Hello, Friends!  Happy New Year!  I have a feeling that 2019 is going to be a fabulous year.  Over the holiday break, I decided to create a Graphic 45 Children’s Hour Stack of Cards.  Now I’m ready for whatever occasion presents itself in 2019.

Here are a few tips and simple supplies that you will need in case you decide to dip into your stash and create your own Children’s Hour Stack of Cards.

Children’s Hour Stack of Cards TIPS
  • Follow a basic recipe for each card to speed up production.
  • Create your stack of 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ card bases before you begin making the cards.
  • Tie a dozen simple bows from ivory seam binding ribbon before you begin.  It goes with everything!
  • Doilies provide quick and easy layers!  Use packaged doilies or die cut them yourself from scraps of white paper.And remember, you can cut a doily in half when tucking it behind an image to make it go double the distance!
  • Cut 4″ x 5 1/4″ base layers from the Patterns and Solids or Calendar Pad

The interior of each card follows the same format.  I left a blank area for writing a greeting so the card can be used for birthdays or get well, or any occasion.

These would be cute set out as a home decor for each month of the year, too.

Each card measures 5″ x 5″ and has in inside pocket for treats, cash or gift cards.  Made with my number one all time favorite G45 Place in Time Collection, these sweet cards are super quick and easy to make, use a limited amount of materials, and are quite affordable to make. You can make all four of these fabulous cards for about $15.

To make the cards, cut out the images, tags, borders and post card from one Place in time October Sheet.  Then cut up the patterned side of the other sheet.  I show you how to do this in the video tutorial.  You’ll also need 2 sheets of 12×12 Patterns and Solids to complement the Place in time papers.  I used Master Detective, but you could use whatever you have in your On hand.  The whole idea here is to dig into your unused stash and put it to good use.

I bought these  Jolee’s Boutique Ravens and Words stickers a couple of years ago at a 50% off sale at JoAnn’s.  The stickers have been retired, but I managed to find some online HERE.  However, the cards are super cute even without the stickers.  I just had them in my stash, and decided to use them up.

We’ll build these easy layers together in the video tutorial.  These are great basic card “recipes” that you’ll be able to adapt and use with any of the Place in Time papers.

TIP: Die cut doilies from scrap cardstock to save money.  I have several doily dies in various sizes, and I use them all the time.

Two of the cards are top fold, and two are side fold, just to keep things interesting.  You use the same base for both types of cards, which makes life easy!

Hello G45’ers!  You all know that I love to create elaborate layered cards.  But what you might NOT know is that I also create loads of very simple, quick to make cards.  These get tucked into my Etsy shop orders as a way to thank my customers for their business.  I also like to create card sets as birthday/Christmas gifts for friends and family. One of my friends had a birthday last week.  It just so happens that the monthly challenge at Graphic 45 is  #SimplyG45 .  So the

project I have to share with you today is a #SimplyG45 Time to Flourish Gift Card Set.

This is a set of four 4.25″ x 5.5″ all occasion cards made with ONE sheet of Graphic 45’s gorgeous Time to Flourish Collection. (retired)   I tied them together with seam binding ribbon for a pretty (and simple) presentation.

What is #SimplyG45?

A #SimplyG45  project is supposed to cost less than $10 for all supplies.  It’s supposed to be easy to make, and be made in an hour or less.  And yes, I did manage to make a set of 4 lovely cards for under $10.  The final tally for all my supplies was a meager $9.41.  I did manage to make all 4 cards in an hour…but let me tell you…that second hand had me sweating!  LOL  Let’s take a look at how this sweet and simply #SimplyG45 Time to Flourish Gift Card Set.

To make this card set you will need:

  • 1 sheet of Time to Flourish August Cut Apart Paper
  • Time to Flourish Cardstock Flower Sheet
  • 4 sheets of Time to Flourish 6×6 Patterns and solids
  • 2 sheets of 8.5″ x 11″ ivory cardstock
  • 1/2 sheet each of yellow and soft blue 8.5″ x 11 Cardstock
  • some buttons
  • 2 yards of seam binding ribbon
  • Water Soluble ink to dye your ribbon (Optional…and I did not include this in the price of the project as ink is a staple that we all have on hand.  I also did not figure in the cost of my adhesive.)

TIP:  To make quick work of cardmaking, use an assembly line approach.  Keep most of your measurements consistent for all 4 cards.  Keep the embellishments simple and similar to one another for ease of assembly.  Here are the simple steps I followed to create these cards.

