Authentique Harvest Autumn Banner

Authentique Harvest Autumn Banner

Hello, Friends!  Let’s welcome fall today with an Authentique Harvest Autumn Banner.  Harvest is a wonderful retired Authentique paper collection, and has always been a favorite of mine.  So when a friend asked me to make her a fall banner for her home, I knew immediately that this was the collection I wanted to work with.  The warm autumn color palette, the rich vintage images and the fabulous patterned papers offer everything I want for fall home decor.

Banner Tips and Tricks

I love to mix and match pennant shapes when I am making a banner.  Contrasting shapes add so much visual interest to the overall design.  For this banner, combine the Eileen Hull House/Pocket die with some shaped tags.  The rounded edge of the tags paired up with the pointed edge of the House/Pocket die provides wonderful shaped edge along the bottom of the banner.

Banner pennants are small spaces.  But you still want to add layers, right?  An easy solution is to combine die cut layers, like these die cut circles, with fussy cut layers.  Adding foam dimensionals between  these layers provides lots of depth and dimension.

Texture also plays an important role when designing a banner.  The netting ribbon , jute ribbon, plaid ribbon, crochet lace and flowers all have different textures that harmonize well.

Think about adding some text to your banner design.  It’s a welcome break from all the patterns and images.

Don’t be afraid to cut large images down to a size that fits your surface.  I wanted to use this sentiment from a 6″ x 4″ journal card.  Obviously it was too big for the area I had to work within.  But by centering the sentiment inside a circle die, I was able to create a perfectly sized focal image.

Tuck large elements, like these beautiful fall flowers, behind a focal image to really make it stand out.  You can also fussy cut small sentiments, mat them on scraps of cardstock and layer them into the composition to create a balanced vignette.

I hope I’ve shared some tips, tricks and ideas you can use to add warmth and beauty to your autumn home décor.

Thank so much for stopping by!

Give Thanks Banner and Greeting Card

Give Thanks Banner and Greeting Card with Petaloo and Authentique

Hello, Friends!  Thanksgiving is upon us, and the very thought makes my heart happy!  Did you know it’s my favorite holiday?  I get to spend time with my precious family, eat fabulous food, play games, and bake pies…and bake pies…and bake pies. It’s the coziest, warmest, least complicated holiday of the season.  I generally do a little decorating to set the stage for the family feast, and with that in mind I have created a Give Thanks banner and greeting card to share with you here today.

give-thanks-banner-and-greeting-card-harvest-by-kathy-clement-product-by-authentique-photo-2I love the rich colors and beautiful patterns found in Authentique’s Harvest Collection!  They pair perfectly with these Petaloo Mocha Sugared Blooms, Cream  and Green Darjeeling Hydrangeas, and Fall Mix Burlap Leaves.  The linen ribbon I used in the background was in a clearance bin at Michaels.  To my surprise it leapt right into my cart and came home with me.  Because the sides were already stitched, I simply attached it to a cork and cardstock base.  Easy peasy!

give-thanks-banner-by-kathy-clement-product-by-petaloo-international-photo-3To create some extra dimension, I fussy cut the focal image twice. layering just the sentiment over the acorn and leaves background.

Prima Copper Crackle paste and Ranger Espresso Color Wash gave my chipboard frame an amazing vintage finish.  I backed the open center of the frame with copper wire mesh that I found in my stash. Then I began layering in all these gorgeous Petaloo flowers, mini pumpkins, acorns, and fibers into a beautiful autumn wreath.

give-thanks-banner-by-kathy-clement-product-by-petaloo-international-photo-5The mini pumpkins and acorns were lightly brushed with more of the copper texture paste.

thankful-banner-and-greeting-card-harvest-by-kathy-clement-product-by-authentique-photo-6Oh, Mocha Botanica Sugared Blooms, how I love thee!  Especially when you hang out with Copper Glitz Ribbon and Natural Burlap String.

Thankful Greeting Card

thankful-card-harvest-by-kathy-clement-product-by-authentique-photo-1How gorgeous is this image?  I kept the design of this card very simple so that the spotlight would shine brightly on this autumn beauty.

I love the way this Ivory/Brown/Copper Plaid ribbon pull out the colors in the designer papers.

thankful-card-harvest-by-kathy-clement-product-by-authentique-photo-7I created a little belly band for the tea bag by wrapping it with a scrap of designer paper and tying it with a little copper glitz ribbon.

thankful-card-harvest-by-kathy-clement-product-by-authentique-photo-8Lots of goodies in these pockets!  This would make such a lovely hostess gift at Thanksgiving!

That’s it for me, my friends.  Thanks so much for stopping by.

What are you most thankful for this fall?  I am thankful for each and every one of you who are sharing this creative journey with me.

kathy

authentique-harvest-gratitude-album-harvest-by-kathy-clement-for-really-reasonable-ribbon-product-by-authentique-photo-1This little tri fold mini is loaded with fall goodness. To set the stage, I’ve combined gorgeous Tangerine Shimmer Satin Gold ribbon and Natural Burlap String to decorate the album front.

You might like to watch this short YouTube video tour of the gratitude album.  I share all the details and talk a little about the construction as well.  Getting a feel for the flow of a mini album is always easier with a video tour.

Lots and Lots of Lovely Layers

authentique-harvest-gratitude-album-harvest-by-kathy-clement-for-really-reasonable-ribbon-product-by-authentique-photo-2Layered papers fill me with delight…but I also love to layer my bows!  Using my Zutter Bow it All tool is like having a pair of helping hands when you are tying a double layer bow.  You can add lots of texture by adding a simple looped string bow tied with Natural Burlap String. Take that bow cluster over the top by adding gorgeous Petaloo flowers. A mocha Botanica Bloom, Cream Vintage Velvet Cherry Blossom and Ivory Vintage Velvet Dogwood were “autumned up” with a few spritzes of Tattered Angels Jack o Lantern Glimmer Mist.

Autumn Wildflowers Card & Bookmark

Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts Announcement and Autumn Wildflowers Card

Hello, Friends!  I have a bit of news and a lovely Autumn Wildflowers Card to share with you today.  I’m pleased as punch to let you know that after a summer of filling guest designer spots on the Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts blog, I’ve been asked to officially join the team.  Hooray!  I’m looking forward to sharing tips and techniques for working with fabulous GSL chippies twice a month.  Now, let’s get down to business and see what kind of mixed media I have for you today!

autumn-wildflowers-card-harvest-by-kathy-clement-for-gypsy-soul-laser-cuts-product-by-authentique-and-gsl-photo-2Growing up in Vermont, Queen Anne’s Lace used to grow wild along the roadside.  I have always thought it was the most beautiful of all wildflowers.  When I found these lovely Queen Anne’s Lace chips in my DT box, I was thrilled!  Immediately, I knew I wanted to alter them with Distress Paints and Embossing Enamel.

autumn-wildflowers-card-harvest-by-kathy-clement-for-gypsy-soul-laser-cuts-product-by-authentique-and-gsl-photo-5After treating them to a mixed media beauty regimen, I combined them  them with these Authentique Harvest papers.
