Winter Birthday Wishes Card

Wintry Birthday Wishes Card Prima Christmas in the Country by Kathy Clement Kathy by Design for Really Reasonable Ribbon Photo 01

Prima Christmas in the Country Winter Birthday Wishes Card for Really Reasonable Ribbon

Hello, Friends! Do you ever use your Christmas papers for Winter Birthday Wishes?   Sometimes we forget that December is a birthday month for lots of folks.  We actually had 4 family birthdays this month!  This vintage style card made with Prima’s Christmas in the Country collection is a perfect choice for a winter birthday greeting.

The buffalo check, and frosted roses make me feel like I’m out for a brisk sleigh ride in the sparkling snow.  How about you?  Texture and pattern play an important role in this card design.

  • Houndstooth plaid lends a counterpoint to the large check in the background.
  • Antique Silver embossing on the frame amps up the vintage vibe.
  • Silver linen paper has a soft weave that adds a subtle sparkle that is echoed by the silver metallic grosgrain ribbon.
  • Silky printed satin ribbon adds a touch of whimsy to the card arrangement.
  • The glittering rhinestone button adds just the right touch of elegance.

If you’ve never dry brushed your flowers with chalk paint, I highly recommend it.  These red summer roses look as though they’ve been touched by frost.

Try tucking some metal charms into your flower cluster.  It’s a fun surprise!  And winter butterflies create a sense of movement as they flit around the framed image.

A Peek Inside

Finish the inside with a pair of pockets and some thoughtful tuck in’s.  Gift cards are always a welcome birthday treat!

I hope you all enjoyed the most wonderful, peaceful and joyful Christmas!  It’s hard to believe that we are almost at the end of this very tough year.  Let’s hope there are good things waiting in the wings!

Thanks for stopping by!

Man in the Moon Masculine Milestone Birthday Card

Man in the Moon Masculine Milestone Birthday Card with RRR and Masquerade

Hello, Friends!  What do you say we make a Masculine Milestone Birthday Card today?  Our youngest son, my baby, turns 30 this week!  What?  How did that happen so fast!  No big milestone birthday bash this year, but I did want to make him a special card to commemorate the occasion.  As I was creating Halloween cards with the Masquerade collection, my eye fell on this whimsical image of these dapper gents partying on a crescent moon.  Perfect image for a son that you love to the moon and back!

The Process

This whimsical creation comes together in a jiffy, too.  The basic card recipe can be adapted  for use with any theme, any paper collection for any season.  Since this is fall, I chose to use fall colors.  Here’s the step by step:

  • Begin by creating a 5 3/4″ x 5 3/4″ top fold card from kraft cardstock.
  • Next, mat a 5 1/4″ square of the orange tartan on a 5 1/2″ square of black cardstock.
  • Now mat a 2 1/2″ x 5 1/8″ scrap of the reverse pattern on a 2 5/8″ x 5 3/8″ panel of black CS and adhere along the left hand side of the tartan.  Leave about a 1/2″ margin.
  • Then die cut the Tim Holtz Timekeeper clock from black cardstock.  Back it a circle of the argyle print from the Masquerade 6×6 pad. Adhere in the center of the card.
  • Die cut some stitched stars and the milestone numbers from copper foil paper and patterned paper.
  • Next fussy cut the men in the moon twice.  Layer together with dimensionals between them to create real depth.
  • Tuck the largest star behind the image.  Then adhere the image to the center of the clock.

  • Use an embossing folder to add texture to the numbers.  Then tap with Ground Espresso Distress Paint.  Let it dry for a few seconds, then wipe away the excess to create the look of hammered copper.
  • Add copper brads along the side.
  • Color the silver charm with a mix of Ginger Alcohol Ink.  Place it over the smallest star, securing with a foam dimensional.
  • The perfect finishing touch is a simple bow tied with Brown and Cream Gingham Ribbon from  Really Reasonable Ribbon.  Top the bow off with a haberdashery button for the win.
A Peek Inside

Finish the inside with papers and images from the Manly collection. Joel is a runner, so I had to fit that running shoe pattern into his card somewhere.   I tucked a little gift wallet inside the “Man Card” pocket.  (This image actually kinda looks like our handsome son!  Way to go, Authentique Paper!)  Add a panel of stamped birthday wishes to finish the interior of the card.

Simple.  Manly, Festive.  Not cute.  Whimsical.  I think this will work nicely for our son!  Joel has been a constant source of delight to our family.  As the youngest, he was doted on from the day he was born.  All of his siblings watched over him, protected him and spoiled him …just enough…not too much!  He’s industrious, intelligent and thoughtful.  And no, I’m not the least bit biased.  You’d feel that way about him, too, if you met him!

