Throwback Thursday: Authentique Mister Masculine Valentine Tutorial and Video

Hello, Friends!  Happy Throwback Thursday!  Today I have a really fun Authentique Mister Masculine Valentine Tutorial to share with you.  Valentine’s Day will be here before we blink twice, and it’s always hard to come up with a great Valentine for the man in our life.  This interactive  flip style card is easy to make, fun to give and easy to adapt to any paper collection you have in your stash.  You could even make this same card base and turn it into a feminine card by changing up the paper collection and the embellishments.  You gotta love that!

Authentique Mister Masculine Valentine: Flips and Flaps

This all started when I was clearing up my work desk and found some nice panels of heavy kraft cardstock. As off cuts from an earlier project, they all measured 5 1/2″ tall.  One piece was 12″ x 5 1/2″.  The other was only 6 1/2″ x 5 1/2″.   Simply joined them together with 1/2″ Scor-Tape and you end up with a lovely, long 18″ x 5 1/2″ panel.  Now you can score and fold to create a gatefold card with pockets and flaps.  Here’s where to score:

  • From the left, score at 2 3/4″ and again at 6 1/2″.
  • Fold along the scored lines.  Then tuck into the corner of your scoring tool and score at 5 1/2″ and again at 10″.  You’ll see how to do this in the video below, but I just provided measurements here for your convenience.

Here’s what the flip card looks like when you open the first fold.

Flip the panel on the left to reveal a flap page.  The second panel in is a great place to add a photo.  I opted to decorate it with fussy cuts and stickers instead.

Here’s the folio fully opened.  You’ll find a vertical pocket with inserts and a side pocket on the far right.  Learn how to add these in the video tutorial.

Because my husband enjoys reading, I created a fancy little bookmark for him.  It lives in the right hand side pocket.

To learn how to make this fun project, just click play.  We’ll build the flip card base together, and add the pockets.  I’ll show you how to put that cute bookmark together, too!

I’m in Love…I’m All Shook Up Love Notes Shaker Box

Authentique Love Notes Shaker Box Reneabouquets Romance and Roses Beautiful Board by Kathy Clement Kathy by Design Photo 01

I’m in Love…I’m All Shook Up Love Notes Shaker Box for Valentine’s Day

Hello, Friends?  Got Chocolate?  Well, we might find some tucked in side this Love Notes Shaker Box project!  I’ve used Authentique Paper’s darling Love Notes Collection with a Reneabouquets Printed Beautiful Board Chipboard Frame to create this shabby chic beauty.  It’s a match made in heaven!

Love Notes Shaker Box: The Shaker Frame

The box folio measures just 5″ x 5″ with 1″ spines.  So the Reneabouquets Romance and Roses Printed Beautiful Board Frame was the perfect size to turn into a shaker top.  Here’s how I did it:

  • First, trace around the outside of the beautiful board frame onto a piece of clear cardstock.
  • Next, cut the traced image out, cutting inside the traced line so that it will fit perfectly behind the frame.
  • Now repeat this step, tracing onto the Love Notes Two pattern.
  • Adhere the clear cardstock to the back of the frame with Dries Clear Adhesive.  Use a baby wipe or damp paper towel to clean up any spillover.
  • Now die cut a doily to fit behind the heart frame.  I used the middle doily from the Heartfelt Creations Rounded Window Frame Die.
  • Place the Love Notes heart on the box card cover.  Fill the center with the shaker mix.
  • Back the heart frame with 3 layers of 1/8″ foam strips.  Then align over the sequin mix and press in place.

Add a  little sparkle to the ribbons on the heart with Diamond Stickles. Then add pink flowers, Garden Rose Ribbon, a vintage button and White Iridescent Metallic String to finish off the cover.

Love Notes Shaker Box: A Peek Inside

The inside of a card is just as much fun to create as the outside.  Add a box pocket, fill it with goodies and decorate it with a sticker from the Love Notes Collection.  Then create a sweet little folio on the top half of the card and tie it shut with a bit of pretty pink ribbon.

Look how cute it is!

And you’ll be voted “Best Valentine Ever” when you present this array of Valentine treats!  Dress a tea bag up inside a cute little wallet.  Wrap a cookie pack with designer paper and add a sticker.  Make a mini card, add a honey stick and a vintage silver plate spoon for extra fun.  And it just wouldn’t be Valentine’s Day without a bit of chocolate!  Yum!

