BMW Hawaii…and what I’ve been up to lately

Hello, Friends!

I’m just popping in quickly today to share photos from the big BMW Hawaii project I worked on earlier this fall.  The event was held on the Big Island of Hawaii in a beautiful outdoor amphitheater.  (No…I don’t get to go….just my finished menu cards!)  I was given a small swatch of the tablecloth fabric and asked to create about 120 custom souvenir menus for the event.  I don’t know about you, but when I think of an outdoor event in Hawaii, I think beach. These events are totally gorgeous, so it had to be sophisticated beach, glam beach…not bikinis and sunglasses and flip flops beach.  Here’s what I came up with:

BMW Hawaii Amphitheater Sept 2014I created a 6″ x 8″ pocket with an embossed nautilus design, beautiful sheer, iridescent copper ribbon and pearls, of course.  The blank card on the front was imprinted with the name of each guest, so the menu card was also the place card.

BMW Hawaii Amphitheater Sept 201402The menu was also embossed and pulled out from the top of the envelope.

BMW Hawaii Amphitheater Sept 201403The food at these events always sounds amazing, and I get hungry when I am making all these menus!

BMW Hawaii Sept 2014Here’s a photo of the menu card on the table at the actual event.  It is always exciting for me to see these on the table in the actual venue, and the event planner I work with is always kind enough to have a photo taken for me.

BMW Hawaii Sept 201402The tablecloth and setting was exquisite.  Such an honor to be chosen to create these special souvenir menu cards.

Earlier this month, I participated in the annual Visions of Sugarplums Holiday Gift and Art Show in North Raleigh.  I’ve been part of this wonderful holiday boutique for the past several years, and always enjoy catching up with all the other local artists.  This show is unique…in its 40th year…and all the artists are local and everything is hand made. Here’s a peek at my booth before the show started.

Visions of Sugarplums 2014 03These are all my own display pieces.  And everything you see in this photo was hand made by me.  and yes, it took me all year to make!  LOL

Visions of Sugarplums 2014 01The set up for the show was on Tuesday night.  The preview show was Wednesday night from 6-8PM. We were open all day and evening Thursday and Friday and Saturday until 3PM.  It’s a long week….but lots of fun, too.

Visions of Sugarplums 2014 02I made lots of beach themed goodies for the show.

Visions of Sugarplums 2014 04And lots of altered art items, too.  I sold a LOT, and am thinking about putting what I have left in an ETSY shop.  Which brings me to a very important question: would you be interested in an ETSY shop from Kathy by Design?  You would have the ability to purchase most of the projects I post here.  It’s just something I’m turning around in my brain, and I’d love to have your input on the idea.  I could also take custom orders there…..you know me…I’m always thinking!

Thanks for letting me share what I’ve been up to.  Between BMW Hawaii and Visions of Sugarplums and my regular design team work, I have been keeping busy…and out of trouble…which is always a good thing!  I look forward to hearing from you in the comment section below.

Thanks for stopping by!

Cheerio,

kathy

I am in AWE of those freaking beautiful BMW menus! Seriously, I had an idea in my head after talking to you about them but what you created was simply stunning and the photo of the table set with them looked so classy. No amount of decor they could have ordered could compare to how nice it was for the attendees to be able to take those keepsake menus home. You totally made their event way more special! Your craft sale looked really great as well and I think you should try Etsy and if it gets crazy you can always put your store on temporary hold as many people take breaks. The hardest part I found was getting your stuff seen as there is soooo much but you have a following so that would be a big help at the beginning.

Where do you find the time to make all these beauties??

I fully agree with everyone. Your work is nothing short of amazing Kathy! Between your work for BMW, your DT work and all of the projects you make for your display you are one BUSY girl. I think you would do so well with an etsy store. I recently took some of my work to a local consignment store and I’m hoping that will prove to be a good venue. Sending you hugs!

Ohhh KATHY!!! How completely stunning the menu’s were, and how incredible they looked on the table. I’m not in the least bit surprised that they chose your design for their function. I bet they couldn’t believe their luck when they found you!

Well done, you amazing artist that you are, and many congratulations on such a ‘feather in your cap’!
    Sending hugs ~ Cobs. x

Oh, Kathy – Your cards are so beautiful! The shell on the front is just gorgeous! It was through a mention of your card work on BMW that I first encountered you and I’m so glad I did! Of course you know I love all your work and your show pieces look just darling in the set-up! I’m glad to sold so much…I know you had to put a tremendous amount of work into creating, setting-up, and being at the show. And, YES!, your ought to have an Etsy shop!!! I know your items will sell because I’ll be buying some of them! Love to you

I hope your heart sang, Kathy, seeing that banquet round set with your beautiful cards! As for Etsy, I’d say go for it and tell yourself it’s on a trial basis – be aware how much active marketing it takes.
