Hello, Friends! Greetings from waterlogged North Carolina! It has rained and rained and rained and if it doesn’t stop soon we’ll all have to start traveling by canoe instead of by car! It has rained so much and so often that it’s a challenge to find enough dry weather to mow the lawn. The upside is, everything is lovely and green…and the frogs are happy! It’s good weather for staying inside and working in the studio, and I have been doing just that. Today, I have a fun Steampunk Birthday card to share with you:
Lots of yummy layering and some fun and easy techniques found here. The images are all from Graphic 45’s Steampunk Debutante collection. I matted them on black cardstock, distressed the edges and then embossed with antique gold embossing powder.
The two smaller art nouveau ladies were treated with UTEE and then I cracked the embossing to give them an aged look. I love this technique.
The amazing dress form was fussy cut, and given a coating of Distress Rock Candy Stickles. I did the same with the teal roses, and then popped both up onto foam tape to add even more dimension.
Gears were fussy cut, rhinestones were sprinkled around and a simple stamped sentiment was added to finish off the card. Here’s a peek at the inside: And a close-up, because I really love this font: I computer journaled the sentiment, cut it out with my Spellbinder’s large ovals, inked the edges and that was that. Here’s the card with the envelope:
I love the way the wings are slightly curled! And you can really pick up the gold embossing here as well. This card was made for an adolescent girl with an artistic bent. Do you think it will fill the bill? That is always a challenging age to create for; you don’t want to go all cutesy and offend, nor do you want to go too mature. I tried to find that elusive middle ground between the two and hope she will like the card.
That’s all for me today, folks. Come back tomorrow for a reveal of the new Gateway to the Seasons collection from Heartfelt Creations. I am in love with the colors and images in this beautiful release! And, I’ve had a sneak peek of what the other HC designers have in store for you…prepare to be wowed! In the meantime, i hope you have time to do something creative: in the kitchen, in the garden, in the home….creativity feeds the soul! I so appreciate your kind comments; they make me happy right down to the tips of my crafty little fingers. Until next time,
