Small Craft Studio Tour and a Winner!

Small Craft Studio Tour Part 1 and Winner of Week 4 Happy Blogiversary Giveaway

Hello Friends!  Happy Friday!  As many of you know, my husband and I sold our big family home last year and downsized into a cute little ranch home.  Of course, this meant I had to create a whole new studio space.  This was fun…and challenging.  My former studio was more than twice as big, and had almost unlimited closet/storage space.  I had to do a major purge before and after moving.  I’ve spent the last 10 months working on my new, smaller studio and I can honestly say, I love it!  Since we’ve been celebrating my 4th Blogiversary this month, I thought it would be fun to share a video tour.  This Small Craft Studio Tour Part 1 goes over the basic layout as well as some furniture design and storage ideas. So, welcome to my small craft studio!

Small Craft Studio Tour Part 1

Hey!  What About the Giveaway?

Not to worry, my friends!  I haven’t forgotten about announcing the winner of my Week 4 Happy Blogiversary Giveaway!  I put all the numbers into random.org and the winner is:

#5: Barb Macaskill

Congratulations, Barb!  Please e-mail me your mailing address and I’ll get your crafty goodies mailed off to you.

As luck would have it, Barb hails from the state I grew up in: Vermont. Isn’t that amazing?  And to make things even more interesting, she lives in the town next door to my old hometown!  I even went to church there.  It really is a small world!

A Heartfelt Thank You

I hope you have had as much fun as I did during this Blogiversary Giveaway.  I wish I could have sent a prize package to each and every one of you.  Thank you so much for taking the time to respond to my questions.  I gathered a lot of useful information:

  • You prefer YouTube to Snapguide
  • Your favorite color combos
  • The things you enjoy about my blog (and some changes I need to make!)
  • The types of projects you enjoy creating

All this intel will find its way into future blog posts which means my blog will hopefully become even more relevant and helpful as time goes by.  Hearing from you all over the course of the past 4 weeks has been a fantastic experience.

Thank you again for taking this artful journey with me.  I couldn’t as for better travel companions!

I’ll be back tomorrow with Part II of my small craft studio tour.  I’ll share specific storage and organizational tips and before/after photos of the studio.  I hope you will join me!

Thanks for stopping by!

Cheerio,

Happy Blogiversary Week 4

Hello, Friends!  Happy Saturday!  I’m just popping in very quickly to reveal the winner of my Happy Blogiversary Week 3 giveaway and to reveal the prize for Happy Blogiversary week 4.  I know you all have errands to run and paper to play with, so let’s get right to it, shall we?  This week’s winner, chosen by random.org is:

Janet Saieva

Congrats, Janet!  If you’ll e-mail me your address, I’ll get Tammy’s dies right out to you so you can start enjoying them.  They really are fabulous!

The winner has 72 hours to claim her prize.  If I have not heard from you within 72 hours, I’ll choose a new winner.

Happy Blogiversary Week 4 Prize Package

This brings us down to the prize package for Happy Blogiversary Week 4, the final week of celebration.  I think this one is going to make all the stampers in the room very happy!

Lucky for you, I had already purchased all these fabulous Graphic 45 stamps before I earned a spot on the design team.  So when they added these to a recent design team package, I set them aside for a future giveaway.  There are 5 stamp sets in this bundle:

  • Cityscapes (you will loooove that postcard)
  • 2 from Voyage Beneath the Sea…all steampunky and fun
  • 2 precious stamps from Children’s Hour with lovely images and sentiments

That should keep you good and inky for some time to come. I’ll be looking through my crafty stash for some other goodies to add in and will stuff a Priority Mail Envelope as full of crafty goodness as I can.

How to Win

Here are the guidelines for entering this Happy Blogiversary Week 4 giveaway

  • You must be a subscriber to my blog.  It’s easy to subscribe.  Just fill in the form at the top of the right hand side bar.
  • You must be a resident of the US or Canada.  Sadly, international shipping is just too expensive for my piggy bank.
  • Visit me on Snapguide or YouTube. You’ll find free tutorials from me in both of these spots.  Take a look around and leave a comment on at least one Snapguide tutorial or YouTube video.
  • Leave a comment below letting me know which format you prefer: Snapguide or YouTube and why.  This will help me focus my attention on the format that my readers prefer.

You have until 5PM on Wednesday, February 8th.  I’ll announce the final winner here on the blog on Friday, February 10th.

