Stamperia Pink Christmas Card Folio: Really Reasonable Ribbon Blog Hop

Hello, Ribbon Lovers! Welcome to the RRR November Blog Hop. You should be coming here from Karen’s lovely blog. I have such a treat for you today! This Stamperia Pink Christmas Card Folio sparkles and shines with shabby chic charm. I’ve dressed it up in its holiday best using dreamy ribbons from the November Ribbon Club Assortment.

This card feels like a magical portal back in time to a peaceful, simple, cozy Christmas! It measures 5 3/4″ x 7 3/4″ x 1/2″ and is richly layered with papers, images, ribbons, flowers and all the shabby chic elements I love the most. Don’t you want to spend the holidays in this serene and scenic spot?

Stamperia Pink Christmas Card Folio: The Layers

To create this rich, layered look follow these simple steps:

First cut a 5 5/8″ mat from soft teal cardstock. Distress the edges and ink with Worn Lipstick Distress Ink.
Next, cut a 5 1/2″ mat from soft pink cardstock and repeat the distressing steps.
Now cut a 5 1/4″ layer of the pink and aqua mixed media background page from Pink Christmas. (The one with the squirrels on the back side).
Then stitch or adhere all 3 layers together .
Add a layer of white crochet lace from the ribbon club assortment along the border edge of the patterned paper.

Now fussy cut the image from the paper collection and back with dimensionals like foam tape or waste chipboard.
Use postage stamp shaped scissors to cut out the stamp images and layer behind the focal along with the “Christmas” banner.
Adhere a white glitter snowflake in the upper left hand corner of the card.
Then adhere all the other layers in place.

Stamperia Pink Christmas Card Folio: The Bow Cluster

Here’s how I created this deliciously shabby chic bow cluster.

First tie a 3.5″ double loop bow with 5/8″ White Shimmer Satin. Adhere to the card base.
Now tie a 3.5″ double loop bow with 3/8″ Light Pink Organza/Satin Center Ribbon. Adhere in the center of the White Shimmer Satin Bow.
Twist the stems of 3 Pretty Flori Mulberry Flowers (currently out of stock) together and adhere to the top of the bow cluster.
Tuck in some White Bead/Berry Spray Clusters.
Tie white jingle bells together with Gold Metallic Baker’s Twine. Tuck into the bow cluster, securing with hot glue.
To add snowy effects to the flowers, dry brush with ivory acrylic paint.

Stamperia Pink Christmas Card Folio: Detail Shots

This little vignette is created on top of a slice of wood my son cut from a branch. First, I painted the surface with Picket Fence Distress Paint. Then I added some Ranger Crackle Texture Paste and Clear Rock Candy Distress Glitter to the edges. Then I adhered the mini Woodland Tree, some more bead/berry clusters and a vintage button from my stash. Next, I adhered the entire assemblage to a cut apart from the paper collection, backed it with foam adhesive and adhered in place. A few more shell buttons from my stash, some icy branches and a touch of Diamond Stickles and dry brushing with acrylic paint complete the card.

I’ve “tied things up” inside with more of that lovely light pink organza/satin center ribbon. Ooh la la!

Here’s a sweet spot to tuck Christmas photos and memories.

More little goodies tucked inside!

Stamperia Atelier Sewing Themed Folio with Tutorial: Frilly and Funkie Haberdashery Challenge

Hello, Friends! Grab a needle and thread and join me today as I share this Stamperia Atelier Sewing Themed Folio made for the Haberdashery Challenge at the Frilly and Funkie Challenge Blog. There’s a little tutorial for building the base and the box pocket along with a video tour. But before we dive into the project, let’s see what our clever and amazing host, Zoe, has to say about the challenge guidelines.

A haberdasher is a person who sells small articles for sewing, such as buttons, ribbons and zippers. For this challenge create a vintage or shabby chic project including items found at a Haberdashery.

