Spellbinders Amazing Paper Grace April 2020 Die of the Month Vignette Typewriter by Kathy Clement Kathy by Design Photo 01

Spellbinders April 2020 Club Kits Blog Hop: APG 3D Vintage Vignette Typewriter Birthday Card

Hello, Friends!  Welcome to the Spellbinders April 2020 Club Kits Blog Hop.  You should be coming here from BIBI’S  blog.  If so , you are right on track.  You can find a complete blog hop list at the bottom of this post.    Today, I’m sharing another adorable Amazing Paper Grace Vintage Vignette Typewriter card.  If you missed the cute pink and black typewriter card that I shared earlier this month, you can find that HERE.

I love a snarky greeting on a  birthday card, don’t you?  So I paired this adorable 3D Vintage Vignette Typewriter Die up with Authentique Paper’s Party Paper Collection.  Insert a 3″ x 4″ sentiment card from the collection in the typewriter “roller”.  Then use the die from the kit to cut extra designer paper “pages”.  Place dimensionals between these layers for even more depth and dimension.  Finally, create a banner with stickers from the Party collection kit.

Die cut the pieces of the 3D Vintage Vignette Typewriter from foil cardstock and patterned papers as I did here.  To add extra depth and detail, run the die cuts through a second time using the embossing plate and mat.  Then  assemble the pieces with dimensionals between the layers. As a final touch, place a small dab of Ranger Black Enamel Dots on each key for extra shine and dimension.

APG 3D Vintage Vignette Typewriter Birthday Card: A Peek Inside

Turn the card into a sweet little gift by adding pockets on the inside.  First, tuck in a little chocolate and a blank sentiment card on the bottom.  Then create a gift card wallet and tuck into a second pocket on the top half of the card.

Such a great snarky sentiment!

Snarky Masculine Birthday Wishes

Authentique Party Snarky Masculine Birthday Wishes

Hello, Friends!  Can I tell you a secret?  I love to make masculine cards.  And this Snarky Masculine Birthday Wishes card makes me fairly giddy with glee.  It was perfect for our youngest son’s birthday celebration last month.  He has always been the practical, organized, level headed guy who always has a plan and I(almost) always has his act together. This is probably the sort of thing he would wish for on his birthday!

Tips for Using Ribbon on a Masculine Card

I also love to demonstrate how easy it is to use ribbon on a masculine card in a way that is not to frilly or frou-frou.  Want to know my secret?  Choose patterns and textures that make you think of mens’ ties and suits!  It’s a “win” every single time!

For this card, combine Shell Grey Shimmer Satin Ribbon with Black and Grey Diamond Print Grosgrain Ribbon for the win!  The crisp finish of the satin ribbon speaks to men’s formal wear while the pattern on the grosgrain ribbon would look right at home on a tie.  Top the bow with a little birthday cake charm and a masculine button.  Layer the patterned ribbon over the satin ribbon.  Then top with buttons for a look that resembles a French Cuff on a man’s dressy shirt.

Use Scor-Tape to adhere the ribbons, and wrap the ends around the back of your card panel for a neat and tidy finish.

Here’s a peek at the inside:

Clean and simple, but still fun.  That’s how to make a great masculine card!

I hope I’ve shared some tips and tricks that you can use to help you make your next masculine card.  If so, I’d love to hear from you in the comment section below.

Authentique Confection Sweet Treats Tutorial

Authentique Confection Sweet Treats Tutorial

Hello, Friends!  Have you seen the darling new Authentique Confection Collection?  Oh  my goodness!  Is it ever cute!  Today I’m sharing a TRIO of Authentique Confection Creations with you as well as a shaker box tutorial.  Lots of photos and info ahead, so grab a snack and a cuppa and let’s get started!

Authentique Confection Double Waterfall Mini Album with Shaker Box Cover

How sweet is this little 6 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ double waterfall mini album?  I’ve used an Amazing Paper Grace Vintage Treasures Die (Brillante Rondelle) for the shaker box, then surround it with hot pink buttons that look like candies, Little Birdie Vivid Palette Posies, novelty buttons and pink gingham ribbon.  This would be such a cute way to document a birthday party, wouldn’t it?

The spine is wrapped with satin ribbon.  I’ve hot glued a couple more buttons to the tails, just for fun.

Double Waterfall Mini Album with Shaker Box Cover:  A Peek Inside

Inside, you will find mirror image waterfalls, each measuring 4 1/2″ square.  Confetti style grosgrain ribbon serves as a closure.

TIP: Use scraps of Spectrum Tickled Pink Cardstock  to create little 3 1/4″ x 4 1/4 folios. Top these with images from the collection.

Line the inside with 3″ x 4″ panels of designer paper.

The waterfall will hold sixteen 4″ x 4″ photos.

TIP: Score a 1/2″ flap on the side of a cut apart image.  Adhere behind the designer paper liner to add a fun interactive element to your album.

Double Waterfall Mini Album with Shaker Box Cover: How to Make the Waterfalls

There is no binding system for this album, which makes it very quick and easy to assemble.  Here’s how:

  • First, cut (10) 4 3/4″ x 4 1/2″ panels of Authentique Spectrum Tickled Pink Cardstock.
  • Next, score a 1/2″ flap on the left hand side of each panel.
  • Fold and burnish along the scored line.
  • Now, center and adhere the first flap on the far left hand side of the album base.
  • Then, flip the page open.  Line the folded edge of the next panel up with the bottom edge of the first.  Repeat this until you have added 5 panels to each side.  Keep  everything straight and centered!

The 5th flap (the one on the bottom) will be a little too long.  No worries!  Simple fold the edge back 1 1/2″ .  Now you have a fun double pocket feature on each side of the album!  Line the base page with designer paper.  Then adhere just the sides of that 1 1/2″ flap to the album base to form a pocket on the top.  Then adhere just the top and bottom edge of the waterfall panel to the album base to form a little tag pocket.