Thanks so much for helping me celebrate 4 years of blogging!

This month, I have a super sweet baby project to share with you.  I used a 7 Gypsies Solo Tray and Graphic 45 papers (Sweet Sentiments/Little Darlings) and some die cuts to create this little altered baby tray for a friend.

Kathy by Design/Little Darlings Altered Baby Tray 02The solo tray measures 6″ square with a 4″ x 6″ opening and 3 2″ square openings.  I dug deep into the Closet of Shame and came up with some fun embellies like the sweet Baby Animal Print Ribbon, White Iridescent Metallic String, Cosmos Daisies and Magnolia Blossoms.  Oh, and I added a few White Spiral Stamens into my flower/ribbon cluster.  I also inked the edges of the flower petals with Chalk ink, and dry brushed some Tattered Rose Distress Paint onto the sides of the tray.

Little Darlings Altered Baby Tray 01This baby’s nursery is done in pink and lilac, so that dictated the color palette. To be true to the Hoarders Pledge (“Keep everything you have, but use everything you keep,”and yes…I just totally made that up!) I pulled out an ancient Spellbinder’s Lace Border Die to use along the top of the tray.

Little Darlings Altered Baby Tray 03I layered the lilac papers from Sweet Sentiments, adding foam tape between layers to add more direction. A large photo of the new family can be mounted here.  .  The sides of the tray were covered in paper and then wrapped with crocheted lace, but I didn’t get a good photo of that, which was very silly of me!

Little Darlings Altered Baby Tray 04The little dress, bloomers, teddy bear and shoes are die cut with dies that I dug out of my crafty stash.  I inked the edges lightly with Tea Dye Distress Ink…and I have to admit…I super love the way these die cuts turned out.

Baby things are so much fun to make and give!  And speaking of giving, I have a little bit of blog candy to give away this month. Blog candyI have a huge stash of 6″ x 6″ papers that I almost never use.  So I thought I would share.  These are assorted collections from Webster’s Pages and they need a new home.  I’ll toss in some other goodies, too…as much as I can fit into the package.

To win, you just need to do one of the following:

  1. Become a follower of my blog if you are not already. You can subscribe by e-mail by using the form in the upper right hand corner of this page.
  2. Like my Facebook page
  3. Favorite my ETSY shop
  4. Follow me on Twitter

You don’t have to do all of the above…but if you do, it will make my day!  I’ll pick a random winner on Monday November 9th and announce it on my Facebook page that day.

Now hop on over and see what KAREN has cooked up for you!

Thanks for hopping by!

April Blog Candy Event: Two Winners!

Well this has been a fun month of giveaways!  I’ve met some new friends, read loads of great comments and learned more about when you craft, what you like to find in a blog post, and how much you all love Heartfelt Creations!  Sadly, this is the very last winner announcement for the month.  So without further ado, here is the random winner of this week’s stamps:

Karen Ladd

Karen, I will contact you via e-mail and get your mailing address so I can send your stamps out to you.  I know you will enjoy them!

Now, for the winner of the $25 gift certificate to Heartfelt Creations.  This drawing was open only to my International Followers.  I put your names into a bag each week, and when I pulled out the lucky winner the name was

Dawn Skene

Dawn commented every single week, and it certainly paid off.  Dawn, I will be contacting you via e-mail with your gift certificate information.

I leave Thursday morning for a few days of R&R with a dear friend.  I have a fun blog post scheduled for Thursday, and I’ll be back on Monday in time for the Crafty Secrets May Linky Party.

And, my blog buddy Karan Gerber still has her giveaway going on her blog, My Heart on Paper.  Karan’s work is incredible, inspiring and gorgeous.  This is week 4 of her 6 week giveaway.  So pop on over to her blog and throw your name in the hat!

Thanks again for joining the fun.  I’m sure I’ll find more goodies as I clean out the Closet of Shame, so stay tuned.

April Blog Candy Event!

April Blog Candy Event!  Heartfelt Creations Retired Stamp Sets Giveaway

This giveaway is now closed.

Hello, Friends!  I hope you are all doing well this morning!  I apologize for sending out 2 posts today, but I think you will forgive me when I tell you that this is the first day of my April Blog Candy Event here on Kathy by Design.  Yup!  Each Monday this month, I will be offering a set of 4 (or 5) Heartfelt Creations retired stamp sets.  These are stamps I have received in my Design Team packages over the past 2 years, and now that they have been retired, I can’t use them in my design work any more.  They are very gently used…some of them only inked up once, and maybe one or two that never saw ink.  They are not in fancy packaging…they are in the re-sealable plastic envelopes that the design team used to get.  So if you love Heartfelt Creations, this is your chance to score some beautiful stamps that you can’t buy any more.  Sa-weet!