Throwback Thursday: Authentique Crush Cards

Authentique Crush Love is an Adventure Envelope Flip Book by Kathy Clement Kathy by Design Photo 01

Throwback Thursday: Authentique Crush Cards and Folio

Hello Friends!  Love is in the air!  For this Throwback Thursday I have a trio of paper pretties made with Authentique Crush.  This collection was released in 2014, but I still love the pink and aqua color palette, the pretty patterns and the delightful images.  I pulled it out of the Closet of Shame and spent two delightful days creating these sweet projects.  You might have these papers in your stash, so I thought I would share them here.

Authentique Crush Envelope Flip Book

Remember the Carta Bella Home Again Envelope Flip Book Tutorial I shared with you at the beginning of this week? This is the folio base I built in the tutorial.  I just dressed it up in these pretty Valentine’s Day papers.

TIP: Add round elements to a square or rectangular card to offer contrast.  This lovely vintage clock cabochon and silver sentiment charm do the trick.

TIP: Mixed metals?  Unify them with a little white chalk paint.  I painted the arrow, the base for the clock cabochon and the key so they would all match.  It also lends a shabby chic finish to the folio design.

Black houndstooth check ribbon ties in with the design paper and helps to anchor all these pastel colors.  Use it for the ribbon closure.  Tie loopy bows with black micro gingham ribbon and tuck in with the flower clusters.

A Peek Inside

True confessions: I had planned to do a video tour of this little folio, but it sold in the Etsy Shop, and I packed it up and shipped it…then I said, “oops!”  Sorry about that!  You can watch the video tour of the Carta Bella Envelope Flip Book to see how all the parts work together.  But I’ll just show you inspiration pictures of this project.

These are little magnetic flap elements.  Don’t you just love these images?

Pocket insert folio.

Gift packet with decorative belly band.  Create the envelope with an Envelope Punch Board.

Valentine treats!

Authentique Crush Vintage Style Card

Next I made a 5″ x 7″ vintage style Valentine.  Once again, I used circular elements to offset the sharp corners of the card.

The inside is sweet and simple with a little treat pocket and a blank die cut panel for a personal greeting.

Authentique Crush Shaker Card

This little shaker card might just be my favorite of the trio.  The 4 1/4″ x 6 3/4″ base was made with an off cut from die cutting the frame.  Back the frame with clear cardstock (acetate) then line the solid portions of the frame with 1/8″ wide foam tape to create the shaker element, For fun, I punched out the little ticket from the elements sheet and let it float freely in the shaker mix.

Shaker cards are like a toy.  They delight me!

This little felt heart element is made with some of my old Tammy Tutterow Spellbinder dies. Tie a bitty  key and heart shaped lock to a metal arrow and adhere to the felt for a unique and perfect Valentine embellishment.

Loopy black micro gingham bows and bitty buttons  go so well with this paper collection!

And here’s a peek inside.  A simple side pocket with a chocolate treat and a blank sentiment panel for writing mooshy greetings finish things off nicely.

I think these would be so cute as part of a Valentine’s display.  Although the folio has sold, the shaker card and the vintage style card are still available in my ETSY shop at the time of this posting.

I hope I’ve shared some tips, tricks and ideas you can use in your next crafty adventure.  And I hope you dust of some of your stash and make something beautiful, too!  I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comment section below.

Love Lives Here Valentine

Authentique Romance: Love Lives Here Valentine Card Folio

Hello, Friends!  Wow…it’s the last week of January!  That means Valentine’s Day is hot on our heels.  So today I’m sharing a vintage style Love Lives Here Valentine made with Authentique Paper’s gorgeous Romance collection.

Authentique Romance Love Lives Here Valentine Card Folio by Kathy Clement Kathy by Design Photo 01

This 5″ x 7″ top fold card has a lovely vintage vibe thanks to the black and red color palette.  I wanted it to have the look of old ironwork, so I treated the chipboard and metal corners with a shabby black embossing powder that I found in my stash. I echoed this with the jet black vintage button that sits regally on top of the Lipstick Red seam binding bow.

TIP: for a fun, easy embellishment, wrap your card with gold metallic string.  Tie on some tiny antique bronze keys and add a bow.  Did you  notice that one of these keys is shaped like a heart?  How sweet is that?

I combined papers from the 12×12 Collection Kit along with the 6×6 bundle to make sure that the patterned papers did not compete for attention.  I read somewhere that when you are designing with patterned papers, you want to think “quarter, nickel, dime”.  The quarter is the larger pattern: in this case, the red lattice in the background.  The “nickel” is represented in the small leaf pattern.  And the “dime” would be the small stripe.  The black and white heart pattern is large, but it reads like a neutral because of the colors.

It’s always fun to carry a color or a theme inside a card.  So you’ll find the same red and black color palette inside.  Don’t you just love the red and white lace patterned paper?  Ooh la la!

