Thank Heaven for Little Girls Altered Frame

Sweet Lullaby Frame 02aThank Heaven for Little Girls Altered Frame (Heartfelt Creations Wednesday)

Welcome, friends, to the first Heartfelt Creations Wednesday in June 2014!  Today’s inspiration project is my Thank Heaven for Little Girls altered frame featuring the cuddly-wuddly Sweet Lullaby Collection.  I was out “junkin'” when I found a very sturdy collage frame with a super ugly finish.  I knew immediately that I wanted to “pretty it up” and make an altered frame.  Lots of sanding, painting, and distressing later, and here’s the finished result:

Sweet Lullaby Frame 01aIt’s quite a transformation, wouldn’t you agree?  I have a complete supply list and detailed tutorial below.  In addition to the papers and dies from Heartfelt Creations, I also used loads of 1/4″ brignt pink gingham and iridescent white metallic string from Really Reasonable Ribbon to make my bow.  I also used Chloe Natural Crochet Lace along the front of my frame to give it a real vintage/girly feel. The Bella Rose leaf flourish added just the right touch of greenery beneath my bow.

Sweet Lullaby Frame 05I just love the little booties in the Sweet Lullaby Die set.  It’s hard to tell here, but they are actually embossed as well as die cut.  You can run 1/8″ ribbon through the looped top for a super sweet finish.

Sweet Lullaby Frame 03aUsing the card fronts inside the frame made this very quick to put together.  I also added Stamped Sentiment Circles as embellishments.

Sweet Lullaby Frame 07This might be my favorite element in the whole frame. I painted a vintage drawer pull with antique linen distress paint, rubbed off some of the paint to leave shabby finish, mounted it upside down on the frame and then filled it with these darling Sweet Lullaby flowers and a white filagree butterfly.  To me, it looks for all the world like a fountain filled with posies and I just love it!

This project actually brought back a sweet childhood memory of mine.  I can vividly recall eating my breakfast bowl of Cheerios while the radio played a local talk show.  The host of the show used to allow his daughter to call in every morning and talk to him, and the theme music that played to cue her call was Maurice Chevalier singing, “Zank heavonz, for leetle girlz!”  Now, I have just dated myself, but I don’t care one bit!  I do thank heaven for little girls because our 2 daughters and two granddaughters make me happy right down to the tips of my crafty little fingers!

Gorgeous!!! Simply gorgeous! Great work here, Kathy. I love all the elements. Those corners…are they a die? And if so might I ask which one? I really like them.

Shani, they are filigree white metal corners that I purchased from the Funkie Junkie Boutique online. She has wonderful metal embellishments. Heartfelt does make a lot of corner embellishment dies, but they were all too big for this frame. These were just the right size. I painted them to match the drawer pull. Thanks for the lovely comment!
