Tattered Florals Tri-Fold Birthday Card & Gift Box

I can’t seem to get enough of spring images right now.  Every paper I reach for, every ink I choose seems to echo my heart’s longing for spring and flowers and singing birds.  So, when a dear friend asked me to create a special birthday card for someone special, I reached for my Tattered Florals Die, crinoline, and Distress Inks.  I also reached for this sweet bird stamp, which I absolutely love, but have never used.

Creating the Card Base

I started with 2 blank cards which I joined together by gluing the left hand panel of one card onto the right hand panel of the other card.  This will give you a tri-fold card with a very sturdy base.  I then covered the front of the card with my designer paper and  cut a decorative edge.055 (2)

The white dots were added by dipping bubble wrap into white acrylic paint, dabbing off on a piece of scrap paper and then “stamping” onto the designer paper.   You can find a tutorial on how I created the tattered flower HERE.  The bird was stamped and embossed and watercolored.  043 (2)

I layered in torn tag on which I stamped the greeting, a sweet little bird image from Graphic 45’s Place in Time Collection, and another flower. 038 (2)

Tri-Fold Cards are triple the fun!

A tri-fold card is just a step down from being a mini book. Here is the first “page.”052 (2) You have extra space for personal messages or even to add a photo.  A tri-fold card will stand open, on its own for display purposes, too.  049 (2)Click on the photo for a larger image.

A Custom Box for your Tri-Fold Card

The one downside of tri-fold cards is that they rarely fit into a standard envelope.   And, when you add a tattered flower to the front of a tri-fold birthday card, it definitely won’t fit into an envelope!  The solution?  Make a box!

035 (2)  This sweet box was created by cutting two coordinating sheets of heavy cardstock to 8″ x 10 1/2″ .  I then used my Top Score tool to create both the box base and lid.  (The directions come with the tool.)  I decorated the lid with images from Crafty Secrets Heartwarming Vintage Birds and Blooms and May Arts Ribbon.
Placing the tri-fold birthday card in the box turns it into a gift as well as a card.  And the box can be used for keepsakes, or re-gifted!
