Little Birdie Crafts Aqua Medley Summertime Blues Double Gatefold Card Tutorial

Hello, Friends!  Today I’m celebrating Summertime Blues with a Double Gatefold Card Tutorial.  Little Birdie Crafts Aqua Medley Collection is filled with dreamy shades of blue, gorgeous florals, sweet summer songbirds and delightful patterns.  I think you’re really going to enjoy this post, and add a new fancy fold design to your crafty toolbox!

The Basics

My favorite kind of fancy fold is the one that makes people say, “How did she do that?” Especially when the answer is, “It’s so easy, you won’t believe it!”  That really is the case with a double gatefold card design.  More than just a card, this 6×6 card doubles as a folio and makes a wonderful gift!

Little Birdie Primed Chipboard creates the perfect base for this gorgeous hydrangea image.  Cluster flowers, butterflies and metal embellishments around the frame to create a truly striking cover.

Look at all this gorgeous texture and dimension.  That makes my heart happy!

A Peek Inside

Opening a double gatefold card is always dramatic! Flap pages, pockets and tags add to the excitement.

Did you know Little Birdie makes a Die Cutting Machine?  I didn’t either, but as soon as I  learned about it, I added it to my tool supplies.  It is amazing!  I used it and Little Birdie Oval Tags Dies to make these precious oval tags for the side pocket.

The large center pocket holds a pull out page in place.

This is a great place to tuck in notes, small gifts and photos.

There’s even a hidden pocket page with just enough room to tuck in a bookmark.

Oh, how I love little birds!  We have a pair of bluebirds that live in our crabapple tree and every time I see them, it makes my heart happy!

The Tutorial

Are you ready to get your craft on?  I’ll begin with a short tour of the project.  Then we will dig in and create this lovely double gatefold card together.  It’s going to be so much fun!

Authentique July Desk Calendar Tutorial

Authentique July Desk Calendar Tutorial

Hello, Friends!  It hardly seems possible, but it’s time to share my Authentique July Desk Calendar Tutorial with you.  This year is really flying by, isn’t it?   If you’re new to the blog, I’ve been sharing a monthly desk calendar made with the Authentique Calendar Collection.  These 6×6 easel style calendars double as a mini folio to hold photos and memories from each month of the year.  Many of you have told me that your are giving these as birthday cards.  I think that is a brilliant idea!

The easel design of each calendar allows it to fold flat for storage.  My hope is that you will pull these out year after year, perhaps adding a new photo or memory as time goes by.

This month I’ve added lots of stars, glitter clothespins and patriotic plaid ribbon to enhance the gorgeous vintage images and patterns.

You’ll find all the usual bells and whistles inside the folio: a July calendar for recording special dates, wallet sized folios, photo  mounts, journaling spots and a nifty hidden pocket folio.

Little Birdie Boho Dreams Secret Summer Garden Card

Little Birdie Boho Dreams Bold Butterfly Garden Double Gatefold Card by Kathy Clement Kathy by Design

Little Birdie Boho Dreams Secret Summer Garden Card

Hello, Friends!  Will you join me for a stroll through my Little Birdie Boho Dreams Summer Garden?  This double gatefold style card is bursting with the saturated colors of summertime! The chipboard gate on this 6″ x 6″ double gatefold card looks like the entry to a secret garden filled with vibrant blooms, sweet berries and flirty butterflies.

Rub the primed chipboard gate with Little Birdie’s Silver Glitz Metallic Wax to give it an aged appearance.  Then fussy cut elements from the Boho Dreams 12×12 and 6×6 paper packs to create a dimensional floral wreath in the center of the gate.  A cool breeze carries the scent of the fragrant blooms and refreshes the spirit.  I would love to sit in this glorious garden forever!

A Peek Inside

So many beautiful colors and patterns wait for you inside this secret garden!

There’s even a secret pocket hidden inside the fold on the right hand side of the card.

This is a great place to tuck in a little bookmark or tag.

When the card is fully opened, you discover a sweet gift pocket.

Mat a 3″ x 4″ journal card on a 3 1/4″ x 8 1/2″ panel of the distressed orange dot pattern.  Score in half to form a little top fold tea wallet.  Cut a border strip, wrap it around the wallet and trim away the excess to form a belly band.  Now the card is also a gift.

I hope you enjoyed this stroll through my secret garden.  If so, I’d love to hear from you in the comment section below.  You’ll also find a linked supply list at the bottom of this post.

Bee Themed Joy Fold Card Tutorial

Bee Themed Joy Fold Card Tutorial with Craft Consortium Tell the Bees for Throwback Thursday

Hello, Friends!  For this installment of Throwback Thursday I have prepared a Bee Themed Joy Fold Card Tutorial.  We’ll be working with Crafty Consortium’s “Tell the Bees” release from 2012.  But you can use whatever papers you have in your stash to make this  fun fold card.

I’ve combined the patterned papers with digital ephemera from Polly’s Paper Studio, Ephemoire Digital Designs and Gecko Galz.

TIP:  File digital images by theme so that they are easy to find when you want to use them.  After I print out a sheet of digital images, I file the extras away in small bags that are sorted by theme and arranged alphabetically.  So all my digital bee images and ephemera are in a bag labeled “BEES.”

Bee Themed Joy Fold Card Tutorial: The Basics

Joy Fold cards have been around for as long as I’ve been making cards.  But I wanted a larger card base that could double as a mini folio.  To make this Joy Fold card we will be combining a 6×6 side fold card base with a 4 1/2″ x 5 12″ side fold card base.  Adhere the smaller card base inside the larger one to form a flap.  It’s a really simple card base to make, but affords lots of room for photos or decoration.

TIP: Enhance the lavender hues in the patterned paper with Lilac Seam Binding Ribbon and flowers.

Add bee images or photos  to the card panels.  You could fit quite a few photos in this mini folio.

You’ll learn how to create this sweet double pocket in the center panel.

This design gives you lots of room for images or photos and journaling.

This 4 1/4 ” x 5 1/4″ tea wallet fits neatly behind the top pocket.  You could easily convert this to a photo folio.

But I turned it into a tea wallet and note card.  A honey stick fits neatly into the card pocket to complete the gift.

If you’d like to take this fancy fold card for a spin, here’s an easy to follow video tutorial for you.

Remember, even if you don’t have these papers in your stash, I’m sure that you have something in your stash that will work beautifully with this fancy fold card base.  You’ll find a linked supply list below the post.

The base for this card is 5 1/2″ x 5 1/2″.  It folds flat for storage, and opens for display.

A few simple folds allow you to create this dynamic display.  I even found room to add in a little pocket and teeny tiny notecard.