I love surprises, so I tucked a sweet one inside this darling little ribbon tied gift wallet.

Sweets for the sweet…and room to write a little love note.

The large pocket on the bottom holds a tea bag wallet, a honey stick and a vintage silver plate spoon.  I just love it when a card doubles as a gift!

Prima Spring Farmhouse Shaker Folio

Prima Spring Farmhouse Shaker Folio for the Vintage Valentine Challenge at Frilly & Funkie

Hello, Friends!  Growing up in Vermont put a love for all things farm house in my heart.  So I’ve created a really romantic, shabby chic Prima Spring Farmhouse Shaker Folio for the latest challenge at The Frilly and Funkie Challenge Blog.  Maggi, our lovely hostess, has chosen the challenge theme, and this is what she is looking for in this romantic challenge.

Challenge Theme:  Vintage Valentines
It’s sweetheart time and what could be more fun than creating Valentine’s for our loved ones?  For this challenge I want to see vintage valentines in vintage colors like pinks, blues, purples.  No bright red please.  Show me your vintage side with vintage colors and images.  If you need some inspiration, click here to link to a great vintage color palette.
Prima Spring Farmhouse Shaker Folio: The Inspiration

Prima Spring Farmhouse Shaker Folio by Kathy Clement for The Funkie Junkie Boutique Photo 01

I love Valentine’s Day!  When I was a little girl, I would spend days cutting out paper hearts, gluing doilies on them and writing little poems for my friends and family.  My parents were married on Valentine’s Day, Dale and I were married two days after Valentine’s Day and two of our sons were married on either side of the holiday.  What could possibly be sweeter than a day set aside to let people know you love them?

Years ago, my mother gave us an anniversary card with a quote from this Robert Browning Poem as the sentiment.  “Grow old along with me!  The best is yet to be, the last of life for which the first was made… ”  Imagine my delight when I found a paraphrase of this sentiment tucked into the Prima Spring Farmhouse ephemera pack!  Perfect for my vintage Valentine!

Prima Spring Farmhouse Shaker Folio: The Details

I ran across this Prima Venetian Shutter element while tidying up my studio.  Immediately, I knew it would make a wonderful shaker window.  This really is the easiest shaker element I have ever made. Because of the design of the Venetian Shutter, i simply needed to cut a piece of clear acrylic and glue it in the top of the window frame. Then, I filled the shaker with some sequins and beads, adhered the focal image to the back and glued the whole thing onto the card base.

Prima Flowers adorn either side of the shutters.  The succulent planter is adhered over some Spanish moss, and bowed to give it some extra dimension.  The shutters are dry brushed with Antique Linen Distress Paint.  (So are the leaves in the flower arrangements.)

Here, you can really see the sentiment.  To create the bowed effect, gently run it against the side of a ruler or bone folder.  Then adhere just the ends to the card base.  A little archway of Prima bitty flowers wreathe the sentiment.  Then I just mounted a chipboard bee image onto one of the Farmhouse wooden spool embellishments.   The steampunk bee charm is dry brushed with more Antique Linen Distress Paint and adhered in the upper corner of the window.

Prima Spring Farmhouse Shaker Folio: Bossy Paper

This is one of those projects that got bossy with me.  It was meant to be a card…but it grew into a folio.  What can I say?  Sometimes paper has a mind of its own.

Antique Gold Silky Crushed Satin ribbon is just gorgeous with this collection.  To adhere it, I first wrapped 3 strips of 1/2″ Scor-Tape around the back and front of the folio.  Then I pressed the ribbon in place.

Prima Spring Farmhouse Shaker Folio: A Peek Inside

The folio is filled with interactive elements.  I found that the 4″ x 6″ and 3″ x 4″ journal cards made it very easy to create  them.  These two pull out folios will hold three 4″ x 6″ photos each.

These smaller folios made from tables scraps have a magnetic tab top closure.  They live in a side pocket and will hold 3″ x 5″ photos.

Here, you can see the folio fully opened.  I removed the insert panel on the left so you can see that there’s room here for a 5″ x 7″ photo.  It’s nice to create a design that works for different sized photos.

The center panel of this trifold folio holds a good sized waterfall folio.  There are 7 panels held in place by a magnetic belly band.  Each panel measures 5″ x 4″ so it will hold pretty good sized photos.  I scored an extra 1/4″ “gusset” in the belly band to allow plenty of room for photos.

A little pocket is tucked beneath the waterfall.

And these two 3 1/4″ x 4 1/4″ folios are tucked inside.
