Graphic 45 Fairie Dust Mini Album Tips and Tricks for 3×3 Craft Basket Challenge

Hello, Friends!  Today I’m sharing a Graphic 45 Fairie Dust Mini Album with Tips and Tricks that you can use in your own crafty adventures.  I created this as a G45 Brand Ambassador Project for a fun 3×3 Craft Basket Challenge.  The challenge was never shared due to time constraints, So today my teammates Katelyn Grosart and Marina Blaukitchen , and I are sharing our projects as a sort of mini blog hop.  I hope you will pop by their blogs to see where their creativity led them in this challenge.  Both are fabulous artists, and I know you will be inspired by their work.

What would you make if you could only work with an 8” x 8” Graphic 45 paper pack, matching Tags and Pockets, the Tag & Pocket Album of your choice and minimal other supplies?  That’s the challenge that 3 G45 Brand Ambassadors faced in this month’s 3×3 Craft Basket Challenge.

For this fun exercise, I chose to work with my 8×8 Fairie Dust Collection, Tags and Pockets.  The Black Butterfly Square Tag & Pocket Album is a natural choice to go with this collection, so I grabbed that from the Closet of Shame and got down to business!

TIP:  Brush the edges of the album with Versamark Embossing Ink.  Then heat emboss the edges with  Stampendous Aged Gold Embossing Powder.  Touches of gold are added throughout the album pages, because…fairies!

TIP:  Frame this dancing fairy image  from the 8″ x 8″ pad with the doily frame from the  Square Pocket and Tag Dies.  To tie in with the gold theme, use metallic gold paper.

TIP: Fussy cut around the fairy wings, then gently slip them up and over the edges of the Square Tag and Clock Dies frame.  Add thin foam dimensionals behind the wings to add lift and dimension to your focal image.

TIP: Did you know you can insert an image inside the antique label on the Tag & Pocket Album?  Simply measure the width and height of the opening, then insert the image through the top edge.  Leftover scraps of borders can be used to embellish the top and bottom of the spine.

Graphic 45 Fairie Dust Mini Album: Stretch your designer papers!

The Butterfly Square Tag & Pocket album contains 18 total cardstock pages: 12 cardstock pages and 6 double sided peek-a-boo pocket pages. Each album also includes 6 sturdy cardstock tags.  People…that is a lot of real estate to cover with one 8” x 8” pad of G45 paper! So I had to get creative.

TIP: Stretch your paper by inking the edges with Decades Dye Ink Pads!  The inks blend beautifully and react to water, creating a wonderful mixed media background for your pages.  I used Precious Pink and French Lilac inks to complement the papers in the Fairie Dust Collection.

TIP:   Mix things up! Cover some pages almost completely, while covering others with very little paper.  Both look beautiful!

TIP: You can stretch your Fairie Dust Tags and Pockets sheet, too! Cut shaped pockets along the fold line.  Then adhere the side tabs as usual. Tuck the “B” side of the pocket inside to serve as a tag or journaling spot.

TIP: Create pockets for cut apart images by adhering just 3 edges of patterned paper to the album base.

TIP: Finish your tags in a flash with the G45 Square Tag and Clock Dies.  Die cut paper to cover the front and back of the tag, then add a simple die cut frame to finish it off beautifully.

The clock face die is gorgeous all on its own as an embellishment.  I’ve added it to the top of this pocket filled with photo mounts.

Really Reasonable Ribbon February Blog Hop:  Graphic 45 Fairie Dust Waterfall Folio

Hello, Ribbon Lovers!  It’s time for the Really Reasonable Ribbon  February Blog Hop.  You should be coming here from Karen’s lovely blog.  Today, I’ve created a “Magical” Graphic 45 Fairie Dust Waterfall Folio using the gorgeous Purple & Green Ribbons from the February Ribbon Club.  They are a perfect match for the Graphic 45 Fairie Dust Collection!

I created a 5.25″ x 7.25″ hardcover folio with a .75″ spine.  The front of the album cover is a Prima Resin frame turned into a shaker element.  I don’t know what it is about this collection, but it just calls out for a shaker element!

The ribbon closure is 1.5″ Emerald Green Gingham. I secured it to the cover using strips of 1/2″ Scor-Tape.

Graphic 45 Fairie Dust Waterfall Folio Fairie Dust by Kathy Clement for RRR Product by Graphic 45 Photo 6This is a very simple folio.  The waterfall feature is on the right and a pocket is on the left.  But don’t be fooled!  There’s lots of room to store photos!