I have been excited about this challenge from the moment it was posted. As I’ve shared here before, my mother was a wonderful seamstress. She had an old fashioned White sewing machine with a knee pedal. As a young bride, she saved her pennies until she could afford to buy it, and the handsome wood cabinet it rested in. Winters in New England were long, dreary and cold. But Mom’s sewing area was a paradise of color, pattern and design. I spent countless hours curled up beside her watching her sew. Throw pillows, curtains, furniture covers, clothing for the family, gifts…there was nothing she could not do with that trusty sewing machine. I think that my love for color and design were planted during the lovely hours I spent watching mom create with fabric. So when it came to the challenge, I wanted to create a really vintage looking vignette to honor those memories.

This 6″ x 8″ trifold folio has double 1/2″ spines. I’ve added machine stitching, distressed edges, stenciling, snippets of fabric and lace to amp up the shabby chic vibe. The Tim Holtz Vignette Frame has been antiqued with black gesso, tinted crackle texture paste, White Linen Dylusions Spray and Prima Crackle Texture Pastes. Then I filled the cavity with sewing notions (Haberdashery) that I’ve collected from estate sales and yard sales along with items purchased at The Funkie Junkie Boutique.

To complement the Stamperia Atelier papers, I’ve added Antique Gold Check Ribbon and Little Birdie Crafts Blue Natalie Handmade Flowers. The dress form on the frame is one that I’ve had in my stash for ages. I traced the body onto a scrap of designer paper, cut it out and glued it on.

After I painted the Vignette Frame with Black Gesso, I tinted Opaque Crackle Texture Paste with a couple of drops of Old Paper Re-inker. Brush this onto the frame and let it dry. Then spritz the frame randomly with Dylusions White Linen Spray. Heat set. Then dip your finger into Prima Antique Silver Crackle Texture and rub randomly into the crevices of the frame. Repeat the process with Gold Crackle. Let this dry. Then brush the raised areas very lightly with a sanding block. I love how old the frame looks. Tap the Venise Lace with Frayed Burlap Distress Ink to age it before you adhere it.

Stamperia paper collections have stolen my heart. The collaged papers have all the mixed media effects built into them. So you can put a folio like this together very quickly without all the mess and time involved in mixed media pursuits. By the way, in case you were wondering, an atelier is a workshop or a studio used by an artist.

Stamperia Atelier Sewing Themed Folio: A Peek Inside

The interior of this folio is made up of 3 panels. The base is built with 11″ x 17″ kraft cardstock that I found at Envelopes.com. You could, of course, piece together 2 sheets of 8 1/2″ x 11 cardstock with Scor-Tape to create the base. Both the right and center panels measure 6″ x 8″. The right hand panel is a cutaway that measures 4″ x 8″. I added a pocket and some small shaped folios here.

To make these little folios do the following:

Fussy cut the images from the paper collection.
Fold kraft cardstock and trace the shapes. For the spool, keep the fold on the left. For the dress form, keep the fold on the top.
Cut the traced shapes out, leaving a portion of the fold intact.
Glue the images onto the base.

To create the flap page:

Cut a 5 5/8″ x 7 7/8″ panel of designer paper. This will line the left hand panel of the folio. Do not adhere yet.
Cut a 5 3/4″ x 4″ panel of the brown burlap. Score a 1/2″ flap on the left hand side.
Adhere the flap behind the larger piece of paper. Then adhere the entire assembly onto the folio base.

Inside, I’ve stamped Tim’s Inventor 3 onto panels of Mixed Media Heavy Stock that have been colored with Old Paper, Antique Linen, Stormy Sky and Tattered Rose Distress Oxide Inks. Then I added a few stenciled stitches with Prima Gold Crackle.

I added a waterfall cascade on the reverse side of the right hand panel using Tammy Tutterow’s Waterfall One Dies. (retired) But the center panel is the very heart of this folio. I’ve added a box style pocket and accordion fold folio here.

The collage on the cover is created with Tim’s Sewing Room Die and a fussy cut element from the Atelier collection. Here’s how I made the folio.

