With Halloween just around the corner, it’s time to get your witches hats on and create a project of your choice in a vintage style with a Halloween theme.

Steampunk Alice!

How fun is this?  The size of this card is huge because I fussy cut the focal image from the 12×12 Deluxe Collector’s Edition.  Standing 8.25″ tall, it has a cutaway front and is loaded with steampunk goodness.

steampunk-alice-halloween-in-wonderland-by-kathy-clement-for-frilly-and-funkie-product-by-graphic-45-photo-5A Halloween sky was created by adding stenciled stars and a little mica spray. This added lots of depth to the image.

steampunk-alice-halloween-in-wonderland-by-kathy-clement-for-frilly-and-funkie-product-by-graphic-45-photo-6Pockets of goodness line the inside of the card.  I mean, really, it’s Halloween so you have to have some treats, right?

steampunk-alice-halloween-in-wonderland-by-kathy-clement-for-frilly-and-funkie-product-by-graphic-45-photo-7Ephemera cards, chocolate, and a tea bag are tucked into a pocket made from a journaling tag. Small photos can be added to the back of each card.

steampunk-alice-halloween-in-wonderland-by-kathy-clement-for-frilly-and-funkie-product-by-graphic-45-photo-8Photo mounts fill the right hand pocket.  Each one contains opens to reveal room for 2 large photos inside, and one on the back.  Even though this is a card, it could easily serve as Halloween decor and a place to save photos from Halloween parties.

G45 Halloween in Wonderland Tea with Alice Table Decor

Graphic 45 Halloween in Wonderland Tea with Alice Table Decor

Hello, G45’ers!  I have been having soooo much fun with my Graphic 45 Halloween in Wonderland goodies!  This month, we were asked to create a dimensional project using 2 Staples boxes to go along with the September #TheDarkSidewithG45  Challenge.  (You can check out the details on that HERE.  There are some fabby prizes up for grabs!) I scrounged around in the Closet of Shame until an idea began to form in my brain: Halloween in Wonderland Tea with Alice Table Decor.

halloween-in-wonderland-tea-with-alice-halloween-in-wonderland-by-kathy-clement-product-by-graphic-45-photo-4Here are the basic details.  I built the base from an 8×8 Matchbox Book.  I had to fill in the window with chipboard, and construct two side pieces to close off the box.  Once the box was covered with paper from the collection, I began to build up a dimensional scene using fussy cut images, an altered bottle, two altered 3×5 Staples Matchboxes and a host of Petaloo flowers.

Tips and Tricks for Halloween in Wonderland Tea With Alice Table Decor

halloween-in-wonderland-tea-with-alice-halloween-in-wonderland-by-kathy-clement-product-by-graphic-45-photo-4Let’s talk about the rusty tea table in this little tableau.  Now that was fun to build!  I had a 4″ diameter bottle cap and a couple of salvaged empty thread spools lurking in the Closet of Shame.  These were painted with a light coat of gesso to create a little tooth, then altered them using Prima Rust Paste.

halloween-in-wonderland-tea-with-alice-halloween-in-wonderland-by-kathy-clement-product-by-graphic-45-photo-5What does the Mad Hatter use for a tablecloth?  How about a chipboard spider web painted with Black Soot Distress Ink and Clear Rock Candy Distress Paint? Dinner plates are chipboard buttons from the HIW collection.  I found tiny cutlery in my embellie cart.  Napkins?  Rolled Purple Glitz Ribbon tied with Black Burlap String.  Centerpiece?  Mini pumpkins painted with Clear Rock Candy Crackle Distress Paint!  The cute teacup charms were tapped with Eggplant Alcohol ink.  And do you spy the Steampunk Doily carpet?  How fun is that?

Stand Up and Be Counted

halloween-in-wonderland-tea-with-alice-halloween-in-wonderland-by-kathy-clement-product-by-graphic-45-photo-2To make these fussy cut images stand up, scrap pieces of cardstock were cut to measure about 1″ wide.  They were scored in the center, then one side was glued to the back of the image and the other glued to the box base.  I used the edge of a pencil to gently curve the shape of the images before adding the little hinges.

Drink Me: Altered Bottle

halloween-tea-with-alice-halloween-in-wonderland-by-kathy-clement-product-by-graphic-45-photo-8The Closet of Shame housed this tall skinny Olive Oil Bottle.  It was just the perfect shape and size to serve as Alice’s infamous Drink Me Potion Bottle.  Once again, Clear Rock Candy Distress Paint was put into action to give the bottle a creepy, spiderwebby, magic potion look.  Then I added some borders, Pretty Petaloo Flowers, Ribbon, Clock Hands and the wonderful focal image.  This is why I have a Closet of Shame, people!  What if I had not saved this bottle?  Perish the thought!