So there you go…an easy card “recipe” for a masculine milestone birthday.  Who knew that Halloween paper would work so well for a birthday card!

Authentique Hooray Milestone Birthday Card by Kathy Clement Kathy by Design Photo 01

Milestone Birthday Blog Hop Celebrating Ginger Ropp!

Hello, Friends!  Today I’m particpating in a Milestone Birthday Blog Hop for the Queen of Papercrafting, Ginger Ropp!  You should be coming here from Ginny Nemchak’s fabulous blog.

Most of us  know Ginger by her blog and YouTube handle “My Sister’s Scrapper.”  Since Ginger can’t throw a big milestone birthday bash this year, she decided to have a little birthday blog hop and invited me and two of my other favorite creative sisters to participate.  So Annette Green (Annette’s Creative Journey) and Ginny Nemchak (Polly’s Paper Studio) and I are joining forces to make Ginger’s Milestone birthday memorable!

Before we dig in, I just want to sing Ginger’s praises for a moment.  I’ve followed her on YouTube and her blog for a very long time now.  She never fails to inspire me.  Her paper engineering skills are off the charts, and her video tutorials are fabulous.  But more than that, Ginger is an incredibly kind and generous person with a great sense of humor.  I got to meet her :”in real life” at Creativation in 2018, and she’s as warm and real and funny  as I had hoped.  Thanks, Ginger, for all the many ways your friendship has blessed my life!  I truly love and appreciate you!

Authentique Hooray Slightly Snarky Birthday Card

Slightly snarky birthday cards are always fun to make, give and receive.  Today I have a quick and easy 10 minute tutorial that will show you how to make this cute retro style card.

The paper is from Authentique’s Hooray collection.  I love the aqua and red color palette and all the fun little birthday patterns.

Here’s a peek at the inside.  I added a little die cut gift card holder and a wee note card, just for fun.

Video Tutorial

The video tutorial below will show you how to make this fun card.

The Giveaway

I also have a little giveaway over on my YouTube Channel, so you’ll want to be sure to check that out.  To be entered in the random drawing, you must be subscribed to my YouTube channel and leave a comment.  That’s it!   You’ll have to watch the video to find out what I’m giving away!

Now hop on over and see what the birthday girl, Ginger Ropp, has prepared for you.  I know she is doing a giveaway as well!  Hooray for birthdays!

Thanks so much for helping us celebrate Ginger’s birthday!

Ciao Bella Sicilia Birthday Card

Ciao Bella Scilia Birthday Card by Kathy Clement Kathy by Design Photo 01

Ciao Bella Sicilia Birthday Card

Hello, Friends!  Summertime is winding down, but I just had to share this Ciao Bella Sicilia Birthday Card with you.  It’s so lemon fresh and pretty!  This is the card I  made for our daughter’s birthday this past week.  She came in on Wednesday and just left a few minutes ago.  I had this waiting for her on the dresser in “her” bedroom.  It was the perfect birthday card because she loves lemons .

Liz is also grows the most beautiful flowers.  She only has a small terrace on her apartment, but she has transformed it into a Mediterranean escape with herbs, roses, hibiscus and flowers blooming in abundance.  Butterflies, hummingbirds and bumblebees visit her terrace daily, so I had to incorporate those elements into the design of this 6×6 easel card as well.

The bow cluster is topped with a Reneabouquets glitter glass butterfly,  I’ve also scattered Reneabouquets Tiny Treasure Butterflies around the page to pull out the blues in the paper collection.  Pair Yellow Gold Delicate Stitched Satin Ribbon with Gold Metallic String to create a luxurious bow.

The Planter Box

To create the “planter box” on the base of the easel card follow these steps:

  • First, adhere a metal drawer pull upside down on the card base.  Use Dries Clear Adhesive or a metal adhesive.  Hot glue does not work well with metal.
  • Next, fill the cavity of the drawer pull with Spanish Moss.  This forms a great base for the flower fillers.
  • Now, tuck in some bird feathers, Queenie Moonlight Flowers and Renea Moonlight flowers to fill the planter.

The Front Pocket

Create a shallow box pocket on the card front.  Now you can tuck in a decorative tag and a little sticky note pad as a gift.

My thought was that Liz could keep the card on her work desk as a reminder that she is loved.  The note pad tucks away into the pocket, but serves a practical purpose as well.

TIP: Adhere the sticky note pad to a 2 7/8″ square of chipboard to provide a solid writing surface.  When the initial pad is used up, it’s easy to adhere a new one on top.