Cut 2 sheets of 8 1/2″ x 11″ kraft cardstock to measure 4 1/4″ x 6 1/4″.
Join the two 6 1/4″ ends together. To do this, adhere a strip of 1/2″ Scor-Tape on the very end of one panel. Then overlap the the other panel so that it lines up perfectly with the Scor-Tape margins.
Score the panel every 4 1/4″.
Accordion fold, and trim away any excess.

Line each panel with a 4″ x 6″ cut of designer paper.

Fussy cut elements from the paper collection. Adhere just one side to create tuck spots. Tim’s Remnant Design Tape adds extra layers of interest.

Stamperia Old Lace Feminine Flip Folio Tutorial for Frilly and Funkie “Layers of Lace” Challenge

Hello, Friends! Is there anything more romantic and feminine than lace? Today I have a shabby romantic Stamperia Old Lace Feminine Flip Folio Tutorial to share with you. I’ve made it for the “Layers of Lace” Challenge over on the Frilly and Funkie Blog. Before we take a look at the project, let’s see what Autumn, our lovely challenge hostess, has to say about the challenge theme.

Whether you add delicate layers of fine lace, or tattered and torn crocheted lace, we’d love to see you add dimension and depth to your vintage or shabby chic project with lace. Perhaps you have a favorite lace stamp or will choose to lace something up, we’d love to see your creations inspired by this topic.

Stamperia Old Lace Feminine Flip Folio: A Two Story Design

Once again, I’ve pulled my Mixed Media Boots out of the Closet of Shame for this challenge. And once again, I’ve created a new style of folio, which is always really fun to do! I’m calling this a “two story” folio with a 4.25″ x 7.5″ folio layered over a standard 5″ x 7″ top fold base with a 1/2″ spine.

This makes for a really fun, dimensional look, as well as lots of fun spots to stash goodies. I would love to make you think that I’m totally brilliant, but the truth of the matter is that this design came about by accident. When I had finished putting the individual folio components together, which is my usual work process, I realized that the “tag” I had made to fit inside the folio was too tall! So I had to think quickly…and this design is the result. See? No crafting catastrophes allowed! Just crafting opportunities!

Stamperia Old Lace Feminine Flip Folio: Cover Art

I love the look of Distress Oxide Inks over kraft paper. If you look in the top right corner, you can see it…topped with some stenciling, a little random stamping and very light heat embossing with ultra fine gold embossing powder.

The flower is actually cut from the paper collection, spritzed with water, shaped with a stylus and then inked and painted. Use an awl to poke a hole in the flower center, then add some stamens.

And I personally love the contrast of distressed edges, burlap and crocheted lace. It just works for me!

Open the top story of this folio to find more lace, torn paper layers, some inked, stamped, distressed paper and a handwritten sentiment. Make the little tea bag holder by scoring a Graphic 45 Regular Ivory Tag and lining it with designer paper. Wrap the base with more lace, just for fun!

Stamperia Old Lace Feminine Flip Folio: The Ground Floor

Here’s a photo of the “ground floor” or the base for this flip folio. Here’s how I made it.

Create a 5″ x 7″ card base with a top fold and 1/2″ spine.
- First, cut an 8 1/2″ x 11″ piece of kraft cardstock into two 5″ x 8 1/2″ panels.
- Place 1/2″ Scor-tape or other adhesive along the bottom edge of one panel.
- Next, line the second panel up over the Scor-tape and press firmly to adhere.
- Place the long side on a scoring tool and score at 7″ and again at 7 1/2″. This forms the 1/2″ spine
- Finally, crease along the score lines and trim away the excess paper at the bottom.

Once you have the base built, you will need to add your flaps.

For the gatefold flaps on the top half of the card do as follows
- Cut two 4″ x 6″ rectangles of kraft cardstock.
- Place the short side on your scoring tool and score at 1/2″ on one panel. This forms the left hand gate.
- Repeat with the second panel, scoring at 3 1/2″ to form the right hand gate.
- Adhere each flap to the folio base, then cover with your designer paper.
For the side flap cut a 5″ x 4″ panel of kraft cardstock. Score a 1/2″ flap on the right hand side and adhere to the right hand side of card base.

