Bookcase Style Halloween Mini Album

BOO-tiful Bookcase Style Halloween Mini Album for Crafty Secrets

Hello, Friends!  I have a SPOOK-tacular project to share with you today.  My little sis knows how much I love to alter boxes, so gave me a fabulous perfume gift box with a magnetic flap. Since we have our house on the market, I’ve been cleaning, organizing and purging…and guess what I found in the Closet of Shame?  Yep!  The little black box to end all little black boxes!  It was one of those magic moments….my hand touched the box and “whoosh” the idea for this BOO-tiful Bookcase Style Halloween Mini Album took shape in my brain.

Kathy by Design BOO-tiful Bookcase Style Halloween Mini AlbumAbracadabra!  Poof!  You’re a mini album!  This was such a fun project, and I managed to make it in just one day thanks to some frightfully fabulous Halloween Goodies from Crafty Secrets.  I used Halloween papers, images and ephemera from the Jumbo Halloween Digital Kit , the newly released Digital Vintage Halloween Scraps, and lots of bits and pieces from the Halloween Images and Journal Notes Booklet to pull this Boo-tiful Bookcase Style Halloween Mini together.

Boo-tiful Bookcase Style Halloween Mini AlbumThe box measures a generous 5.25″ x 8.5″  with a 1.75″ spine.  I chose this gorgeous purple and black diamond paper from the CD as my base, then added some green bats for a pop of color.  I have to say, I’m loving all the purple/green Halloween papers this year.  What do you think?

Boo-tiful Bookcase Style Halloween Mini AlbumI love the little Halloween banner on the Halloween Vintage Scraps, and I cut them out here and added them to the magnetic flap of the album.  From this angle, you can also see that I added Diamond Stickles to the rather fashionable Halloween Ghoul on the cover.  This image also came on the Vintage Scraps.  I just die cut it with a Spellbinder’s die.  You can also see the shine on the medicine bottle.  That is one of the ephemera bits from the Jumbo Halloween Download.  It was tapped with Versamark and heat embossed with UTEE to give it a real glassy appearance.

Crafty Secrets Purple and Green Halloween Album04Here’s a close up so you can see all the details: Prima Lace, Petaloo Flowers, My Mind’s Eye brads, and  a Prima Mechanicals Pocket watch make this cover SPOOK-tacular!

Crafty Secrets Purple and Green Halloween Album05Of course, I had to add some pretty ribbon.  I’m loving this Plum Diamond Satin Ribbon paired up with Gold Metallic String.  How about you?

Crafty Secrets Purple and Green Halloween Album06And here’s a closer look at the pocket watch.  I used a circle die to cut the image from the Halloween Digital Scraps, then added this cute haunted house charm that I painted with Picket Fence Distress Paint. I held the charm in place with Glossy Accents and a pair of Prima watch hands.  All the edges of everything were inked with Hickory Smoke Distress Ink.

Crafty Secrets Purple and Green Halloween Album07The box opens to reveal a flat surface on the left and a box on the right.  I decorated the left hand side with some fun die cuts, a postcard (Vintage Halloween Scraps) and some images I fussy cut from the Halloween Talk paper found in the download.

Crafty Secrets Purple and Green Halloween Album08The accordion album was made by trimming two sheets of 8.5″ x 11″ kraft paper to measure 11″ x 6.75″.  I overlapped the two sheets slightly on the short side, gluing them together.  Then I scored every 4″ on the long side to make the accordion album.

Crafty Secrets Purple and Green Halloween Album09The BINGO cards from the Halloween kit served as the base for many of my photo mounts.  I left either the top edge, or the side open so that I could tuck in tags.  I also fussy cut a lot of little images from the paper, Vintage Scraps or Journal Booklet to decorate the album.  It would be such a great way to capture memories from a Halloween party and then store on your bookshelf.  That’s one of the things I love about this bookcase design.  It really looks neat and crisp when all closed up.

Crafty Secrets Purple and Green Halloween Album02Building an album from a box base saves tons of time.  I love that I was able to upcycle an item that would normally have landed in the landfill.  Now this BOO-tiful Bookcase Style Mini Album has been given a whole new purpose in life.  I just love that!

If you’re interested in purchasing this album, you can find it in my ETSY shop.

Hi Kathy the link took me to your Stay shop, spooky things going on maybe!!!!. I love your upcycled box. So much going on and in your usual style lots of layers and intriguing things popping up everywhere. The purple, greens and gold colours are really opulent, love the flowers too. Hope the cleaning is going well, and today we have seen glorious sunshine for most of the day. That’s the UK for you, 4 seasons in a day. X

This little album is grrreat! Love the details, as usual. I do enjoy Halloween. I love seeing what the kids are wearing, and even some of the parents too.
