Festive Poinsettia Shaker Tea Party in a Box

Heartfelt Creations-Festive Poinsettia-Poinsettia and Holly Clusters-Kathy Clement-Kathy by Design-Photo 02

There’s no place like  home for the holidays, so I’ve dressed up this cozy cottage image with a wreath of sparkling poinsettias and glistening Christmas greenery.  .Here’s how to make this shaker element:

  • First, create the shaker frame.  Layer the two largest Eyelet Circle & Basics Small dies over a sheet of heavy white cardstock.  Die cut according to your machine’s directions.
  • Now tap the scallop circle frame with embossing ink.  Then heat emboss with Shabby White Embossing Enamel.
  • Next,  cut a piece of clear cardstock with the Large Circle Basics Die. If you use the largest die in that set, it provides the perfect sized backer for the scalloped frame. Adhere this circle to the back of the scallop circle frame.
  • Then, place 3 rows of 1/8″ foam strips around the perimeter of the frame.  If you are not using buttons in your shaker element, you can probably just use a single row of the foam strips.
  • Now die cut the house image from a 6×6 card front. Adhere this in the center of another 6×6 card front from the paper collection.
  • Next, add your shaker mix to the center of the house image.  Carefully line up the prepared frame and press gently into place.
Festive Poinsettia Greenery with Poinsettia & Holly Clusters

Now comes the fun part!  Create the greenery and the flowers for your wreath.

  • First, stamp a large quantity of Poinsettia Cluster images on white paper with dark green ink.  (I used Archival Olive Green Ink).
  • Quickly sprinkle the inked flowers with clear embossing powder and heat emboss.
  • Now spray the flower layers with red mist.  I used Tattered Angels Lobster because I had it in my stash.  As an alternative, you could color the petals with ink.
  • Next, shape the petals in the 3D Poinsettia Shaping Mold.
  • Then layer the poinsettias together and fill the center with  Prills or Rock Candy Stamens.
  • Finally, brush the petals with Dries Clear Adhesive and sprinkle with Crystal Clear Glitter.

Die cut the greenery from the Festive Poinsettia Paper Pad. Brush with Dries Clear and sprinkle with Crystal Clear Glitter.  Arrange around the shaker frame to create a wreath effect.  Tuck in some beaded berry sprays, Christmas Plaid Bows and rusty jingle bells to complete the card front.

A Peek Inside

I love to create cards that double as gifts during the holidays.  So I added a little pull-out folio to the top of my card.  Then I created a box pocket and filled with with a Tea Party for one.

To create the folio:

  • First, cut one sheet of Festive Poinsettia paper into (2) 12″ x 5 3/4″ panels of paper.
  • Next, overlap the 5 3/4″ ends of the paper and adhere together.  This forms one long panel.
  • Now score the panel every 5 3/4″.
  • Then accordion fold, and wrap with ribbon.
  • Adhere the folio to the top of your card.
  • Decorate the pages as desired, then tie the ribbon closure to hold everything neatly in place.

Here’s a peek at the treats in the box pocket.  Use scraps of your designer paper to dress them up.

Photoplay Winter Chalet Folio Project Share for Make & Take Tuesday

Hello, Friends!  This sweet Photoplay Winter Chalet Folio is my “Pre-Thanksgiving” Make & Take Tuesday project.  I had just enough time in my schedule (well, not really…but who can resist new paper?) to get this sweet folio put together.  After this, I plan to hang up my crafting apron and put on my pie baking apron.  You won’t hear from me again until Friday’s Heartfelt Creations Alumni Team Blog Hop.

This is a busy week for most of us with houses to dust and menus to plan and trips to the grocery store.  Thanksgiving, after all, is “The Cooking Olympics”.  But I thought you might enjoy grabbing a cuppa with me before the games begin!

Although there is no tutorial this week, I will share a lovely new paper collection and a fun “DIY” Photoplay folio to share with you.  All the online sites are offering Black Friday specials, so I might as well tempt you with some new paper pretties to place in your shopping cart right?

Warm & Cozy Winter Chalet

Right off the bat, the color palette of this collection grabbed my attention.  You just can’t go wrong with blue, green, brown and cream in a winter collection!  Toss in the darling images and delightful patterns of this collection and you’ve got a real winner in my book!

Alter a Prima Resin Frame with Nuvo Toasted Almond Mousse and Metallic Wax to add to the winter vibe.  Surround the shaker frame with sparkling snowflakes, winter florals and  elegant ribbon.  Now you have a folio that  you’ll be happy to display all winter long!

Dangle Charm

Here’s a peek at the sweet little dangle charm on the album spine.  I chose charms that will transfer over from Christmas to winter with no problem.

A Peek Inside

This flap style folio offers lots and lots of room for large photos.  Each of these front flaps opens to reveal some really fun interactive pages beneath.

Look how huge this folio is when it is opened!  There are so many elements to look at that I created a short video tour so you can see them all.  I also share helpful tips as we walk through the project.

Graphic 45 December Time to Flourish Desk Folio Tutorial with Reneabouquets

Hello, Friends!  It’s time to share our December Time to Flourish Desk Folio Tutorial.  Can you believe that we are at the end of this year-long series featuring this gorgeous collection from Graphic 45? Time to Flourish has always been one of my favorites to work with, and the addition of Reneabouquets Beautiful Board and printed Beautiful Board has made it that much more true.