The Mad Hatter’s Tea and Cookies

halloween-tea-with-alice-halloween-in-wonderland-by-kathy-clement-product-by-graphic-45-photo-6You can’t have a Halloween in Wonderland Tea with Alice unless you have some tea and cookies, right?  These 3×5 matchboxes were covered with designer paper and fussy cut images from the collection.  I added tea bags to one box and cookies to the other.  The boxes are not glued down so that the tea and cookies can easily be removed.  They flank the altered bottle on either side.

Halloween in Wonderland Tea Pots

halloween-tea-with-alice-halloween-in-wonderland-by-kathy-clement-product-by-graphic-45-photo-7A friend gave me these cute porcelain napkin rings and of course, I put them in the Closet of Shame.  They were dressed up for this tea party with the help of Ranger Alcohol Inks.  (Eggplant and Pesto) Chipboard Spiderwebs, spiders and mini pumpkins fill the center.

Another Drink Me Potion Bottle

halloween-tea-with-alice-halloween-in-wonderland-by-kathy-clement-product-by-graphic-45-photo-10Just like the story goes, there is a second bottle of “Drink Me” potion.  This time, it’s green glitter in a small glass vial.  It looks harmless enough doesn’t it?

Pumpkins and Posies

halloween-tea-with-alice-halloween-in-wonderland-by-kathy-clement-product-by-graphic-45-photo-9This festive cluster of pumpkins and posies adds a pop of color to the composition.  The pumpkin was, you guessed it, painted with Clear Rock Candy Distress Paint.  After the paint dried, I drizzled Pesto Alcohol Ink onto the surface.

Halloween in Wonderland Tea with Alice Video Tour

Sometimes, it’s easier to get the flow of a piece when you see a video. This one is very short (under 3 minutes) but you might catch some details that are missed in the photos.  I hope you enjoy!

So, what do you have lurking in your Closet of Shame?  Why not dig it out and make something fabulous to share it with us at #TheDarkSidewithG45 Challenge?  I can’t wait to see what you make!

Going Round in Circles with Halloween in Wonderland

Going Round in Circles with Halloween in Wonderland for Frilly and Funkie

Hello Friends!  It’s time for another wonderful challenge at the Frilly and Funkie Blog.  This time around the lovely Sue is our hostess and she has set the theme Going Round in Circles.  Here’s what she has to say about this challenge:

Challenge Theme: Going round in circles – Including circles in my projects is one of my favourite things to do, so for this challenge I want to see circles, lots of circles, not just one ! Stencilled, stamped or even a circular project such as a wreath !

Circular elements really do add a lot of visual interest to a project.  With Halloween peeking around the corner, I pulled out my Graphic 45 Deluxe Collector’s Edition of Halloween in Wonderland and started going round in circles!

halloween-in-wonderland-card-halloween-in-wonderland-by-kathy-clement-for-frilly-and-funkie-going-round-in-circles-challenge-product-by-graphic-45-photo7Let’s see how many different ways I’m Going Round in Circles

  1. The focal image is a circle
  2. Circular frame around the focal miage
  3. Background paper and ribbon both have polka dots
  4. My embossed background has a circular motif
  5.  White Rabbit’s pocket watch is a circle
  6. The 2 O’s in BOO are both circular
  7. Spiderwebs in the black ribbon have a circular shape.

Yes, indeed…I think this card is definitely going round in circles!

Fun with Grit Paste

halloween-in-wonderland-card-halloween-in-wonderland-by-kathy-clement-for-frilly-and-funkie-going-round-in-circles-challenge-product-by-graphic-45-photo-5

The most fun I had in making this card was adding the stenciled background.  I don’t have a lot of stencils, but I found this one from Dreamweaver’s in my stash.  Since I had just procured some Distress Grit paste, I was anxious to have a play with it.

halloween-in-wonderland-card-halloween-in-wonderland-by-kathy-clement-for-frilly-and-funkie-going-round-in-circles-challenge-product-by-graphic-45-photo-4

I added some Aged Purple Embossing Powder to the grit paste while it was still wet, and then heat embossed it to create a spooky Halloween sky.  Then I die cut gold glitter paper using Tim’s Crescent Moon and Stars die .

halloween-in-wonderland-card-halloween-in-wonderland-by-kathy-clement-for-frilly-and-funkie-going-round-in-circles-challenge-product-by-graphic-45-photo-6I added a pocket and ephemera card to the inside.  Plenty of room here to write a little note or tuck in a Halloween treat.

Now it’s YOUR turn!  Create your own vintage or shabby chic project that follows the theme Going Round in Circles and link it up on the Frilly and Funkie Blog before midnight on Tuesday, October 4th.

The team will choose their top four picks with the winner being invited to join us in a Guest DT spot at Frilly and Funkie and the next three will receive badges to display on their blogs.
