Altered Mirror for Really Reasonable Ribbon Challenge #106
Hello, Ribbon Lovers! It’s time for another challenge at Really Reasonable Ribbon. The theme for Challenge #106 is Winter Holidays and Ribbon. What fun! After a couple of false starts, I was inspired to alter a basic IKEA mirror with 2 1/2″ Cotton Blend Holiday Ribbon and gorgeous Vintage Christmas Plaid Ribbon.
This is the MALMA mirror from IKEA, and this is what it looked like out of the package.
I covered it with Christmas Past papers from Graphic 45, and then added my ribbons and embellishments. I think you’ll agree, it’s quite a transformation.
I brushed the ribbon lightly with Vintage Photo Distress Ink and then added it to my paper covered base using Scor-Tape because it is easy to work with and holds on like crazy. I fringed the edges of the ribbon just a little to add to the rustic feel. The Vintage Plaid Christmas ribbon matched the burlap ribbon perfectly, and added great color and design as well.
I kept the color of my embellishments very simple, as I wanted to stay within the kraft, burgundy, green and white color palette. I do love these peppermint candy buttons that I found in my stash, and the white Bead Berry Sprays add such a lovely touch to the ribbons.
I die cut Tim’s fancy flourish from old cereal boxes and then heat embossed it with Shabby White Vintage embossing powder. Adding glittery gold stars and a poufy rosette made from the burlap ribbon filled in the top corner nicely. I had to cover the mirror while photographing it, but ther really is a mirror there, I promise. I think this altered Christmas mirror would make a gorgeous display in my front entry hall with a grouping of white candles and pine boughs, don’t you?
