G45 Communique Faux Embossed Leather Mini Album Tutorial for The Funkie Junkie Boutique
Hello, Friends! Welcome to the latest challenge at The Frilly and Funkie Challenge Blog. I’ve created this vintage style G45 Communique Faux Embossed Leather Mini Album Tutorial for the Just My Type Challenge. We’ll take a close look at it in a moment, bur first let’s see what our hostess, the marvelous Jenny Marples has to say about this fun challenge.
Challenge Theme: Just My Type
“As a trained touch typist I love vintage typewriters. I love the way they look and sound and the font they create. For this challenge create a vintage or shabby chic project and include a typewriter, typewriter keys, typeface.”
G45 Communique Faux Embossed Leather Mini Album Tutorial: Sizzix 3-D Texture Fade & Seth Apter Ancient Amber Baked Texture
This 7 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ x 2 3/4″ is “made from scratch” using 12″ x 18″ black cardstock from envelopes.com. I had so much fun creating this faux embossed leather look using my Tim Holtz/Sizzix Botanical 3-D Texture Fade, Seth Apter Ancient Amber Baked Texture and various Distress Paints. (Find links to the products I used below.)
This shot gives you a good idea of the amazing texture that you get when you use these amazing 3D folders. My mixed media cover was inspired by the marvelous Jenny Marples who showed how to create rusty metal in THIS POST. I thought that I could use a similar process to create the look of faux leather. (If you don’t have these 3D texture fades, you can create a similar look using a process I shared HERE and in another tutorial HERE. )
G45 Communique Faux Embossed Leather Mini Album Tutorial: Picture Tour
I’m not going to go into a lot of detail here, as I’ve prepared a video tour of the project where I share lots of tips and techniques. So we’ll just look at the still photos.
One quick note: in addition to the product links below, I also used Little Birdie Crafts Sangria Roslind Roses and 1.5″ Black Plaid Ribbon. Some of my papers are from the original G45 Communique release way back when. The majority are from the newer DCE release.
Black seam binding ribbon makes me think of the old carbon typewriter ribbons.
G45 Communique Faux Embossed Leather Mini Album Tutorial: A Peek Inside
I’m becoming very fond of using stamps against a Distress Stain Background. This Tim Holtz Inventor 1 stamp is perfect for this challenge.
I adore G45 policy envelopes. Decorate quickly by adding chipboard and paper scraps to create the perfect spot to tuck in photos or other memorabilia.
This fussy cut image is colored with Distress Crayon. I used Tim’s Typography Stamps and white pigment ink to add even more type elements to the design.
Y’all know how much I love interactive elements, so I’ve loaded this mini up with flaps, pockets, tags, inserts and waterfalls.
This is a double waterfall page with magnetic closures.
