Grateful Paper Bag Envelope Mini Album

Tammy Tutterow Designs Creative Team: Grateful Paper Bag Envelope Mini Album

Hello, Friends!  Fall is a great season to practice the habit of gratitude.  Today I have a really sweet Grateful Paper Bag Envelope Mini Album made with Tammy Tutterow Dies that will help you get your gratitude on!

Grateful Paper Bag Envelope Mini Album by Kathy Clement Product by Tammy Tutterow Designs Photo 1

The inspiration for this Grateful Paper Bag Envelope Mini Album came from Tammy’s Paper Bag Envelope Die.  I paired this up with her Posie Parts Die, Waterfall One, and Tab Set Two Dies.  The papers from Simple Stories are a guilty pleasure.  I spotted them online and knew I had to have them!

This “from scratch” album measures 5.75″ x 3.5″ with a 3″ spine.  I want to live in this pink gingham house, don’t you?  So sweet!  The chipboard house is wreathed with handmade felt posies.  These are such fun to make! I especially enjoy digging through my button jar to find the centers.

This 3″ spine makes for a chunky little album…which I personally love.  I’ve decorated with Champagne Silky Crush Ribbon, Crochet Lace, a handmade button charm, Posie Parts Leaves and a die cut label.  The chunky spine allows you to create dimensional pages inside, which is always fun!

Waterfall features like the one on the inside cover of my book are a snap to make using Tammy’s Waterfall One Die. Each page is cut from designer paper.

Grateful Paper Bag Envelope Mini Album by Kathy Clement Product by Tammy Tutterow Designs Photo 4The cover is decorated with  Tammy’s Pointed Mini Envelope Die.  Just die cut the envelope from designer paper, then fold the flaps, glue in place and you have a darling designer envelope.  This one is paper clipped to the front cover of the waterfall album and flanked with another Posie Part felt flower.

Grateful Paper Bag Envelope Mini Album by Kathy Clement Product by Tammy Tutterow Designs Photo 5You can add 3″ square photos on each album page.

Grateful Paper Bag Envelope Mini Album Pocket Pages

Before I began putting this album together, I first die cut 4 sets of Paper Bag Envelopes from medium weight cream cardstock.

Assembling the paper bag envelopes is as easy as 1, 2, 3.  Just fold, and glue together with the adhesive of your choice.

Once the paper bag envelopes were put together, I used Tammy’s Stencil Girl Stencils  and Distress Ink to add color, pattern and interest to the plain cream envelopes.  This first pocket page pairs the Cross Stitch 2 Step Stencil with Tattered Rose and Worn Lipstick Distress Inks.  I do not consider myself to be adept with stencils, but this was really quick and easy to do.

Next, I die cut some tabs from designer paper to serve as pull-outs for the envelope inserts.  You can write down thankful thoughts, add photos, tuck little mementoes into the pockets…anything you feel thankful for!

Grateful for Tammy’s Stencils!

Grateful Paper Bag Envelope Mini Album by Kathy Clement Product by Tammy Tutterow Designs Photo 9I love the fact that I can create “custom” patterns to match my designer papers and the theme of any project.  Here, I’ve used Fossilized Amber and Wild Honey with the Polka Heart Stencil.

Grateful Paper Bag Envelope Mini Album by Kathy Clement Product by Tammy Tutterow Designs Photo 10This page made with the Petite Posies stencil and Wild Honey/Spiced Marmalade Distress Ink is probably my favorite.  The colors match the little chipboard house perfecty!

Grateful Paper Bag Envelope Mini Album by Kathy Clement Product by Tammy Tutterow Designs Photo 13Bundled Sage and Peeled Paint look fabulous with the Petite Greens Stencil.

Grateful Paper Bag Envelope Mini Album by Kathy Clement Product by Tammy Tutterow Designs Photo 14And because I love gingham so much, it made the cut twice.

Grateful Paper Bag Mini Album: The Photo Mounts

Grateful Paper Bag Envelope Mini Album by Kathy Clement Product by Tammy Tutterow Designs Photo 15The inside back cover has a pocket full of photo mounts.  I used the Paper Bag Pocket insert die to make these in a jiffy.

Grateful Paper Bag Envelope Mini Album by Kathy Clement Product by Tammy Tutterow Designs Photo 16Bound together with a decorative belly band, you can add eight 3.75″ x 2.75″ photos here.

This Grateful Paper Bag Envelope Mini Album is such a fun way to remember to be thankful.  You could make this into a weekly activity with your kids or grandkids, adding photos, quotes and journaling notes to each little pocket.  I always say that thankful people are the happiest people.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Getting Ready for Mother’s Day with Petaloo : Sew Much Love Folio Video Tour with Tips

Hello, Friends!  My head is absolutely refusing to believe that it’s already May!  And you know what that means: Mother’s Day is right around the corner.  I’m getting ready for the “big day” with a little help from Petaloo and Kaisercraft.  I think you’re going to enjoy my Sew Much Love Folio Video Tour.  It’s loaded with vintage goodness!

