Graphic 45 Flower Market March Folio Tutorial Part 1

Graphic 45 Flower Market March Folio Tutorial Part 1 for Make & Take Tuesday

Hello, Friends!  Don’t panic…but it’s already time to share my Graphic 45 Flower Market March Folio Tutorial Part 1.  March?  Yes, March!  Time and tide wait for no man, so I wanted to get this tutorial out to you so you can have it made before the calendar page turns.  This is the 2nd installment in our year-long 2023 calendar project.  If  you missed the January/February folios, you can find them HERE.

Just look at these gorgeous daffodils!  It may be hard to believe right now, but soon we will see those golden heads popping up from the soil and brightening the landscape.  They are Spring’s cheeriest bloom, in my opinion.

Our tutorial this week will focus on creating the folio base and designing the cover.  I made a few improvements to the design this month, and I feel the folio base is even better than before.  The second installment of this tutorial will be available in our Throwback Thursday post this week.  So you can get your base and cover made today and tomorrow, then be ready for the interior on Thursday.

A Peek Inside

Here’s a sneak peek to whet your appetite.  Flower Market is a gorgeous collection, but somewhat limited, in my opinion.  With just one patterned paper and just one cut apart page, it begs to be filled out with other patterns.  So once again, I searched through the Closet of Inspiration and Delight looking for papers that would flow well with the base collection.

If you look closely at the floral pattern, you will spy small touches of purple.  I decided to add purple and yellow/gold patterns from a few different paper collections to fill out the pages of this folio.  You can find out what I used in the supply list below.

Now, if you don’t have these papers, don’t panic!  Look through your stash and I bet you will find papers that will work just as well,  Pay attention to color palettes and patterns.  I tried to avoid strong seasonal patterns and stuck to more generic themes when choosing my papers. I really like the way this folio turned out.  It feels like springtime on paper!

If you’d like to see a full preview of the folio, learn how to build the improved folio base, and design the cover with me, then I hope you’ll enjoy Part 1 of this tutorial.

Remember, I’ll be back on Thursday with the remainder of the tutorial.  I also have a cheery country fresh card to share with you tomorrow.  So lots of good things to look forward to!

Photoplay Showers & Flowers Slimline Waterfall Card Tutorial for Make & Take Tuesday

Hello, Friends!  It’s grey, cold and gloomy here in North Carolina, so I thought we’d make this cheery Photoplay Showers & Flowers Slimline Waterfall Card today.  Let’s face it: sometimes  you have to make your own sunshine!  This vibrant new collection is the perfect way to chase away the winter blues!

This 3 5/8″ x 8 5/8″ slimline card base is made with Photoplay’s new Slimline Waterfall Card Kit.  What an easy way to  make a waterfall card! Although the card kit features the waterfall on the outside of the card, I decided to turn things “inside out.”  If you join me for the tutorial, you’ll see how simple Photoplay has made it to construct this kinetic card.

What do you say we make this sweet springtime card together?  You can follow along in this YouTube video tutorial.

There are no daffodils in my part of the world yet, but I do see the buds on our plum tree growing fatter with each passing day.  And, there are Robins in the back yard, so spring cannot be too terribly far behind.  Until it arrives, I’ll think I’ll keep this paper collection handy!

Photoplay DIY Home Edition Masculine Card Tutorial for Make & Take Tuesday

Hello, Friends!  Today we’re taking a little break from holiday creations to share this cute Photoplay DIY Home Edition Masculine Card Tutorial with you.  Welcome to Make & Take Tuesday!  Our “soon to be” son-in-law just had a birthday, and this collection could not be a more perfect match!  He’s a really clever, handy and handsome fella with no end of good ideas, talents and abilities.  I had so much fun creating this special card for his birthday that I thought you might like to see how it came together.

Photoplay Paper-Easel Card Kit-DIY Home Edition Collection-Kathy Clement-Kathy by Design

This 5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″ double Z-Fold card base calls for a bit of paper engineering and “out of the box” thinking.  But no worries!  I’ve done all of that for you!  I started with Photoplay’s new Easel Card Kit.  Instead of making a standard easel card, which is one of my favorite designs, I saw how easy it would be to change up the fold just a little in order to make a fabulous fun fold card folio.  I’ll show  you how in the video tutorial below.

Hidden Pocket Card Folio

The cool thing about this card design is the addition of a hidden pocket/flap feature on the inside.  This makes for a fun surprise, and also adds room for more fun “stuff” inside the card.