Here’s a look at this month’s folio.  I’m loving the traditional red and green color palette for this month, how about you?  Instead of poinsettias, I chose some deep red Little Birdie Flowers to accent the ribbons and papers. The gold and jeweled centers really amp up the holiday glitz and glam.

Like the previous 11 folios, this one has a hidden pocket folio built into the 6″ x 6″ easel card base. If you are new to this series, you can find MORE folios in the archives.  Or you can watch the video tutorials on my YouTube channel.

Here’s the tutorial for this month’s folio.

It’s a little sad to be at the end of this series, but all good things do come to an end. The good news is that 2023 is right around the corner, and I’m working up some ideas for a new series. If you have any collections or brands that you’d like to see in 2023, please let me know in the comment section below.  I’ll do my very best to incorporate some of  your suggestions in my planning.

UPDATE: There will be no Make & Take Tuesday or Throwback Thursday tutorials next week due to the Thanksgiving holiday.  I have family coming in, a new grandson to enjoy, and a house to clean and pies to bake!

The Heartfelt Creations Alumni Hop is on Friday, so I’ll see you all then!  Until then, I wish you all a blessed, happy, gratitude-filled and delicious Thanksgiving!

Photoplay December Year with My Gnomies Folio Tutorial for Make & Take Tuesday

Hello, Friends!  It’s Make & Take Tuesday, and it’s time to share this festive Photoplay December Year with My Gnomies Folio Tutorial with you.  Something about this folio makes me think “winter carnival” and ice skating and ribbon candy.  What a fun color palette and theme to play with!

Photoplay Paper-Year with My Gnomies-December Folio Tutorial-Reneabouquets-Kathy Clement-Kathy by Design

This is our very last Year with My Gnomies folio!  When we started this series back in January of this year,  it seemed like it would take forever to work our way through all the months.  But, lo and behold, we blinked…and here we are creating the December folio.  And you know what?  Maybe we saved the best folio for last!  Everything about this month’s folio says “Merry and Bright!”  Let’s take a closer look, shall we?

December Folio Details

First, we have to talk about this adorable shaker element on the folio cover.  I’ve used a Reneabouquets Shaker Box to create this little snow globe filled with all kinds of fun shaker elements.  Icy blue buttons and snowflakes circle the rim, and brightly colored jingle bells (they really jingle!) hang from the ribbon cluster.

And just look at our gift-bearing gnome in the bottom corner!  Don’t you just love him?  I’ve surrounded him with another homemade poinsettia, a frosted bottle brush tree, and some Christmas Baker’s Twine.

TIP: Alter a bottle brush tree with Art Institute Dries Clear Glitter Glue and Stampendous Shabby Green Embossing Enamel.  Simply brush the glue on the tree branches.  Then lay  the tree down in a funnel tray or over a piece of clean printer paper.  Sprinkle liberally with the embossing enamel, turning the tree by the base to get all the sides.  Then set it aside to dry.  DO NOT HEAT EMBOSS!

A Peek Inside

We’ve used the same basic format for each folio in this series.  So once again, our folio measures 6″ x 6″ with a 3″ flap page.

Here’s a look at the folio with the flap page open.

There’s no shortage of tags, journal cards and mini folios to tuck inside the pockets of this interactive folio.  It’ s so much fun to make and to give.  Best of all, you can use the basic folio design with any paper collection for any theme.

Yuletide Interactive Christmas Folio

Blue Fern Studios-Yuletide-Christmas Folio-Really Reasonable Ribbon November 2022 Blog Hop-Reneabouquets-Kathy Clement-Kathy by Design- Photo 01

Blue Fern Studios Yuletide Interactive Christmas Folio for the RRR November 2022 Blog Hop

Hello, Friends!  This Yuletide Interactive Christmas Folio is my inspiration project for the Really Reasonable Ribbon November 2022 Blog Hop.  Welcome to the hop!  You should be coming here from Gloria’s lovely blog.

This month we are featuring the elegant Precious Metals Ribbons from the November 2022 Ribbon Club Assortment.  Look how gorgeous they are!

Golden Ribbons

Old Gold Checkerboard Satin makes a great ribbon closure on my 6 3/4″ folio. Checkerboard Satin is one of my favorite ribbon styles because it is so soft and elegant.  The subtle pattern in the ribbon adds texture, which is always nice.  Adhere your ribbon with 1/2″ Scor-Tape for the win!  Christmas Baker’s Twine makes the perfect accent beneath my flowers and on the ends of my metal embellishments, too.

TIP: Decorate the spine of your folio with a dangle charm.  Attach a key ring to the spine with the 3/8″ Gold Satin with a Gold Metallic Edge from the Ribbon Club Assortment.  I love the way the rusty bells jingle when the album is moved.  It adds that “extra special” Christmas feeling.

A Peek Inside

Here’s a peek inside this Victorian styled folio.  There are so many interactive elements that I had to make a video to show them all with you.

I love the way the Old Gold Ribbon and the Gold edged papers work together to create a wonderful vintage vibe.