Making these little folios is completely addictive.  For this 5″ x 7″ folio, I adapted a tutorial that you can find HERE.  It’s the same basic design, but this time I added in a side pocket page.

Friendship is Sewn with Love and Stitched with Kindness: the story behind the project

(Yes…this is a personal story.  Feel free to skip ahead and look at the pretty pictures!)

Since both my precious mom and my mother in law are now residing in Heaven, I use Mother’s Day as a way to reach out to other special women in my life.  This year, I made this vintage style sewing themed folio for a dear friend from high school.

Karen and I shared a lot of common interests despite the fact that she was on the math/science track and I was on the writing/Language/Literature trail.   We were in marching band together, worked on the school newspaper and were co-editors of our high school yearbook.  Karen was precise, logical and methodical.  I was free-spirited, fueled by inspiration and spontaneous. Somehow, that combination worked!

We remained friends after graduation, but then lost track of one another  after marriage.  But thanks to the magic of Facebook, I was able to find her a couple years ago, and our reunion was as sweet and refreshing as our friendship had always been.

About a week ago, I received a surprise package in the mail.  Karen, who is a master quilter (check out her blog HERE and you will see what I am talking about!) made me a quilt!  She remembered how much I love the lilacs back in Vermont during the springtime, so she titled it “Lilacs in the Spring.”  I confess…I got all choked up when I saw this gorgeous quilt.  And that is why Karen is my Mother’s Day gift recipient this year.

It’s hard to capture this very interactive folio with still photos, so I’ve created a short YouTube video tour for you.   I also share some fun tips that you can use in your own crafting adventures.

A Few Details

Sew Much Love Folio Mademoiselle by Kathy Clement Product by Petaloo and Kaisercraft Photo 4

Pockets are fun way to add an interactive element to any project.  For the front of this cover, I created a dimensional pocket and then filled it with a pretty tag and a hand stamped vintage style button card.   (I’ll share links to all the products below.)

Add ribbon, small charms and buttons to the spine for even more fun.

Velvet pansies add wonderful texture to the pages.

Folios and photo mounts are held together with a decorative belly band.

A slit pocket inside a larger pocket is a great place to tuck small tickets and tags.

I tucked little vintage treasures everywhere throughout the folio.

And the Mademoiselle papers from Kaisercraft carry the sewing theme beautifully!

I added a simple waterfall feature for photos.

And managed to sneak in one more little pocket filled with a vintage button card.

Smaller pockets are decorated and filled with tags.

A handmade gift is the very best way I know of to say I love you. So get out your scissors, glue, pretty papers and beautiful Petaloo posies and make something special for mom.

Thanks for stopping by!

Eileen Hull generously donated two sets of the die cut journal components to each member of the Frilly and Funkie team.  The pieces are cut from smooth mat board and are a dream to work with!  If you are familiar with  traditional Midori style travel journals, then you know the covers measure 8.75″ x 4.5″.  Haven’t heard about Midori style journals?  Then you are in for a treat! Search Midori style journals on Pinterest or Google.  But prepare a snack and a beverage, as you will be engaged for a good long time!

My Choose Joy HeARTfelt journal is done in a Junk Journal style.  I’ve mixed and matched all kinds of wonderful products in the three sections.  Since a picture is worth a thousand words, I’ve prepared a YouTube video tour that will do all the talking for me.  I hope you enjoy!

This 3″ x 4″ journal card is a double fold out.  First, tell the story on this journal card, then flip the image open to reveal a two page folio just waiting for photos.

Be YOU Tiful Authentique Fabulous Retro Style Folio Tutorial by Kathy Clement Photo 6Flip the page over, and you’ll find this large pocket filled with sassy retro Journal tags.  I also turned a sticker into a fun, interactive file folder.  To the right of the pocket, there’s a waterfall feature.

All You Need is Love and a Cat Mini Album

Petaloo Pets Week: All You Need is Love and a Cat Mini Album

Hello, Friends!  Are you enjoying Petaloo Pets week?  Yesterday I celebrated dogs with a sweet little shabby chic folio.  Today, it’s all about CATS!  This All You Need is Love and a Cat Mini Album is purr-fectly shabby chic, filled with fun interactive elements and loaded with simple techniques you can use in any crafty endeavor.  Let’s take a look,. shall we?

All You Need is Love and a Cat Mini Album by Kathy Clement of Kathy by Design, Photo 1While straightening up the Closet of Shame, I ran across this nifty mini album base.  Made with heavy book board, the album had plain kraft covers and a handy ring binder mechanism.  I dressed it up with papers from Authentique’s Devoted collection, a canvas spine and lots of shabby chic details.

