Authentique Pleasant Autumn Trifold Folio Tutorial
Hello, Friends! Finally, it’s fall! Even here in the Sunny South, the days are a bit cooler and the air is a bit drier. October’s bright blue weather inspired me to create this Authentique Pleasant Autumn Trifold Folio Tutorial for you today.
This is a 5″ x 7″ x 2″ box style trifold folio with solid chipboard covers. I used Authentique Paper’s glorious “Pleasant” collection kit for this project.
Everything I love about Autumn is packed into this collection: Pumpkins, Fall Flowers, Acorns, Apples…it’s just completely delightful in every way! Since I’ve prepared a video tour and step by step tutorial for you, I’ll keep my comments here brief.
Authentique Pleasant Autumn Trifold Folio Tutorial: The Cover
I used a Tim Holtz Ornate Frame Die to feature this gorgeous image from the collection. The frame is cut twice: once with chipboard, then a second time with designer paper to add lots of depth and dimension to the focal image. Messy machine stitching adds a rustic, homespun feel to the design. So does the Brown Center Stitch Burlap Ribbon.
I did not have any fall colored flowers that matched this collection, so I altered some Little Birdie Swiss Mocha flowers with inks and sprays. The end result was these golden roses, which I confess that I love. To alter the metal butterfly, tap it with Antique Bronze, Rusty Hinge and Tumbled Glass Distress Paints.
Authentique Pleasant Autumn Trifold Folio Tutorial: Something Old
I dug into my box of old metal treasures where I found this vintage key hole. My 80+ year old neighbor gave it to me several years ago as a thank you for helping her with some household tasks. Tapped with distress paints, it’s the perfect addition to the side of the folio.
Authentique Pleasant Autumn Trifold Folio Tutorial: A Peek Inside
Because the folio has a magnetic closure, I had to keep the first fold and inside cover very simple in design. Thankfully, the Authentique Pleasant papers are so gorgeous that you don’t need to add much to them. I did manage to add a little flap feature with this fantastic vintage truck image.
Although a folio is not supposed to have pages, I bent the rules a little and added a page unit to each spine. These function as waterfalls, and will hold 4″ x 6″ photos with ease.
You will have to keep the embellishments in this album on the “flat” side, or you will not be able to close the cover. Fussy cut images from the cut apart pages work perfectly for this job.
Authentique Pleasant Autumn Trifold Folio Tutorial: Interactive Features
You all know how much I love to add interactive elements to my creations. This folio is loaded! you’ll find sweet side pockets with inserts like this one.
And you will learn how to use your scraps to create the inserts in the video tutorial, too.
And of course, there are flaps….
…that pull out from behind the page and function as mini folios. Oh, look…there’s another pocket! What a surprise!
You’ll have to watch the video to see what is inside this mini folio…and I’ll show you how to make it and the flap insert, too.
Authentique Pleasant Autumn Trifold Folio Tutorial: The Video
I hope you’ll enjoy the video tour with tips and ideas. Then hang around for the step by step tutorial where we’ll build the base from scratch, add the page units, pockets and all the fun interactive elements. The video runs a little over half an hour (there’s a lot of ground to cover) so grab a snack, a cuppa and a notebook before you hit play.
I hope I’ve shared some tips, tricks and ideas today that you can use in your own crafty adventures. If so, I’d love to hear from you in the comment section below. And if you’d like to purchase this Authentique Pleasant Autumn Trifold Folio, you’ll find it in my ETSY shop!
Thanks for stopping by!
Cheerio,
kathy

The feeling of fall really comes through on this one Kathy. Love the autumn colours and the papers. It is Thanksgiving weekend here in Victoria and it was nice to have my morning coffee while reading and watching your post.
Thank you for all your hard work 🙂

Wow, Kathy! Another wonderful album filled to the brim with beautiful colors and images, flaps, tucks, folios, pages, and pockets! What gorgeous papers! You have showcased them beautifully, as usual. So I watched the walk through and will look at your tutorial at another time. It’s always a great time going through your projects with you describing the details. My favorite detail? The stitching! Wonderful touch! Of course, I checked your Etsy shop, because I thought this might be a nice place to put some photos of a trip my sister took my Mom on a couple of years back. Sadly, it’s gone already! Sending hugs!
Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!

Kathy, What a BEAUTIFUL fall folio!! I especially like your choice of color for the flowers and the butterfly.
Your way of teaching (explaining & showing each step) is very appreciated and I hope to try this format for a folio soon.
Thank you for sharing!!
Kathy, as I was getting my coffee and getting ready to turn on my computer I thought “I hope Kathy was able to upload a new project” LOL And oh my! Is it ever a beauty! That Authentique paper is just divine for the Fall. And of course you have used it so beautifully. The way you match the different designs….they always work so perfectly.
