Prima Amber Moon Thankful Heart Tri-Fold Folio

Tammy Tutterow Creative Crew Friday: Prima Amber Moon Thankful Heart Folio

Hello, Friends! Yes, I know it’s Thursday…but to avoid double posting, I decided to share my Tammy Tutterow Creative Crew post today. When you see this Thankful Heart Folio made with Prima’s glorious Amber Moon collection, I think you’ll forgive me.

This lovely little folio is about the size of a clutch wallet, measuring just 4.25″ x 7″. It all started when I was cleaning up my work desk and ran across a piece of folded brown cardstock. Rather than toss it in my scrap pile, I decided to make it up into a card…which then became a folio. You just never know where a project is going to take you. I have learned to follow along.

The folio has a ribbon closure.

Felt flowers. How I love them! These are created with the following Tammy Tutterow flower dies:

Nothing But Love for Thankful Heart Folio Shabby Chic background

Here’s how to create the background panel for the cover:

First, cut a 4″ X 6.75″ panel of wood grain patterned paper from Prima’s Amber Moon 12×12 collection
Next, stamp Nothing But Love Background with Versamark Embossing Ink.
Then, heat emboss with super fine copper embossing powder.
Now, machine stitch around the edges. Use messy stitching like I did here, or keep it neat and tidy. It’s up to you.
Next, distress the edges and ink with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.
Then, ink up the panel with Spiced Marmalade, Fossilized Amber, Candied Apple, Twisted Citron and Wilted Violet Distress Oxide Inks. Spritz heavily and tip the paper to let the ink run.
Now heat dry until it is still a tiny bit damp.
Then emboss with Tammy’s Blistered Embossing Folder. Before running through your machine, rub Vintage Photo Distress Ink directly onto the flat side of the embossing folder. Then lay your paper panel over the raised side of the folder. By doing this, you will impress the ink into the paper. It’s a very cool effect.
Next, heat dry the paper panel completely.
Finally, rub a barely damp paper towel over the embossed stamped areas to refresh the shine. I actually had to gently reheat with my tool.
Now it’s ready to glue to the folio cover.

Thankful Heart Folio Cover Art

The cover art for this album is from a Gecko Galz collage sheet called Be Thankful for Fall. I printed them out, inked the edges and/or matted them then layered them up on the cover. The circular image is glued to a Prima die cut doily. I raised it up with waste cardboard from a shipping box . This way, I could tuck a little surprise behind it. Read on to find out about that!

From My Heart Tabbed Mini Pocket

What is it about little things that makes us go “awwwww.” That’s exactly how I feel every time I use one of Tammy’s Mini Pockets. Here’s how I put this Tabbed Mini Pocket together:

First, die cut the Tabbed Mini Pocket from Amber Moon paper.
Then ink around all the edges, front and back, with Vintage Photo DI.
Now score the fold lines and glue the pocket together.
Add a bitty posy to the envelope flap along with an acorn charm and a bit of fiber.
Next, use Archival Coffee Ink to stamp “From My Heart” sentiment from Sentiments 2 Stamp set. I stamped with my Tim Holtz Stamp Platform so I could repeat stamp until the image was dark and bold.
Cut out, notch corners, ink edges and mat on brown cardstock.
Then slip behind the doily and attach with a mini clothespin.

Inside this Thankful Heart Folio

Here’s a look at the first opening. There’s a side pocket on the left and a fold out page on the right.

The side pocket holds this magnet that I made with Tammy’s Rejoice Shading Stamp from Happy Grams #4 . After stamping, embossing, and inking, I colored the images with Distress Markers. Then I stitched a magnet between the image and a cardstock mat. I’ve adorned the magnet with Bitty Posies and Posie Part felt flowers. I also used Shortie Tabs to make some little banner flags from designer paper scraps.

Blessed and Framed

I framed this butterfly ephemera card with Tammy’s Rose Border Stamp. Here’s how that worked:

First, cut a piece of the polka dot paper from Amber Moon that is slightly larger than the stamp.
Stamp the image with Versamark Embossing Ink and heat emboss with Superfine Copper Embossing Powder.
Heat Set.
To cut the inside of the stamped image, I placed my ruler on a diagonal line from top left to bottom right corner. Then use a craft knife to cut a straight line. Repeat this process from Top right to bottom left.
Next, place the ruler at the base of one of the resulting triangles. Cut out one flap.
Now that one flap is removed, you can fussy cut around the inside of the frame.
Next, ink up Big Cheesecloth and Dear Ruby with Coffee Archival Ink/Peeled Paint Distress Oxide Ink. Do not place the stamps on a block. Just roll a random section lightly over the ink pad, then roll randomly over the white portions of the Blessed ephemera card. Ink the edges.
Now, back the fussy cut frame with small strips of foam tape and place over the ephemera card. Glue in place.