  • First, create cut two sheets of 8.5″ x 11″ cardstock in half.  I chose to cut my cardstock to measure 4.25″ x 11.  Then I scored it in half at 5.5″.  This gave me two top fold vertical cards and two side fold horizontal cards.  Lay each folded card base on your work surface.
  • Next, cut a sheet of yellow and a sheet of light blue cardstock in half.  Save the other halves for another day.  Trim cardstock to measure 4″ x 5.25″.  Lay one piece on top of each card base.
  • Now, select 4 sheets from the 6″ x 6″ Time to Flourish Patterns and Solids pad.  Cut each piece to measure 3 7/8″ x 5 1/8″.  Lay each piece on one of your card piles. Save the extra pieces to use as layering elements.
  • Then, cut the August Time to Flourish page apart.  Choose focal images and lay on each pile.
#SimplyG45 Time To Flourish Gift Card Set: Quick and Easy Flower Making

I love to make my own flowers…but it can take a LOT of time.  Using the Graphic 45 cardstock flowers is a very affordable way to add a lovely, custom embellishment to a project.  Here’s how I made these flowers.

  • Punch out 3 blue flower layers and about 7 yellow flowers from the cardstock sheet.  (For the yellow flowers, I opted to use the back side of the cardstock flowers.)
  • Lightly brush the edges of the petals with ink.  I used G45 Dark Cashmere Decades ColorBox Ink, but any water soluble ink will do.
  • Next, you need to shape your flowers.

TIP: Keep it simple!  I rolled my petal edges around the barrel of a pencil.  Then I used my worked my thumbs around the center of each flower layer to cup it.  This takes less than a minute for each flower.

  • When all the flower layers are shaped, stack them together using hot glue or wet glue to adhere.  Add a simple button to the center of each flower.

In Kathy World, no card is complete without ribbon.  To keep the cost down, I custom dyed white seam binding ribbon with my inks.  Then I tied all four bows at the same time.  To add more texture, I also tied 4 burlap string bows.

This card used one of the blue mats and a green micro dot paper from the 6×6 pad.

For this card, I turned my card base on its side to create a side fold horizontal card.

Use the scraps and leftover cut aparts to simply decorate the inside of each card.  Make a quick and easy pocket and tuck in a tea bag or other small treat.  To make the pocket, punch a half moon shape with a circle punch.  Then adhere 3 sides of a leftover piece of the Patterns and solids paper.  This is a gift that anyone would love to receive!

CAS Travel Girl Birthday Card

Hello, Friends!  Don’t faint!  Today’s card is a CAS Travel Girl Birthday card that I made for our daughter. Clean and simple (CAS) cards are my Waterloo.  I have such a hard time restraining myself from loading a card up with all kinds of layers and embellies.  But since I believe a card’s style should reflect the preferences of the one receiving it, every once in a while, I have to pull one out of my hat.

Our adventure loving daughter really is a travel girl.  She loves to see, do and explore. This retired paper collection from October afternoon was “just the ticket” for her birthday celebration.  (See what I did there?  Bad pun…sorry!)

Our daughter is also a “no frills” kind of gal.  She likes clean design and despises clutter.  So I kept this card pretty clean and simple.  The card did not quite look finished to me until I added this double layer bow made with Topaz Delicate Stitched Satin and Metal Gray Satin Swiss Mini Dot ribbons.  The little binder clip, vintage style button and passport charm were the perfect finishing elements.

Beautiful Mother’s Day Wishes Easel Card

Beautiful Mother’s Day Wishes Easel Card with RRR and Graphic 45 Cafe Parisian

Hello, Ribbon Lovers!  I’m popping in today with a beautiful Mother’s Day Wishes  easel card that you can make in under an hour.  Nothing says “I love you” like a handmade card, especially when it is topped with beautiful Really Reasonable Ribbon.

Beautiful Mother's Day Wishes Easel Card Cafe Parisian by Kathy Clement for Really Reasonable Ribbon Product by Graphic 45 Photo 2I put this sweet 4.25″ square easel card together with bits and pieces that were left over from another project.  The focal image from G45 A Place in Time is a near perfect color match for the background papers from G45 Cafe Parisian.

I die cut a Cheery Lynn doily from Ivory cardstock to help break up the patterned layers.

After building my easel card base, I fussy cut the vintage ladies from the focal image.  Then I backed them with waste chipboard and layered them over the image background.  This created wonderful depth and dimension with very little fuss.

The “stopper” is easy to make.  First, cut a panel of the blue dot paper from Place in Time.  Mat it on a slightly smaller piece of chipboard.  Wrap with Wild Rose Swiss Dots Grograin Ribbon and glue to the card base.  Then use your Zutter Bow-it-All Tool to tie a double loop bow and hot glue it in place.    Add a string bow tied with Ivory Natural Burlap and glue to the center of the bow. Top with a button,

Tie a second bow with Burlap String and glue to the left hand corner of the image.  Add flowers. Then glue 3 little buttons down the side of the card.

It takes under an hour to make Mom a keepsake card that she’ll cherish for years to come. And, you used up some paper scraps in the process.  Win/win!
