Heartfelt Creations January Alumni Hop: Raindrops on Roses Birthday Card Tutorial
Hello, Friends! Welcome to the January Alumni Hop! You should have come here from Alissa’s lovely blog. I’ll include a complete blog hop list at the end of this post. Today I have a purplicious Raindrop on Roses Birthday Card tutorial to share with you. I used the Raindrops on Roses Paper Collection, Classic Rose Stamps and Dies, Border Essentials Dies and Deluxe Flower Shaping Tool Kit from Heartfelt Creations to make this card. Adding gorgeous purple plaid ribbon from Really Reasonable Ribbon really made this pretty card pop!
This top fold card is 5″ wide x 7″ tall and contains two pockets on the inside. I’ve prepared a SnapGuide tutorial with step by step instructions and a complete supply list for making this card.

Let’s Look at the Details
Purple gingham ribbon is the perfect playmate for the purple and green color palette found in the Raindrops on Roses Collection. Adding in loopy string bows made from metallic silver really amped up the glam factor on this card.
After stamping, heat embossing, die cutting, coloring and shaping my flowers, I painted them with Ranger Clear Rock Candy Distress Crackle Paint. It’s hard to pick up in the photos, but it creates a really cool, crackled vintage finish on the flowers. This also helps to protect them, so it’s definitely worth the time it takes to do this step.
Use a craft knife to create this corner pocket. I just traced around the outline on the designer paper and then inserted my matted sentiment into the slit.
Trace around rose petals and leaves with Art Institute Dries Clear Adhesive, then sprinkle with super fine glitter. The subtle sparkle this creates is lovely.
What’s in Your Pocket?
Pockets add a fun, interactive element to any card. Here, I’ve added a small pocket to the top and a standard sized pocket to the bottom. The top pocket is made with an ATC journaling card from the paper collection.
Journaling cards are topped with tiny tags that I tied on with more silver metallic string. You can easily write little personal messages on these cards, then tuck them in the pocket. Imagine how fun it will be to pull them out and read. Oh, and there’s chocolate, too!
The bottom pocket contains larger card fronts that I’ve matted on cardstock. Photos can be mounted on the back. To turn this card into a gift, just add a little gift card! Shopping’s done!