Die cut the smallest Prim Heart from felt and layer up with felt flowers to decorate the sentiment panel.

Thankful Heart Folio: The Grand Opening

Here’s a peek at the fully opened folio.

The center panel holds this pretty 3.5″ x 6″ art tag. I’ve used another Prim Heart embellishment here.

There’s a sweet little chocolate/gift card wallet in the panel on the far right.

I don’ t know about you…but I’m grateful for chocolate…and so many other good things.

You’ve Been Booed Halloween Shaker Box for Frilly and Funkie Trick or Treat Challenge

Hello, Friends! Are you ready for Halloween? I created this super cute You’ve Been Booed Halloween Shaker Box for the Trick or Treat Challenge over on the Frilly and Funkie Blog. We’ll take a look at it in just a second, but first let’s see what our hostess, the sensational Suzz, has to say about this fun challenge.

Challenge Theme: Trick Or Treat

I challenge you to create a vintage or shabby chic project with a trick or treat. If you are feeling funkie you might want to incorporate a trick in your design or if you are feeling frilly you can incorporate a treat. The trick or treat can be anything from a hidden pocket, unexpected design element, a treat hidden in the card or an unusual technique used on your project. Make sure to include in your blog post a description of your trick or treat!

You’ve Been Booed Halloween Shaker Box and Treat

In our area, grown ups enjoy Halloween by playing You’ve Been Booed. Sometimes called “Ghosting” or “the Phantom”, the Halloween BOO is an Autumn take on “Secret Santa” or May baskets. Usually seen in neighborhoods–but sometimes in the workplace–BOO-ing is a friendly tradition for Halloween fun.

To start a Halloween BOO, one neighbor secretly leaves a small gift basket, a BOO poem, BOO instructions and a BOO sign at a neighbor’s doorstep.

The lucky BOO-ee is asked to post the sign near the door, alerting others that “We’ve Been BOO-ed!” That way, new BOO recruits won’t leave a duplicate BOO on the doorstep.

In turn, the neighbor is asked to BOO two other households, leading to a chain reaction–and Halloween fun.

I thought it would be fun to create a little “boo box” for my next door neighbor as she looooves Halloween.

You’ve Been Booed Halloween Shaker Box: Prepping the Box

This cute little brie box was lurking in a dark corner of the Closet of Shame. It seemed the perfect vessel for my Boo Box. I created the shaker top with a little vintage image that I received in an order from The Funkie Junkie Boutique. (Linda, the owner, always includes a cute little thank you package with every order. )

Here’s how to prepare the Boo Box.

First, ink all the edges of the brie box with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.
Next, trace the cover and base onto patterned paper from Prima’s Amber Moon Collection.
Then cover the lid, inside and out with the cut out papers.
Now, ine the inside base as well.
Then, run Scor-Tape around the outside edge of the box and cover with Prima Amber Moon Washi tape. The Scor-Tape helps hold the washi tape in place.

You’ve Been Booed Halloween Shaker Box: Building the Shaker Element

Building the shaker top took a little time and patience. And oh, the glitter storm that filled my studio. Heres how I did it:

First, die cut a Tim Holtz Pocket Watch Frame from medium weight chipboard.
Then cut it a two more Pocket Watch frames from Prima Amber Moon paper of your choice.
Next, cut a 4″ square of clear acetate cardstock. You can always use clear packaging if you have some on hand.
Now, ink the edges of the chipboard with Black Soot Distress Ink.
Next, ink the edges of the designer paper with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.
Then use a craft knife to cut out the center portion of one pocket watch frame. Ink the edges.
Now, glue the whole pocket watch frame to the chipboard base.
Next, cut thin strips of foam tape and adhere it all along the edges. You do not want any gaps.
Now, glue the clear acrylic circle to the back side of the open pocket watch frame. I used binder clips to hold it in place until dry.
Then, glue the vintage image to the base section of the pocket watch frame.
Next fill the center portion of the base with sequins, small beads, glitter…whatever you like. Be sure NOT to overfill. Less is more.
Peel the backing strips off the foam tape strips and press the dome cover in place. Use binder clips if needed.
Next,run a bead of Art Institute Dries Clear adhesive around the edge of the pocket watch frame, filling in any small gaps.
Dust the glue with Vintage Platinum Distress Glitter.
Repeat this step around the plastic dome area.
Finally, tie ribbon around the stem of the pocket watch and use hot glue to attach to the box cover.

