Authentique “Fabulous” Collection: Life is a Bowl Full of Cherries Card

Life is a Bowl Full of Cherries Card : Authentique “Fabulous” for Mom

Hello, Friends!  It’s time for a brand new challenge over at Really Reasonable Ribbon.  And since it is almost Mother’s Day, that’s the challenge theme.  I decided to create something a little on the lighthearted and whimsical side as my mom was blessed with an amazing sense of humor.  I can remember hearing her sing Life is  Bowl Full of Cherries any time she was tackling an unsavory task (and boy,, do moms ever deal with more than their fair share of those!).  So I dug into my gorgeous ribbons and my “Fabulous” collection from Authentique to make this Life is a Bowl Full of Cherries Card.

Rockin’ the Retro Vibe

Don’t you just love these retro colors and patterns?   This combination of pink, red and aqua takes me right back to my childhood.  It’s impossible to be gloomy when you are looking at white polka dots on a red background!

Here’s a good design tip for you.  To add extra “punch” to a card design, repeat a pattern.  On this card, I used white polka dots on red in both my paper layer and in my ribbon cluster.  Red Satin Swiss Dots ribbon is soft and supple, so it ties gorgeous bows.  If you haven’t added it to your ribbon stash yet, you really should!

Next, I scattered these cute cherry novelty buttons onto the card in strategic locations.  Then, I finished my bow cluster off with a bit of Ivory Burlap String and a bright aqua flower.

Just Add Pockets!

It’s easy to turn a card into a gift: just add pockets!  I created a small chocolate pocket with a scrap of that fun polka dot paper…because Mom loves chocolate, don’t you know.  Tuck in a gift card, and your gift is complete!

I stamped a sentiment onto ivory cardstock and added it to the larger pocket.  Then I tucked in a pretty pink tea bag.  Next,  I created a little tag that can double as a bookmark.

You’ll find more of this fabulous ribbon atop the tag, along with a sweet little handmade paper clip embellishment.  Tie the ribbon with an ivory burlap string bow, add a sassy high heel charm and this Life is a Bowl Full of Cherries Card is done!

Authentique Fabulous Retro Style Folio Tutorial

Be YOU tiful Authentique Fabulous Retro Style Folio Tutorial

Hello, Friends!  I’m so excited about today’s blog post.  I’ve been a fan of Authentique paper for some time now, and guess what?  I’ve been asked to share a few guest designer posts on the Authentique blog over the course of the next few months.  Woo-hoo!  To get the ball rolling, I’ve created this Be YOU tiful Authentique Fabulous Retro Style Folio Tutorial to share with you today.  If retro colors, prints and images are your “thing”, I think you’re really gonna love this one!

What do you get when you combine hot pink, black, aqua, cream and red?  Fabulous, that’s what!  This collection is so well named because every single element is truly fabulous.

This 3″ x 4″ journal card is a double fold out.  First, tell the story on this journal card, then flip the image open to reveal a two page folio just waiting for photos.

But Wait, There’s More!

Authentique “Fabulous” Retro Style Birthday Card

Authentique Fabulous Retro Style Birthday Card for RRR

Hello, Ribbon Lovers!  March is nearly over!  How did that happen so fast?  I have one last Really Reasonable Ribbon March Ribbon Club project to share with you.  My sweet sister in law had a birthday this month, and I made this retro style birthday card especially for her.  Becky is one of my favorite people in the whole world.  She has the greatest laugh, tells the best stories, and throws the best parties ever!  So I went “all out” on this fun “If the Crown Fits, Wear It!” card.

Ivory Burlap string makes the greatest loopy bows and I just can’t seem to stop using it!

Authentique Fabulous Retro Style Birthday Card by Kathy Clement for Really Reasonable Ribbon Photo 2This is one of my famous “chunky” cards.  In fact, it was so chunky, I had to devise a magnetic closure to keep it shut!  To dress up the closure, I added some cute wood icons.  Becky and I share a private joke about coffee and doughnuts.

A Peek Inside this retro style birthday card

Authentique Fabulous Retro Style Birthday Card by Kathy Clement for Really Reasonable Ribbon Photo 4Do you ever get lost in the details when you are creating?  Yeah, that happens to me all the time.  But I’m kind of glad I followed the muse this time, because I super love these little tags tied onto the tiny clothes hanger.  Are they cute or what?

Authentique Fabulous Retro Style Birthday Card by Kathy Clement for Really Reasonable Ribbon Photo 5For the large pocket, I stamped a series of birthday wishes onto primitive white cardstock.  Then I added a little doodle art to the edges and text.  Next I matted the wishes on pretty teal cardstock.

Remember poodle skirts?  This cute little 3×4 journal tag is matted and backed with magnetic paper so that Becky can display it on her fridge. And there has to be chocolate in the pocket of this retro style birthday card or it wouldn’t be from me!

This was such a fun card to make, and Becky loved receiving it in the mail.  There is just nothing as personal as receiving a hand made card in the mail on your birthday.  I even managed to get it there on time!

Thanks for stopping by!

Remember You Are Fabulous Card

RRR Red and/or Pink Challenge: Remember You Are Fabulous Card with Authentique Fabulous Collection

Hello, Ribbon Lovers!  It’s time for another fun challenge over on the Really Reasonable Ribbon Blog.  With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, Bonnie says it’s time to break out some RED and/or PINK.  I spent a happy afternoon with the January Ribbon Club Assortment and Authentique’s Fabulous Collection. The result is this fun retro style Remember You Are Fabulous Card.

Pink and/or Red: Why Choose?

I have to tell you, peeps…the ribbons in the January Ribbon Club assortment are FABULOUS!  There are so many great little prints, and so many wonderful textures.  As you can see, I had fun using them!  Red Chevron Striped Grosgrain Ribbon borders add texture, color and pattern to my design. And how much do I love the Random Hearts and Confetti Dots Grosgrain Ribbon?  Lots and lots, that’s how much!  Red Satin with a Grosgrain Edge lends wonderful shimmer and shine to my double loop bow.  These ribbons just play perfectly with the pink, red and aqua color palette of this fun paper collection.

The Party’s on the Inside

I scored this 5″ x 7″ top fold card with a 1/4″ spine so that I could load up the inside with all sorts of fun goodies.

The pocket on top holds a little sweet treat and a fun place to write a Valentine greeting.  The lower pocket holds a hand stamped bookmark and a fun fridge magnet.  I used the random hearts and confetti grosgrain ribbon to top the bookmark.  The whole project is a great big celebration of pink and red!

Now it’s YOUR turn!  Link up your own Pink and/or Red masterpiece on the RRR BLOG. You’ll find all the details HERE.  Be sure to visit the projects from the rest of the team for more inspiration.  I can’t wait to see what you make!

Remember you are fabulous!