Here’s how you can win:

  • Sign up to receive my blog posts, either via Bloglovin or mailed to your inbox.  If you look at the top right hand corner of my blog, you’ll see the forms for that.  I never share e-mail addresses, and I respond personally to each comment left on my blog.  If you would like to follow me on Facebook, you can do that, too!
  • Leave a comment on my blog, along with a way to contact you should you be the lucky winner. Also, please indicate if you live within the US or if you are an International follower. (you’ll see why in a second!) If I can’t contact you, I can’t send you your goodies, right?

That’s it!  Easy Peasy, right?

Two Chances to Win…Be Sure to Read this!

Sadly I cannot afford at this time to ship internationally.  The postage costs are just outrageous!  However!!!!  I am going to choose one international follower at the end of the month and will send them a $25.00 gift certificate to Heartfelt Creations, because I don’t want you to be left out.

AND….my fellow teammate and buddy Karan Gerber is also doing a Heartfelt Creations giveaway on her blog all this month, and she will ship internationally. The rules for her giveaway are the same as mine.  Karan’s blog, My Heart on Paper,  is gorgeous, and you will be so inspired by her beautiful work that you will want to follow her anyway, so you might as well throw your hat in the ring for her Blog Candy, too!

What’s Up For Grabs This week?

I have four stamps from the Burnished Key Collection up for grabs this week:

Blog Candy April 2015 week oneOne lucky winner will receive the following sets:

It’s Raining Love! A Graphic 45 Valentine

026 (2) Just a quick post today.  I wanted to share this fun vintage Valentine I made using Graphic 45’s A Place in Time collection.  I think this might just be my all time favorite collection from them, as there are so many beautiful vintage images inside.  This card was made from the February page.  This umbrella lady is enjoying  a walk in  a shower of hearts.  As soon as I saw it, I thought of the old tune, “It’s Rainin’ Men, Hallelujah” recorded by The Weather Girls.  Remember that one?  Now you’ll be singing it all day.  No need to thank me; it was my pleasure!

020 (2) Here she is in all her glory.  I started with a kraft card base.  Cutting a 5x 6 1/2 inch panel from a rich red paper in a subtle pattern (found in my scrap drawer) I stitched around the perimeter with a kraft colored thread.  I tucked pieces of inked doily along the fold edge and adhered to the base.  I inked up the umbrella lady with versamark and heat embossed the whole image using clear embossing powder. I love treating images this way.  It adds a soft sheen to the papers, and makes them look almost leathery.  This image was mounted on the same red paper used for the background. Then a fancy stitch was sewn all around the perimeter.  I like the way the stitching turned out; it looks scalloped, and that is a very good thing. The edges were then lightly distressed.

Designer Tool Kit #3 from Paper Wishes was used to cut a panel out from a scrap of ABC Primer paper, also from Graphic 45.  Stitching was added, and the edges were lightly distressed.  This was mounted to the card base at an angle using dimensionals.  I then tucked the sweet little February cut out behind this panel after inking the edges.  A little fussy cutting, a free-hand heart adorned with Ruby Slipper Stickles, a little tag, a sweet heart button and this lady was ready for a trip to the post office! The inside was finished by stamping images from the Crafty Secrets “Cherish” set.I used the last little scrap of that red paper to finish off the inside. And of course, I had to line the envelope!

027 (2) 021 (2) 023 (2) 022 (2)Remember, you can click on the images to make them larger.

Don’t forget to leave a comment so you can win my Blog Candy!  You can find the details in this post: http://www.kathybydesign.com/a-valentine-for-sophie-and-blog-candy-alert/.  Today, I’ve added some peacock feathers to the mix.  All together now, Ooooooooo,.

Thanks for taking the time to read my little blog.  Do you have your Valentines all ready to go?  I have one more to share with you tomorrow.  I hope you take some time today to create something beautiful…in the kitchen, in the garden, in the house, in a journal…or in your crafting spot! Thanks for leaving a comment.  They make me happy right down to the tips of my crafty little fingers.

Cheerio,

kathy
