Authentique Felicity Zig Zag Folio Tutorial

Authentique Felicity Zig Zag Folio Tutorial

Hello, Friends!  Are you having a great summer?  It’s been super busy here in Kathy World.  But I did manage to steal a play day last week.  I’ve had this idea for a new folio design rolling around in my head.  It just would not leave me alone, so I had to get it made.  This Authentique Zig Zag Folio Tutorial is the fruit of my playtime.  Filled with gorgeous summer colors and images, it also has a really cool sloped edge design.

This 4″ x 7″ folio has a cardstock base that is made with a few simple folds.  It looks more complicated to make than it is.  I think once you make one of these, you’ll want to make bunches of them in different themes.  One cool feature is that you can actually open it out and stand it up for display.  Wouldn’t that be fun done in a Christmas theme?

The belly band closure is decorated with Really Reasonable Ribbon , Little Birdie Flowers, some Prima Embellies and a novelty button from my stash.  I stitched designer paper to cardstock to form the belly band.  Velcro dots hold it closed.

This tag rests on the front cover and is held in place by the belly band.  The illustration on the cover is actually a little 3.25″ x 4.25″ trifold photo wallet.  For me, these folios are all about the interactive elements!

I designed the folio so that both sides can be used.  This gives you a total of 10 panels with lots of options for flaps, pocket, tips ins and photo display.

This is just the 3 middle panels on the reverse side.  As you can see, I managed to fit in a a waterfall feature.  That makes lots of room for photos!

Because I thought you might want to try to make one of these little dittys, I created a tutorial showing you how to build the base, create the sloped edge, and add the pockets and flaps.  You’ll see a video tour of the folio first.  I hope you enjoy.

I thought about calling this a ski slope folio, or a shaped edge folio…but in the end I settled on zig zag because of the way it looks when folded.  If you have a better idea for a name, please let me know!

I hope I shared some tips and tricks that you can use in your own crafty adventures.  If so, I’d love to hear from you in the comment section below.

Thanks for stopping by!

Ride On All Occasion Hidden Tag Card

Ride On All Occasion Hidden Tag Card for RRR Summer Challenge

Hello, Ribbon Lovers! Oh, I am having such a good time playing with the June Ribbon Club Assortment that I pulled them back out to use again on my card for the RRR Summer Challenge.  This time, I played with the beautiful Ocean Blue Ribbons in the assortment.  But once again, I did not make a beach themed project.  What in the world?  Instead I made this lovely, summery Ride On All Occasion Hidden Tag Card.

This card brings back so many happy memories of summer days spent riding my bike with my best friend Robin.  Both of us had what we called “junkyard bikes” : no brakes, no fancy gears, big fat tires, and old fashioned bicycle seats.  But we loved our trusty steeds nonetheless and had many a summer adventure with them and one another.

Ride On Hidden Tag Card: The Details

Ribbon makes for a lovely border on this soft, summery card, especially when topped with a trio of vintage buttons.   First I put down a layer of Copen Blue Delicate Stitched Satin using 1/2″ Scor-Tape. Then I used 1/4″ Scor-Tape to layer Copen Blue Diamonds and Dots Satin on top. These ribbons are a perfect color match for the designer papers from Authentique’s Felicity Collection Kit.  Blue and yellow is a classic color combination for sure!

This bow cluster tops my hidden tag.  Isn’t that fun?  Once again, I glued down my focal image on just the top and bottom edge.  Then I created a tag to fit the pocket and tucked it inside.

What’s In Your Pocket?

Now It’s YOUR Turn

Are you inspired to get out your scissors and glue and have a play with paper and pretty ribbons or trim?  Good!  Because now it’s your turn to share your summer project with ribbon or trim with us on the RRR BLOG.  You have until June 28th at 11:59PM to link your project up.  Be sure to stop by the RRR BLOG and read the challenge guidelines so that your entry will be considered.  You’ll also find inspiration from the RRR team to get you ready to create.

I hope you enjoyed this Ride On All Occasion Hidden Tag Card.  If so, I’d love to hear from you in the comment section below.
