Authentique Wintery Walk Shaker Card

Authentique Wintery Walk Shaker Card

Hello, Friends!  Today’s Authentique Wintery Walk Shaker Card is a blast from the past.  We’re getting close to the time of year when many of us make New Year’s Resolutions or set goals for the coming year.  One of my goals is to dig into my vast paper stash and use up some of my favorite retired collections.

The Wintery Collection was released by Authentique in October 2016.  This (now retired)  collection stole my heart. I still love the color palette, gorgeous patterns, vintage images and fresh vintage styling.  Do you have some in your stash?  Then why not pull it out and create a fabulous winter themed card with it today?

Walking in a Winter Wonderland

Take a minute and look at the 3 cute cowgirls all dressed in wintry white.  It was an easy choice to make them the focal image for this 5 1/2″  square top fold card.  Here are some tips and tricks to help you re-create this Wintery Wonderland.

  • First, heat emboss a chipboard frame with Shabby Ivory embossing powder to amp up the winter vibe on this whimsical card.
  • Next, brush the edges of card panels, flowers and leaves with chalk paint and then sprinkle with fine glitter to create a snowy finish.

  • Make your card layers pop!  Mat each card layer on Spectrum Tricycle Red Cardstock.
  • Then, create your own blizzard. Fill the shaker box with mini snowmen, snowflakes and white sequins.
  • Finally, add some cute wintry buttons to carry out the theme.
A Peek Inside

This is a great card for winter birthdays.  Turn it into a gift by adding pockets inside.

  • First, turn a 3×4 journal card into a tea pocket.  Simply adhere 3 sides!  Easy peasy!

  • Next, create a pocket on the bottom to hold a gift card wallet and a little chocolate snowman treat.

Tuck a gift card, monetary gift, tickets or small token inside the gift card wallet. You can also add a border strip to a plain white cardstock to create a blank note card.

I’m going to try to share more “blasts from the past” in 2021 and hopefully use up a bunch of papers from favorite retired collections.  Who is with me?  Let me hear from you in the comment section below.

Let it Snow Flip Folio Tutorial

Authentique Wintery Let it Snow Flip Folio Tutorial by Kathy Clement Kathy by Design for Throwback Thursday Photo 01

Let it Snow Flip Folio with Authentique Wintery for Throwback Thursday

Hello, Friends!  For this episode of Throwback Thursday I’ve prepared this adorable Let it Snow Flip Folio Tutorial.  I reached all the way back to October 2016 when Authentique Paper released their gorgeous vintage style Wintery collection.  This was the collection that convinced me to find a way to get on this design team.  It’s so perfectly vintage, but perfectly fresh…which is kind of Authentique Paper’s wheelhouse.  (By the way, I was asked to Guest Design for Authentique Paper in May 2017, and I gleefully joined the team after that Guest Designer spot. I joke with Samantha, the owner, that I had to woo her hard in between those two dates.)

Let it Snow Flip Folio Details

This little folio is 5 1/2″ square with a 1 1/2″ spine.  The design is simple, but elegant.  Here’s how the front cover comes together:

  • First, cover a G45 Ivory Square Tag with designer paper from the Wintery collection.  Use the tag tie to cut the paper liner.
  • Next, heat emboss a Reneabouquets Snowflake Shadow Box with Stampendous Shabby Blue Frantage Embossing Enamel.
  • Then, build the shaker box following Renea’s YouTube tutorial.
  • Now fill the shaker box with a sequin mix.  My mix is linked in the supply list below this post.
  • Next adhere the shaker box to the striped 3×4 journal card from the paper collection.
  • Then adhere this whole piece to the covered G45 tag.
  • Before you adhere the tag to the cover, be sure to wrap the folio with ribbon.

  • Next, attach the Reneabouquets Snowman to the right hand side of the shaker box.  Use foam tape to fill in the space behind the body.
  • Now all that is left to do is add your winter greenery, flowers and embellishments.

Here’s a look at the spine.

It’s always easier to get a feel for the layout and flow of an interactive folio in a video.  So I’ve prepared a short project tour.  This is followed by a tutorial that will help you build the base and the interactive elements within the folio.  I hope you enjoy!

Winter Survival Kit

RRR Blog Hop: Winter Survival Kit with Authentique Wintery

Hello, Ribbon Lovers!  Welcome to the January 2017 Blog Hop with Really Reasonable Ribbon.  You should have arrived here from Karen’s lovely blog.  I’ve created a really fun Winter Survival Kit using the fabulous Sweetheart Mix in the January Ribbon Club Assortment.  These ribbons are great for Valentine’s Day, but they work well for winter projects, too!  Here’s a peek:

How to Make a Winter Survival Kit

Winter seems to be one of those seasons that elicits strong feelings: you either love it or you hate it.  Having grown up in New England, I had to endure my share of long, harsh winters.  I guess I am somewhat disloyal to the land of my birth, because I don’t miss winter one bit!  Yes, the snow is pretty.,.but it is so COLD!  Your hands get chapped, your lips get chapped, you catch colds, your nose runs, and this goes on day after day after day.  So, for those of you who are still stuck in a northern climate, I’ve created a handy dandy little Winter Survival Kit.