All You Need is Love and a Cat Mini Album by Kathy Clement of Kathy by Design, Photo 2The focal image is this pretty kitty in an altered Prima frame.  Paints and seed beads add whimsy and texture to the formerly white frame.  The frame is surrounded by gorgeous Petaloo flowers, custom dyed seam binding ribbon, novelty buttons and a second, smaller vintage framed image.

All You Need is Love and a Cat Mini Album by Kathy Clement of Kathy by Design, Photo 3The frame was painted with a cream chalk paint followed by a light coat of Tattered Rose Distress Paint.  Finally, I tapped the raised edges with Vintage Photo Distress paint to make them pop.

Every shabby chic project needs flowers!  For this album, I’ve added Teal Mini Wild Roses, Blue Mini Wild Roses, Teal Forget me Nots, Antique Beige Wild Roses and Ivory Burlap Textured Blossoms from Petaloo, of course!

All You Need is Love and a Cat Mini Album by Kathy Clement of Kathy by Design, Photo 4I didn’t like the plain kraft spine, so I dressed it up with a strip of canvas that I attached with Scor-Tape.  The nubby texture and ivory fabric add to the shabby chic vibe.  This little antique bronze lion charm added just the right touch of whimsy to the spine.

Thinking outside the button box

All You Need is Love and a Cat Mini Album by Kathy Clement of Kathy by Design, Photo 5If you’ve followed my blog for any length of time, you know I have a “thing” for buttons.  This love for buttons started when I was a child and my mom let me string buttons from my grandmother’s button box while I was sick in bed.  In later years, I inherited that button box along with all the beautiful vintage buttons inside it.  Like most collections, it grew…and grew…and grew!  Thankfully, I love to use buttons to embellish my projects.

For this fun button feature, I encircled a “framed” image with pretty buttons.  But do you want to guess how that frame was made?  Yep.  It’s a big button!  I used a paper punch to cut out the sweet vintage image of the girl and her kitty, glued it into the center of the button and then filled the button with Glossy Accents.  That’s how you think outside the button box!

It’s OK to Stagger!

All You Need is Love and a Cat Mini Album by Kathy Clement of Kathy by Design, Photo 6When cutting the pages for this mini album, I decided it would be fun to create pages that were sized and shaped differently.

All You Need is Love and a Cat Mini Album by Kathy Clement of Kathy by Design, Photo 7These staggered edges lend a playful, whimsical feel to the album and invite you to turn pages, open folders and peek inside pockets.

All You Need is Love and a Cat Mini Album YouTube Video

Because I find it hard to really get a feel for the flow of a mini album with still photos, I created this YouTube video tour.  In the tour, I share tips for using scraps, creating custom embellishments and making interactive elements.  I hope you enjoy!

Thank you so much for joining me here today!  If you have any questions about this project, feel free to ask in the comment section below.

All You Need is Love and a Dog Folio

Petaloo Pets Week: All You Need is Love and a Dog Folio

Hello, Friends!  Do you have a furry friend that adds sunshine and joy to your life?  This week at Petaloo we’re celebrating Petaloo Pets with loads of great pet themed projects.  I’ve prepared a couple fun little albums with that in mind.  Today’s All You Need is Love and a Dog folio has a great shabby chic/vintage vibe.  All You Need is Love and a Dog Folio by Kathy Clement Photo 1Don’t you just love that adorable little girl and her Pug?  This 5×7 folio has been made from a card base.  It’s a simple design.  Create a 5×7 card base, and add one extra score line a quarter of an inch from the fold.  This will give you a 1/4″ spine, allowing you to fill the inside with all sorts of fun inserts.

All You Need is Love and a Dog Folio by Kathy Clement Photo 2Authentique Papers made me break my New Year’s Resolution to refrain from buying any new paper pretties when they released their Devoted collection. (She hangs her head in shame.) l fell completely in love with the shabby chic patterns, colors and images.  Yes, friends…it found its way into the Closet of Shame.

All You Need is Love and a Dog Folio by Kathy Clement Photo 3Every Shabby Chic project needs flowers!  To pick up on the antique pinks and blues in the papers, I added Petaloo Spice Anemones, Teal Forgetmenots, and Ivory Burlap Blossoms.   When I’d finished layering all the elements on the cover, I spattered diluted black paint to amp up the vintage vibe.

All You Need is Love and a Dog Folio by Kathy Clement Photo 4Here’s a peek at the inside of the folio.  The top half contains a really fun fold out feature with waterfall, pockets, tags and photo mounts.  The bottom pocket contains several photos mounts bound together with a slide off belly band.

All You Need is Love and a Dog Folio YouTube Video Tour

Because I think it is difficult to get the feel for an interactive folio like this one, I’ve prepared a YouTube video tour.  In it, I show you how the various elements work and I share lots of tips for creating interactive features like the ones in this folio. I hope you enjoy!

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask in the comment section below.  I love to hear from you!
