside corners and adhere with strong glue. Decorate as desired.
For the inner pages: Cut eight 6 ¼” x 5” rectangles from neutral card stock. Round the right hand corner of each page. Score the left hand side at ¼” and crease with a bone folder. Add ¼” Scor-Tape to the front side of each crease and adhere to the edges of each accordion fold in the book’s spine.
When all the pages have been bound into the book, add the small brown paper bags to every other page by running Scor-Tape along the bottom back edge. Create a tag to fit inside each pocket, and hold it in place using a mini binder clip.
Decorate each page of the book using elements from the Sweet Juliet Paper collection. When the inside of the book is finished, decorate the cover with the prepared panel, the stamped circle sentiment, the die cut vines, lace and embellishments of your choice. Run ribbon through the eyelets to close the cover.
Here are photos of the individual pages as they appear in the mini album:
Each little bag contains a decorated tag that is held in place with a mini binder clip. The larger black alligator clips are not part of the album. They simply held the pages open while I took the photographs. You can click on the photos for larger images and a more detailed view of the album.
Again, ignore the big black clip. I had to use it to hold the pages open. I love the beautiful stamps in this collection, too.
The cover is lightly watercolored to give the book an aged, faded appearance. The vintage lace is from an old handkerchief, and the pink “flower” in the top left hand corner is also vintage jewelry. I used Glossy Accents on the center of the “Moments with You” stamp to make it look like a vintage button.