Tuck 3″ x 4″ photo mounts and decorated tags into this double pocket feature.

Authentique Confection Project #2:  Gift Card Wallet

The next project is an adorable gift card wallet.  This measures 8 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ with a 1/2″ spine.  You can make this with one sheet of Hot Fudge Cardstock:

  • First, place the long side of one sheet of Hot Fudge Cardstock against the rail of your scoring tool.
  • Make the first score line at 4 1/2″.
  • Score again at 5″.  This forms the 1/2″ spine.
  • Now score a final time at 9 1/2″.
  • The 1 1/2″ flap becomes the pocket.

Mat the donut image on a scrap of Tickled Pink Cardstock.  Adhere just 3 sides to form a little tag pocket.

Create a couple of cute folios to tuck into the larger pocket.

Use scraps of designer paper to create an inner pocket to hold gift cards, or small sweet treats.

Authentique Confection Project #3: Loaded Envelope with Shaker Frame

Loaded envelopes are so much fun to create!  Adding a shaker frame really makes it feel like a party is about to happen.  For this project, I combined both Authentique Party and Authentique Confection with the Eileen Hull Mailable Frame Die.  Since I share this in the tutorial video below, I won’t go into a lot of detail here.  But i will share the photos.

I had loads of fun creating little goodies to tuck inside this envelope!

This G45 Large Ivory Tag is covered on both sides.  The magnetic folio on the reverse side is a great place to write a little note.

These mixed media tags are made with G45 Square Ivory Laser Cut Tags (retired) and Distress Oxide Inks in  Picked Raspberry, Spun Sugar, Mustard Seed, Mermaid Lagoon and Cracked Pistachio.  Each tag is covered on the back side as well.

Here’s the Eileen Hull Mailable Frame Die again…this time serving as an envelope with a window opening.

And it wouldn’t be a Kathy by Design creation without a little tea, honey stick and vintage silver plate spoon, would it?  I’ve also covered individually wrapped Biscoff Cookies with designer paper.

His and Hers Birthday Card Folios with Authentique Party

His and Hers Birthday Card Folios with Authentique Party

Hello, Friends!  It seems that no matter how many birthday cards I make, I still need to make more!  So when Authentique Paper released their fabulous new Party Collection, I was nearly giddy with joy!  Just like a present at a birthday party, I ripped the pack open and went to work creating these fun His and Hers Birthday Card Folios.

Party is a celebration on paper!  Bursting with vibrant color, retro images, playful patterns and sassy sentiments, it’s just pure fun to create with it!  Both these cards measure 5.25″ x 7.25″.  I added an extra score line to each base to create a spine that would allow for goodies to be tucked inside each folio.

His and Hers Birthday Card Folios: A Party Without Cake?  Never!

His and Hers Birthday Card Folios Party by Kathy Clement Product by Authentique Paper Photo 02Sometimes, you open a collection and know right away what you want to do with it.  I personally love when that happens.  The minute I saw this lovely cake image, this whole card design popped into my head. Hooray for inspiration!  It makes life so much easier!

How to Create the Party Cake Focal

His and Hers Birthday Card Folios Party by Kathy Clement Product by Authentique Paper Photo 03

Here’s how I created the focal for this party pretty card.

  • First, fussy cut the cake image from Party Eight.  Don’t worry about trimming between the candles.  Add foam tabs or dimensionals to the back side of the fussy cut image.
  • Fussy cut the floral clusters from Party Six.  Back with dimensionals.
  • Next, add foam tabs or other dimensionals to the back side of the cake image.  (I cut up the Priority Mail boxes that my design team allotments are shipped in or other waste chipboard.)
  • Die cut a doily from white cardstock.  This is a Prima doily die, but you can use any doily from your stash.  I don’t recommend using a thin paper doily, however, as it won’t work in this application.
  • Cut the black polka dot paper from Party Six with Spellbinders Small Standard Circles Die (#5). Adhere this to the center of the doily.  Back the center of the doily with more foam tabs/dimensionals.

  • Now dress this cake up for the party by adding Diamond Stickles to the icing on the top layer and in the center of the cake layers.
  • While the Stickles are still wet, sprinkle the top of the cake with TuTu Pink Prills
  • Arrange the fussy cut flower clusters around the base of the plate, and adhere to the card.

Party for Her: A peek Inside

This stamped sentiment is the perfect match up for this card!

His and Hers Birthday Card Folios Party by Kathy Clement Product by Authentique Paper Photo 08The large pocket on the bottom holds a sweet treat.  (How did Trader Joe’s know that Authentique was releasing the Party collection?  That’s what I want to know!)

I also tucked in a little gift card holder with room to write a personal note.

His and Hers Birthday Card Folios: Aged to Perfection

The fact that this collection can be used to create cards for guys and gals makes me really happy!

His and Hers Birthday Card Folios Party by Kathy Clement Product by Authentique Paper Photo 11Meet Dapper Dan the Birthday Man!  LOL  Don’t you just love his natty teal birthday suit?  Since the Party Collection Kit comes with the Details Stickers and Components Die Cuts,  I was able to add some fun accents to both cards.

The “Best Wishes” sentiment banner and the “Let’s Party” Banner Flag are from the Components Die Cut Elements sheet and the Details Sticker Sheet.    I fussy cut the “Aged to Perfection” image from Party Seven, then tucked it behind the fussy cut image from Party One.

There’s a party going on inside this birthday card, too.  I die cut a gift card holder and added it to the top half of the card.

Then I created a cute chocolate wallet for the large pocket on the bottom.  It takes a really secure man to wear a pointy pink party hat!  LOL