You’ve Been Booed Halloween Shaker Box: Finishing Touches

Die cut Tattered Florals and Tattered Leaves from Amber Moon patterned paper. I dipped mine in a lovely puddle of Spiced Marmalade, Wilted Violet, Seedless Preserves, Frayed Burlap and WIld Honey Distress Oxide Inks before shaping and stacking. Fill the centers with mustard seeds and spatter with Walnut Ink Stain. Attach to the box top along with a little tag made from scraps.

Halloween Night Etcetera Tag with Prima Amber Moon

Halloween Night Etcetera Tag for Frilly and Funkie ‘Tis Near Halloween Challenge

Hello, Friends! Time for a new challenge over on the Frilly and Funkie blog. I’ve created this spook-tacular Halloween Night Etcetera Tag to go along with the challenge theme set by the frightfully fabulous Sara Emily. Before we take a look at the tag, let’s see what Sara has to say about this fun challenge.

Challenge Theme: ‘Tis Near Halloween

It’s no secret. I.Love.Halloween. With Halloween just a few weeks away, I challenge you to create a vintage or shabby chic project with a Halloween theme. If Halloween isn’t your thing, that’s OK–just be sure to include orange, black and purple in your vintage or shabby chic project (These colors are not required if your theme is Halloween.) It would be a grave mistake to miss this challenge!

Prima Amber Moon Shines on this Halloween Night Etcetera Tag

After giving this challenge some thought, I decided to try to take this Halloween Night Etcetera Tag in a shabby chic direction. So I pulled out my beloved Prima Amber Moon collection, a Tim Holtz small Etcetera tag, a huge stack of Sizzix Alterations Dies, and a pile of mixed media goodies and had myself a little Halloween party right in my studio.

Even though this is a small Etcetera tag, it is still huge, measuring a generous 5.5″ x 10″. This gave me lots and lots of room to create this gloriously ghoulish Halloween Night Scene.

Halloween Night Etcetera Tag: Prepping the Base

If you’ve never worked with one of these wonderful Etcetera tags, I have to tell you…they are devilishly delightful. Made with thickboard, they provide a thick, sturdy surface that just begs to be altered and embellished. Here are the steps you need to take to prepare the tag base.

First, paint the outer edges and sides of the tag with Prima Heavy Black Gesso.
Next, while the gesso is still wet, sprinkle the edges with Emerald Creek Charred Gold Embossing Powder.
Now heat set the powder and dry the gesso layer.
Next trim out a panel of 12″ x 12″ Amber Moon black/orange dot paper so that it is about 1/2″ smaller than the tag base.
Then distress the edges heavily and ink with Vintage Photo Distress Ink before gluing onto the tag base.
Now, tear a rectangle of 12″ x 12″ Amber Moon woodgrain paper to approximately 4.25″ x 5.5″. The rougher the edges, the better!
Next, use the Tim Holtz Birch Layering Stencil and Vintage Photo Ink to create a shadowy woodsy background on the woodgrain paper.
Then, apply Ranger Opaque Crackle Texture paste through the same stencil and set aside to dry. As the texture paste dries, it will not only crackle, it will allow the Vintage Photo Distress Ink to bleed through, creating a really creepy Halloween woods effect. To enhance this, once the paste was completely dry, I sponged it very lightly with Black Soot DI.
Finally, glue this panel in place on the tag.

Halloween Night Etcetera Tag: Creating the Creepy Moon and Owl

Next, we will prepare the creepy moon, woodland owl and distressed stars.

Die cut the Ornate Owl from brown cardstock.
Glue the die cut owl to a piece of Amber Moon paper. I used the pattern that looks like marble.
Ink along the edges with Black Soot Distress Ink.
Sprinkle with Distress Embossing Powders…not a lot…just a touch spread randomly around the surface. I used Frayed Burlap, Vintage Photo and Scattered Straw.
Heat Emboss. Glue in place.
Die cut Tim’s Crescent Moon and stars twice: once from medium weight chipboard, once from black cardstock.
Ink the edges of the chipboard with Black Soot Distress Ink.
Paint the black cardstock moon and stars with Prima Antique Silver Crackle Texture Paste.
While the texture paste is still wet, cover the moon liberally with Emerald Creek Hammered Metal Embossing Powder. Heat Emboss. The result is amazing. I got so excited at this point I could not stand my bad self.
While the texture paste is still wet, place stars in a funnel tray or on a sheet of plain paper and sprinkle liberally with Vintage Platinum Distress Glitter. Tap off the excess and put it back in the jar. Set aside to dry. Some of the glitter will release as the texture paste dries and the finished effect is really cool. Trust me.
Finally, glue the stars and moon to the prepared die cut chipboard pieces. I backed the moon with waste chipboard to elevate it.

