Sun Kissed Fleur Mini Book (Heartfelt Creations)

Sun Kissed Fleur from Heartfelt Creations

I would like to introduce you to a gorgeous new collection of paper, stamps and coordinating dies. Here are the official release notes from Heartfelt Creations:

This collection includes 2 dies: the Gift Ensemble die (yes, you can make a fancy box with this die!) and the Sun Kissed Fleur die which cuts out 10 different flowers at a time. How’s that for value?
The paper collection, called Sun Kissed Collection, comes in vibrant aquas and oranges and fades to light greens and yellows. The paper pack comes with 24 12 x 12 papers that have designs on both sides and are acid & lignen free. There are 2 sheets per design; some are dramatic; others are subdued.
You also have a wonderful selection of floral stamps to choose from: fancy tags, an overflowing basket, beautiful patterned backgrounds, borders and corners.

Leave a comment on the Heartfelt Creations Blog by May 14th and you will be eligible to win the entire release valued at $180.91!

Creating With Sun Kissed Fleur

I received this collection when my first Design Team package arrived in the mail.  (Oh, boy…was that ever a good day!) I was immediately struck by the colors and designs: very vintage, very beautiful!  As I thought about what to create with this gorgeous paper and these unique dies, I suddenly knew I wanted to create a mini-book with fancy edges.  Here’s what I came up with:

This little book measures 5" x6" and the base is made from one sheet of folded paper. It has an accordion fold spine and two inner pockets holding a magnet and a book mark.

This little book measures 5″ x6″ and the base is made from one sheet of folded paper. It has an accordion fold spine and two inner pockets holding a magnet and a book mark. Click on photo to enlarge.

To make this mini book, you will need one sheet of paper, cut to 12″ wide by 6″ tall.  You will mark the paper on the long side at 4″ and at 8″.  Then, you will score every half inch, starting with 4″ and ending at 8″, giving you 9 score lines in the center of your page.  Accordion fold the score lines and the base for your book is built.  Easy, right?

Adding the inner pages to your Sun Kissed Fleur Mini Book

To add the inner pages, you will need to cut 12 rectangles of card stock to a dimension of 5″ by 6″.  I did half of these in yellow and half in teal.  I stamped each cardstock panel with the background stamp.  Next, cut 12 rectangles  of designer paper to 5 1/2 inches by 6″.  Use a template or the edge of a die to cut a decorative edge on the right hand side of 6 of the rectangles and on the left hand side of the other 6 rectangles.  Ink the edges and decorate each page the way you would like it to look.  Here’s what I did:

004 (2) This opening page contains a little pocket on the right hand side.

007 (2) I created the pocket by stitching the designer paper to the cardstock.  When I backed this page , I did not glue the right hand edge shut.  Instant pocket!  The little tag is a bookmark which says, “This is where I fell asleep.”

008 (2) The next page spread also contains a pocket.  This one has a refrigerator magnet that I made to fit inside.

009 (2) See the edge of the magnet?

012 (2) I think interactive cards and books are so much fun.  The vellum flowers were all made using the incredible Sun Kissed Fleur Die from the collection.  You can make 10 flowers and 2 leaves with just one pass through your machine.  014 (2) The next page spread, featuring an image from the cut apart page and another quote about flowers.

017 On this page, I went a little crazy with the flower making!  I used the gift box die to create a little envelope and then filled it with pretty posies. the vellum is from Paper Temptress.

020 (2) Final page features this pretty basket and floral garlands created with stamps from the collection.  The quote on the last page is from Luther Burbank: “Flowers always make people better, happier and more helpful. They are sunshine, food and medicine for the soul.”

Adding the pages to the Sun Kissed Fleur Mini Book

You will glue each finished page onto the left hand side of each of the accordion folds.  I used washi tape to decorate the page break in each spread.  Here’s what the book looks like all opened up:

And here is the cover, without the ribbon closure:

Finally, here’s a couple more photos, just because I really like the way this one turned out:

These may be called mini albums but I think they are quite labor intensive and should be called major albums! You can just see all the time and love you put into this one! Well done my friend!

Exquisite! I love, love, love it – the colors speak to me and the beautiful flowers with rhinestone centers are so pretty. Fabulous work on this one – it’s almost better than real flowers and would be an absolute delight to any flower lover or gardener. Bravo!