I’ve incorporated belly bands to hold ephemera cards from the collection.

You can score and fold a large horizontal ephemera card to form a flap feature.

This large pocket will easily hold 4″ x 6″ photos.

Add ephemera cards for journaling.

This would be such a fun way to record a child’s birthday party or tea party, don’t you think?

Graphic 45 Fairie Wings Shaker Card Folio

Graphic 45 Fairie Wings Shaker Card Folio for Frilly and Funkie

Hello, Friends!  Welcome to the first Frilly and Funkie Challenge of 2018!  I trust you had a happy and healthy holiday.  Today I’m sharing a Graphic 45 Fairie Wings Shaker Card Folio made with the whimsical new Fairie Dust Collection.  Before we take a look at it, let’s see what Cec, our gracious challenge hostess has to say about the theme for this first challenge of 2018.

Three Is Not a Crowd!

Create a vintage or shabby chic project that includes three of something. Examples of three of something could be three different patterned papers, three colours, three layers, three flowers, three bows – the list goes on. This would be a perfect time to use some of the new supplies you received for Christmas or to make space in your stash by using up old supplies. Just remember to think in multiples of three.

Fairie Wings Shaker Card Folio: The Power of Three

Graphic 45 Fairie Wings Shaker Card Folio Fairie Dust by Kathy Clement Product by Graphic 45 Photo 1

I found a whole host of ways to add threes to this card:

  • Create each layering element with 3 layers: designer paper, dark amethyst and light amethyst cardstock.
  • Cluster flowers in groups of 3.
  • Create a triple layer bow.
  • Add 3 butterflies to the cover of the card.
Fairie Wings Shaker Card Folio: Creating the Shaker Element

To create this shaker element:

  • First die cut 2 Tim Holtz Ornate Frames from chipboard packaging.
  • Then paint one frame with Prima Heavy Black Gesso.
  • Next cover the other frame with embossing ink.
  • Now sprinkle the embossing ink with Emerald Creek Charred Gold Embossing Powder and heat set.

  • Now, glue the black gessoed frame directly to the Fairie Dust ephemera card.
  • Then, place the embossed frame over a sheet of clear acetate cardstock.  Use a sharpie pen to make little marks around the outside edge of the center oval.
  • Next, cut out the acetate using the sharpie marks as a guide. I cut just inside the marks so that they would not show.  The oval does not have to be perfect.  Just slightly larger than the inside of the frame. Glue this acetate to the back side of the gold embossed frame.  Let it dry completely.
Fairie Wings Shaker Card Folio: Stick to It!

Graphic 45 Fairie Wings Shaker Card Folio Fairie Dust by Kathy Clement Product by Graphic 45 Photo 4

This is the laborious, tedious part of making the shaker element. Work on top of the black frame that is glued to the card base.

  • First, carefully place small pieces of foam (foam dots or foam tape) around the inside edge of the frame.  Try to be as careful as you can with placement, as you don’t want the foam to show through the frame.
  • Place a second layer of foam over the first.
  • Next, use a black sharpie pen or alcohol marker to color the tops of the foam.  This will make any little parts that might show less visible.
  • Finally, fill the cavity with your shaker elements.
  • I used Art Institute Dries Clear Glue to attach the two frames together.
  • Use Charred Gold Embossing Powder on the pocket watch, then add the sticker from Fairie Dust Sticker Sheet.
Fairie Wings Shaker Card Folio:  A Peek Inside

I carried the Three is Not a Crowd theme over to the inside of the card folio.  Here’s how:

  • Create 3 pockets (one is hidden)
  • Add 3 little tags in the largest pocket
  • Design a tri fold fold out element for the top half of the card.

Graphic 45 Fairie Wings Shaker Card Folio Fairie Dust by Kathy Clement Product by Graphic 45 Photo 7

The tri fold element is attached to the inside cover with Scor-Tape.  The ribbon closure holds everything together nice and neat. Open the folder to find a series of decorated panels.  There is a tuck spot for three teeny tiny tags.  I used one of the glassine envelopes that Linda ships small charms and turned it into a fairie dust envelope.  And then, there’s the hidden pocket with a little chocolate treat.

Each little tag is adorned with a charm from the Funkie Junkie Boutique.

Two of the tags are made with images from the sticker sheet.
