Bunny Open House Shaker Card Tutorial for Make & Take Tuesday
Hello, Friends! For today’s Make & Take Tuesday I have this adorable Bunny Open House Shaker Tutorial for you. I know it’s still winter, but I’m already tired of it. So I’ve decided it’s time to pull out the spring papers, colors, flowers and ribbons! The groundhog may have said 6 more weeks of winter, but it’s springtime here in the studio!
These adorable bunnies are decorating for spring with a floral wreath, colorful banner and pretty posies. It’s hard not to smile at these cute Open House Spring Dies from Spellbinders. They are a seasonal add-on for the Open Door House Base Die, which I do not have. But I did have a chipboard Palladian window in my stash, which worked great!
Springy paper was a must for this creation, so I turned to Stamperia Celebrations paper pad. The color palette and playful vibe were perfect for this project. Here are the basics for putting this card together:
- First, dry brush the chipboard window with ivory chalk paint. Let some of the chipboard base peek through to create a weathered wood look.
- Next, spatter the window with pink chalk paint. Heat dry.
- Now, back with a piece of clear cardstock and 3 layers of 1/8″ foam strips to form a shaker window.
- Then score an 11″ x 8 1/2″ piece of cardstock at 4″, 4 1/4″, 8 1/4″ and 8 1/2″ to form the tri-fold card base with 1/4″ spines.
- Cut light grey cardstock just a hair below 3 7/8″ x 8 3/8″.
- Then cut patterned paper just a hair below 3 5/8″ x 8 1/8″.
- Cut grey cardstock for the short flap panel at 2 3/8″ x 8 3/8″
- Then cut patterned paper at 2 1/8″ x 8 1/8″.
- Place your shaker mix on the top half of the card and press the shaker frame over it.
Making the Wreath
Die cut the wreath 3 times: once from heavy cardstock, then twice from patterned paper. Place small foam between the wreath layers. Stagger the leaves to hide the foam squares. This makes a nice, full wreath. Die cut the bitty flowers from pink patterned paper. Adhere to the card base and place a Spellbinders Creative Essentials Gem in the center of each one.
Die cut the bunny bodies from heavy cardstock and patterned paper.
TIP: Create bunny bow ties with the “stem” of the balloon die. Then place a gem in the middle.
The Posies and the Welcome Mat
Now we get to make the posies and the welcome mat. Die cut a nice pile of double and single posy leaves. The centers of the posy glue over one another. To make this easier, I used the circle from the top of the balloon die as a base. First I placed a dot of glue right in the center of the circle. Then I started adding the petal layers one at a time. Stagger the petals to create a pretty, full flower. Then adhere the flower center.
A Peek Inside
Dress up the inside of the card with pretty papers, fussy cuts, and a pocket.
There’s room to add a tea bag and honey stick in the pocket. And you can write your own greeting on the sentiment panel.