Halloween Night Etcetera Tag: Cats and Bats and Jack-o-Lanterns

Now you will die cut the Hocus Pocus elements (cat, bat and witch hat) from both chipboard and black cardstock just as you did the Crescent Moon and stars.

For the Jack-o-Lanterns, die cut Amber Moon Diagonal Stripe paper and chipboard. Ink all the edges with Black Soot DI.
Next, add Spiced Marmalade and Wild Honey Distress Oxide Inks to a non stick craft sheet.
Spritz with water until the ink beads up.
Dip the Amber Moon paper into the inky puddle until you like the way it looks.
Heat dry.
Dip more of the marble pattern Amber Moon paper into this same inky puddle.
Heat Dry
Spray liberally with Perfect Pearls Sunflower Sparkle Mist
Heat Dry
Glue paper pumpkins and chipboard pumpkins together.
Back with the prepared paper and trim.
I lined the mouth, eyes and nose with Art Institute Dries Clear Adhesive and sprinkled in some Gourd-juss Prills for accent.
Add waste chipboard to the back side to elevate and glue in place on the tag.

Halloween Night Etcetera Tag: Finishing Touches

To finish off this shabby chic Halloween tag, I die cut Tim’s Tattered Florals and Tattered leaves from an assortment of Amber Moon papers. Then I colored them with Wilted Violet, Fossilized Amber, Spiced Marmalade, Frayed Burlap and Seedless Preserves Distress Oxide Inks. The flowers are shaped and layered then filled with mustard seeds.

I also custom dyed a long piece of seam binding ribbon for the bow.

Phew! That was a long post…I hope you didn’t faint!

Frilly and Funkie Show Us Your Stamps Challenge: Fall in Love Reversible Pocket Tag

Hello, Friends! It’s time for another fun challenge over on the Frilly and Funkie Challenge Blog. This go round, the lovely and talented Autumn is our hostess and the theme is “Show Us Your Stamps.” I broke out some of my favorite Tammy Tutterow stamps to create this Fall in Love Reversible Pocket Tag, but before I share it with you, let’s see what Autumn has to say about the challenge guidelines.

Challenge Theme: Show Us Your Stamps

Our challenge this round can be summed up with one word – STAMPS! We want to see you break out those stamps and get inky. There are so many ways to use stamps, and you probably have a few you have never even used – so come play along! We cannot wait to see your stamped vintage or shabby chic creations.

Fall in Love Reversible Tag with Prima Amber Moon and Distress Inks

It was pure inky good fun to work up this jumbo manila tag with Prima’s Amber Moon Paper Collection, Tammy Tutterow’s Stamps and Tim Holtz Distress Inks. I did not take step x step photos for this project, but I will share tips and tricks that I used along the way. Anyway, this is the front side of the tag….

….And this is the reverse side with the pocket. Now, let’s get down to the details.

Fall in Love Reversible Pocket Tag: Creating the Background

Begin by “smooshing” fall colored Distress Oxide Inks onto a non-stick craft sheet. The colors should be close together, but should not overlap.
Next, use a Distress Sprayer (or mister bottle) to add water to the inks until the inks begin to bead up.
Now, take the jumbo manila tag and lay it face down into the puddle of ink. I did not swipe the tag at this point. Instead, I just gently smoothed the back side.
Next, lift the tag from the inky puddle and heat until it is mostly dry.
Repeat this process until you are happy with the background ink. The important thing to remember is to dry between layers.
Look for little beads of ink and pick them up to add interesting layers to the tag.
I did swipe the tag through the ink toward the end, and it left lovely streaks.
Finally, spray Antique Brass Mica Spray onto the craft sheet and tap the tag into it. This will create lovely little sparkly flecks on the tag.

Let’s Stamp!

When it came to stamping the background, I did not use an acrylic block or stamp press, I just rolled a random area of the Big Cheesecloth Background Stamp over my Frayed Burlap Distress Ink pad. Then I randomly rolled it over the inky background. This added the lovely little dots of color and texture that you can see in this photo.

Next, i stamped Tammy’s “Make Today” sentiment with a Memento Tuxedo Black Ink Pad and heat embossed it with clear embossing powder. Then I colored the open areas in with an alcohol ink marker.