Chris chuckled when he saw the “I’ve got the tool for that” ephemera on the hidden pocket insert.  “That’s true,” is what he said.  Did I feel like I was winning?  Oh, yes, I did!

Two Pockets Are Better Than One!

In addition to the hidden pocket/pull out page, I created a little gift card pocket in the center of this card folio.  You can never have too many pockets, right?

This is such a great masculine paper collection, especially when you have a handyman on your card making list!   And, you can use the engineered card base with any collection from your stash to change up the theme.  How great is that?

November Gnome of the Month Folio Tutorial with Photoplay Year with My Gnomies

Hello, Friends!  Can you believe that it’s already time for me to share our November Gnome of the Month Folio Tutorial?  Where has this year gone?  November means Thanksgiving in the USA.  And Thanksgiving just happens to be my favorite holiday.  Our gnomes this month seem pretty excited about the holiday, too.  How cute is that little Pilgrim gnome?  And do I spy turkey and pumpkin pie?  I believe I do!

Our shaker box this month is a gorgeous Reneabouquets Layered Pumpkin.  I’ll show you how to put it together in the video tutorial below.

Pops of teal in the ribbons and flowers pick up on the teals from the paper collection.  It makes for a warm and cozy feeling paired up with the russet tones of our pumpkin shaker box.

I even managed to find a teal pumpkin in my stash!

If you are new to my blog, or haven’t seen this year-long series, you can find the previous 9 tutorials HERE.

A Peek Inside

Just like the previous folios, this one is filled with flips, flaps,  pockets and mini folios.

Just think how fun it will be to fill this folio up with photos of your family Thanksgiving!  These memories are the things we will cherish all our lives, and it’s so nice to have a spot to capture them!

Mermaid Garden Shaker Card Tutorial

Reneabouquets By the Sea Collection Blue Fern Seaside Cottage Shaker Card by Kathy Clement Photo 01

Mermaid’s Garden Shaker Card Tutorial with Reneabouquets & Blue Fern

Hello, Friends!  I’m moving a bit slow after a very busy Memorial Day Weekend, but I wanted to pop in quickly to share this Mermaid Garden Shaker Card Tutorial with you.  We had company last week from Thursday through Monday morning.  Breakfast yesterday on the screen porch with our dear friends was beyond delightful.  Once they hit the road for home, I got the house set back in order, started the laundry and popped into the studio to put this Tuesday Tutorial together.

Reneabouquets By the Sea Collection

I probably should have just taken the rest of the day off, but I was so excited to dig into the new Reneabouquets By the Sea Collection that I forged ahead.  I’d received this lovely set in my last order from the shop, and had been itching to play with it.  This 5 1/2″ x 7 1/2″ top fold card is the final result.

Copper and aqua is one of my favorite color combinations, so all the elements in this collection made me super happy!  Here’s how the cover of this Mermaid’s Garden came together:

  • First, adhere a layer of Sea Shell Lace on the bottom 1/4″ of the prepared card base.
  • Then, heat emboss the square Seashell Beautiful Board Frame with WOW! Vintage Peacock Embossing Powder.
  • Next, adhere clear cardstock (acetate sheet) to the back side of the frame.
  • Now, adhere 3 rows of 1/8″ foam tape around the inside edges of the frame.
  • Fill the frame with By the Sea Beautiful Beads, Itty Bitty Starfish, and a sequin mix.
  • Then cut a 4 1/2″ square of designer paper from Blue Fern’s Seaside Cottage collection.  Add ephemera to the center of the panel and use it as the backer for the shaker frame.
  • Next, place foam tape on the back of the By the Sea Mermaid and adhere in the lower right hand corner.

Embellish the frame with the Sea Glass Glass Wing Butterfly, By the Sea Mulberry Flowers and Leaves and more Beautiful Beads.  Brush the flowers lightly with Stamperia’s Gold Dew Glamour Gel.

A Peek Inside

Do you spy these darling aqua seahorses?  They are part of the By the Sea Collection, too!

The trinkets on this bookmark are also part of the By the Sea Collection.  So perfect for summer/beach themed projects!

There’s even a sea horse hiding inside the flap page where you’ll find this gift card pocket.

If you’d like to see me work on this beachy creation, please enjoy this short video tutorial.

I think I was more tired than I realized, because at one point, I just stopped talking entirely!  So as a consolation prize, I added lots of Dale’s pretty music to entertain you.  You will probably also notice that I changed some things up after I finished the video.  I came in fresh and rested this morning, and added more Beautiful Beads to the bottom of the card, brushed the flowers with glimmer gel, and removed the trinkets from the floral cluster.  All good choices, I think!