A Peek Inside

Leave a little  room inside the card to write a personal message.  Family birthdays (we have a LOT of them this month!) have been keeping me super busy in the studio.  I’ve missed visiting with you all here, but it’s been so good to celebrate our loved ones in small gatherings.   This wasn’t the big “milestone birthday bash” we had planned prior to the pandemic…but it was still sweet and special.  And we did our best to celebrate our birthday girl in style.  I think she left today feeling loved, appreciated and cherished.  That’s always a good thing.

I know I’ve been a bit scarce here on the blog of late.  Life has just been extremely busy.  We have harvested (and by we I mean me) more than 600 tomatoes this summer.  Those luscious tomatoes have been processed into jars of salsa, marinara and soup base that I know we will enjoy in the cool winter months. There have been 9 family birthdays!  The studio is being de-stashed and reorganized for a more efficient/less cluttered work flow. And I’ve been planning my Button Farm Club Kits and projects for the final quarter of the year.

Dale and I are planning to run away to the beach at the end of this week for some much needed R&R.  I have a post or two scheduled to go live while I am away.  But don’t worry if you don’t hear much from me.  Everything should be back to normal by mid September.  I have some fun stuff in the works for us, and life always seems to settle back to a more normal pace once summer has passed.

I’d love to hear what you all have been up to during these busy weeks.  I’d also love to know what kinds of projects/tutorials you’d like to see me work on. Won’t you please let me know in the comment section below?

Thanks for stopping by!

Hooray! It’s Your Birthday Gift Box

Authentique Hooray Birthday Box Amazing Paper Grace Telephone Vignette Die by Kathy Clement Kathy by Design Photo 01

Authentique Hooray!  It’s Your Birthday Box with APG Telephone Vignette Die

Hello, Friends!  Do you love little boxes?  I have loved them for as long as I can remember, so making this Hooray It’s Your Birthday Box was loads of fun.  My L’il Sis is having a birthday this month, and she loves boxes, too.  This one is filled with lots of little goodies that I think will make her chuckle.  Then, when the goodies are gone she can use the box to store stuff on her work desk.  I love it when a gift just keeps on giving!

Building the Box

Here’s how the box came together:

  • First, cover the lid of an I-Phone box with papers from Authentique’s Hooray Paper Collection.
  • Then, wrap the top edge of the box with washi tape to give it a finished look.
  • Now, adhere some little box feet to the corners.
  • Die cut the Amazing Paper Grace Vignette Telephone from both Spectrum Lady Bug and Hooray patterned papers.  You will need 3 phone bases cut from patterned paper and 2 from the Lady Bug Spectrum paper.
  • Adhere the patterned papers to the Lady Bug papers so that they are slightly offset.  This creates a mat for the base and helps it to pop against the patterned papers.  You will need to cover both the front and back of the phone that is on the back side of the box.
  • Adhere the phones to the box base and fill it up with goodies!

Add ribbon and buttons to the front corners of the box if desired.

A Peek Inside

Fill the box with treats that you know the birthday girl will enjoy. I think my Sis will enjoy the little treats I tucked inside her box.

This shaker tag is so quick to make!

  • First, remove the sticker frame from the sheet and back it with clear cardstock.
  • Trace the outline of the frame onto a piece of patterned paper and trim out.
  • Then add 3 layers of 1/8″ foam strips to the back of the sticker.
  • Fussy cut the sentiment from the 3 x 4 image card.  Save the sassy lady…we’ll use her elsewhere!
  • Mat the fussy cut sentiment on the piece of patterned paper you cut out.
  • Fill the shaker cavity with sequins and beads, then adhere the patterned paper tag over the foam strips.  Press lightly to seal.
  • Trim out the birthday banner from another 3×4 card and adhere.
  • Punch a hole at the top of the tag, add ribbon and a flower.

My sis and I both love tea, so I added this tin of tea to her birthday box along with a little chocolate.  Dressing these little gifts up with designer paper and ribbon really makes them special!

This is a packet of Biscoff cookies to go with the tea.  Create the little birthday wand with a washi tape wrapped popsicle stick and stickers that have been matted on Lady Bug Spectrum Cardstock.

Snarky Birthday Card

The final addition is a little 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ top fold card made with scraps.  I’m crazy for this retro color combination…how about you?

Die cut circles and stars really work with this paper collection.  I can’t wait to give this gift to my sister!

I hope I’ve shared some tips, tricks and ideas you can use in your next crafty adventure.  If so, I’d love to hear from you in the comment section below.