I traced around some packaging to create my Winter Survival Kit base box.  You could easily use a gift bag, but I wanted something really sturdy.  Authentique’s Wintery paper collection is a great playmate for the Sweetheart Mix Ribbons.  I love the way the red and white ribbons pop against these deep blue/grey papers.

I found this old die cut January calendar in my stash and glued it to the front of my Winter Survival Kit.  Then I painted a chipboard medallion with cream chalk paint and heat embossed it with shabby blue embossing enamel.  Next, I glued the snowman image in place using waste chipboard on the back to add extra dimension.

I love this teeny tiny chipboard birdhouse that I covered with papers from the collection.  The rusted heart, flowers and sentiment were glued onto a miniature slate that I found in my stash.

Don’t forget to decorate the sides of your Winter Survival Kit!

Ribbon borders add a pop of color and great texture to the top and bottom of the kit.

It’s What’s Inside that Counts!

Look at all the goodies I’ve packed in to my Winter Survival Kit.  Each item is decorated with ribbon from the Sweetheart Mix then wrapped with papers from the Wintery collection.  You’ll find just about everything you might need here to survive winter: Cut-a-Soup, Emergen-C, pocket pack of tissues, Chap Stick, hand cream,  antibacterial wipes, herbal tea, and a honey stick. The warmth and cheer inside this Winter Survival Kit is sure to chase away the winter blues!

On With the Hop!

Now hop on over to Cherry’s blog to see what goodies she has cooked up for you.  There is a complete list of the blogs in this hop on the RRR Blog, so if you get lost, hop on over there and get back on track.

Visit all the blogs along the way, and leave some love behind.  When you”re through hopping, pop on over to the RRR Blog and answer the question of the month so you can be entered into a drawing to win your very own Sweetheart Ribbon Mix.

If you’re not a member of the RRR Monthly Ribbon Club, now is a great time to join.  Each month you will receive a fabulous assortment of beautiful ribbons delivered right to your door. Monthly ribbon club assortments are selected and pre-packed to reflect a specific theme, color, or holiday season. The assortments vary from month to month, but an average assortment has 9 different ribbon styles and consists of 16-18 yards of ribbon.

That’s all for me folks!  Stay warm, and thanks for hopping by!

Snowflake Kisses Valentine Pocket Card

Snowflake Kisses Valentine Pocket Card with Sweetheart Ribbon Mix and Authentique Wintery

Hello, Ribbon Lovers!  Is it snowing in your neck of the woods?  We don’t get a whole lot of snow here in North Carolina, but I see a lot of my Facebook friends dealing with lots and lots of snowflakes!  I never did much care for winter.  It’s beautiful…but it is COLD!  About the only way I like to experience winter any more is on paper.  I’ve been having lots of fun with the new Authentique Wintery collection.  It’s a great playmate for the RRR January Ribbon Club Sweetheart Mix.  I had both on my work desk today, and came up with this whimsical Snowflake Kisses Valentine Pocket Card.

These are not exactly traditional Valentine’s Day colors, but I fell in love with the sentiment.   I say this is a Valentine, but it would also make a great get well card, winter birthday card or thinking of you card.

So, I have a new ribbon crush to tell you about.  Have you tried out the taffeta ribbon in the shop?  Oooh-la-la!  It ties the most beautiful crisp bows!  I super love how the white ribbon brightens the composition of this card.  The Sweetheart Mix was put into action on the belly band, too.  Don’t you just love the Random Hearts and Confetti Dots Grosgrain layered over crocheted lace?

The ribbons in this assortment are sooo gorgeous you are going to want to use every little snippet of them.  I cut fishtails on the ends of two tiny scraps of this Bold Diamond Red Satin ribbon and tucked them under my greeting.  They don’t just look pretty; they actually draw the eye to the sentiment panel.

What’s In Your Pocket?

The inside of this card is soooo cute I can hardly stand it.  What’s in the pocket?  A packet of Lipton Cup-a-Soup, that’s what!  How fun is that?  I just couldn’t help myself, my friends.  Having practically LIVED on this stuff when I was in college way back in the Dark Ages, I thought it would be perfect for this wintry card.  What do you think?

Sending you lots and lots of wintry snowflake kisses!

Thanks for stopping by!

Cheerio,

kathy
