How to Build a Shaker Box using Eileen Hull’s Frame Die

This 5 1/4″ x 7 1/4″ top fold card celebrates the beauty of the outdoors in style!  Here’s how I put the shaker box together using Eileen’s die:

  • First, die cut the Mailable Frame Die from Rustic Seven.
  • Next, carefully cut the “v” shaped flap away from the base.  Set this aside to use in some other project.
  • Now, cut along the scored crease line in the die to create two separate pieces: a plaid window piece, and a collaged piece.
  • Next, stitch burlap ribbon around the perimeter of the window, if desired.
  • Then, cut a piece of clear acrylic cardstock the same size as the window piece and glue to the BACK side of the plaid paper.
  • Now create an elevation for your shaker card using foam tape, or sections of waste chipboard.  I used 3 layers of 1/4″ wide matboard glued together to create my elevation. If you use foam tape, you will want to use at least 2 layers to give the shaker elements room to move around.
  • When the elevation is adhered to the back side of the plaid paper, fill it with your shaker elements.
  • If using foam tape, remove the liner and adhere the word collage panel to the back of the shaker box.  If using waste chipboard, you will need to place adhesive on the edges of the word collage paper before adhering.
  • Finally, hot glue wooden buttons in the corners of the shaker box where the burlap intersects.
  • Then adhere the shaker box to the bottom card layers.

Fab masculine card folio, Kathy. I like that folded piece that becomes a flip open as well as a pocket. I’m also thinking that for women who love nature, some greens, blues and yellows added to the mix would be just the thing to change it up a bit. tfs and Happy Memorial Holiday.

Kathy, I love the “rusticness” of this card and that burlap ribbon around the shaker frame with the corner buttons is awesome! The John Muir quite is so very appropriate. My hubby and I are avid hikers and it really spoke to me. In fact all of the sentiments are so beautiful. Thank you for the wonderful tutorial! Hugs!