I felt the sentiment needed a frame to anchor it to the tag. So I stamped Tammy’s Simple Line Border Stamp onto manila card. Next, I heat embossed it with super fine copper embossing powder. Then I colored it in with DOX inks and cut it out with my craft knife. Finally, the frame was backed with foam tabs to pop it up a bit.

This small rusted heart is stamped with Dear Ruby, then heat embossed with super fine copper embossing powder. I love the way this turned out!

Before you add the flowers and other embellishments, I recommend you complete the reverse side of the tag!

Fall in Love Reversible Pocket Tag: The Flip Side

To decorate the pocket on the back of the tag, I stamped and colored Tammy’s Sunflower Bunch . The little sentiment title is from Tammy’s Sentiments 2 Stamp and Die combo. Vintage buttons from my stash, a little burlap string bow and some fancy ric rac that my dear daughter in law gave me finished the job nicely.

So, What’s in the Pocket?

Just a Little Dose of Happy in the pocket, that’s all! I scored and folded a scrap of kraft cardstock to make this sweet little gift card/tea bag holder. The image is from the Amber Moon 3×4 Journal card stack. I just added Tammy’s sentiment to the center of the wreath and heat embossed with copper embossing powder.

A little teabag and a trio of small tags are inside.

I made these tiny tags by mopping up the ink left on my craft sheet. Then I added images from the Amber Moon 6×6 pad along with some ephemera stickers and snippets of fibers. I used Tim’s Tiny Attacher to hold the fibers in place.

Amber Moon Blessed Birthday Greeting Card

Amber Moon Blessed Birthday Greeting Card with Sweet Surprises

Hello, Friends! Can you believe it is the end of September already? This time of year is so beautiful that I wish time would slow down so it could last longer. I’ve been having the best time creating fall paper pretties. Today I have a lovely Amber Moon Blessed Birthday Greeting Card to share with you. I’ve used some really fresh and fun Really Reasonable Ribbon along with a selection of Tammy Tutterow Designs stamps and dies in this tall and skinny birthday card.

Dressed to Distress

Distress is not always a bad thing! Here’s how I added even more texture, design and just a hint of grunge to these already gorgeous papers:

First, ink the edges of all paper layers with Rusty Hinge Distress Ink. I was liberal when doing this, and let my blender stray pretty far inside the lines.
Next, add Vintage Photo Distress ink to the outer edge. This serves to create a sort of frame for the panel. It’s a small step, but it makes such a huge difference in the finished design.
Now, randomly stamp Tammy Tutterow’s Big Cheesecloth Background Stamp with Coffee Archival Ink. I don’t use an acrylic block for this. Just roll a small portion of the stamp over the ink pad, then randomly roll it onto the surface of the card. I love the subtle texture this adds to a card.
Then, repeat this process with Tammy’s Dear Ruby Background Stamp.

Be Bow-dacious!

In my world, ribbon makes a card complete. I love the fresh, almost country feel this Plaid Bold Black Check Ribbon adds to the card. The triple loop bow tied with a little help from my Zutter Bow-it-All tool adds wonderful contrast and texture to the composition. It’s a new item in the shop at Really Reasonable Ribbon, and I can’t seem to stop using it.

Dimension Makes the Difference

Adding dimension to a card makes it come to life. This can be done quite simply. For instance, I simply fussy cut these butterflies, shaped the wings with my fingers and then glued the bodies to the sentiment panel.

Adding the Element of Surprise to this Amber Moon Blessed Birthday Greeting Card

Everyone loves a good surprise…especially on his or her birthday. So I packed lots of surprises into this card. Do you see the circular element in the top right hand corner of the focal image? That’s surprise #1.

This sweet little envelope is cut from designer paper using Tammy’s Tabbed mini Pocket Die. Isn’t it darling? After making the envelope, I punched the sentiment from patterned paper, then backed it with a scalloped circle punched from brown paper. It’s held in place with one of Tim’s mini paper clips.

I used the insert that comes with the Tabbed Mini Pocket Die to cut out this portion of designer paper. Then I stamped one of Tammy’s Tiny Sentiments in the corner.

A Peek Inside

More surprises await inside! A pair of pockets is the perfect place to tuck in more birthday goodies.

The side pocket holds a little folio and a 4″ x 6″ ephemera card. There’s room to write a personal birthday greeting here.

The folio holds this little tag and a tea bag treat. There’s also a honey stick in the pocket, but it didn’t make it into the photo.

I tucked a tag and a chocolate into the second pocket.