This is what my folio looks like on the inside. I paired the Stamperia Old Lace papers up with Prima Love Story. The combination of pink and brown really works for me.

Gatefold flaps open to reveal a pair of kraft glassine pockets on either side of the larger center panel. By gluing just 3 sides of this postcard from the Old Lace Collection, I was able to create a nifty pocket in about 2 seconds!

Each glassine pocket folds down to reveal a photo mount and a hidden journaling spot on a card hidden inside the envelope.

Just look at the gorgeous paper on this flap feature!

Open the flap to find more interactive elements. The back side of the flap features a pull out page with a hidden journaling spot.

This 4″ x 5 1/2″ mini folio fits neatly in the large pocket on the bottom of the base. I’ve added some stenciled polka dots and painted edges to shabby things up even more. But wait…there’s more!

The folio is actually a lovely little envelope. I can’t take any credit for this at all, doggone it! It’s part of the Old Lace paper collection. All I did was cut it out, score and fold. How lovely is that? And what’s inside the envelope?

Hello, Ribbon Lovers! Today’s project is a soft and shabby thinking of you card that is loaded with layers and texture. You can add texture to a project in lots of different ways. But adding ribbon is the quickest way I know to get the job done.

I wanted this card to have a very natural, botanical feel. These Kaisercraft Cherry Tree Lane papers have been calling my name for a while now, They’ve been patiently waiting in the Closet of Shame and were overdue for a little paper play time.

To age the papers, I first dragged the edges through a little pool of water. We’re not talking total immersion here…just a quick skim through a teeny tiny bit of water to soften the edges. Next, I ran my distressing tool all along the edge of every layer. Then I inked all the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink,. This step adds that aged shabby look that I love so much.

Once I had all my paper layers in place, it was time to add the fun stuff. Vintage pearl buttons from my stash, flat back pearls, coiled wire, glittered foliage and soft florals from Little Birdie Crafts all add to the vintage feel of the design. To tie all these layers and paper pretties together, I created this soft textured bow using Really Reasonable Ribbon Pink Burlap Center Stitch Ribbon.

Soft and Shabby Thinking of You Card: A Peek Inside

Sad to say, I needed to make another sympathy card. Too many this year, and it makes me just a little bit sad. My hope is that this card brought comfort and peace to the heart of the recipient. I don’t enjoy making sympathy cards, but I do love to let people know that they are not alone during a difficult time.

Hello, G45’ers! They say that everybody loves a baby, and I do believe this is true. Making a special gift for a new babe is one of my favorite crafty adventures. It’s always a delight to layer up those soft pastel baby papers and images, isn’t it? I made this Graphic 45 Little Darlings Little Boy Blue Card Folio with the Deluxe Collector Edition. The DCE’s come with all the 12×12 papers plus the wonderful chipboard and stamp elements. That makes it easy to create a memorable gift for baby!

Little Boy Blue Card Folio: How to Create a Shabby Chic Vibe

Shabby Chic cards are such fun to create. This 5″ x 7″ Little Boy Blue Card Folio is loaded with shabby chic touches. Here are some of the tricks I used to amp up the shabby chic volume on this card.

First, create distressed edges by lightly running the blade of your scissors or a distressing tool along the paper edges. You don’t have to brutalize the paper; a light touch will do.
Next, I love to add machine or hand stitching to the layers.

Next, try to add fussy cut elements, like these floral clusters. Tuck them in between layers.
Use shabby chic metal embellishments. These Graphic 45 Staples Keys and Ornate Key Hole have been tapped with ivory acrylic paint to add to their shabby chic appeal.

Add lots of layers!
Include texture in your composition. Ribbon, flowers, string…all these things lend themselves to shabby chic design.

Use floral clusters to draw the eye to an image that might otherwise be overlooked. The flowers that surround the chipboard frame keep it from disappearing.
Add a little paint spatter! Thin acrylic paint with water. Then pick it up with a paint brush. Hold the very end of the brush handle with one hand and tap the opposite end of the brush with your finger. You can practice this technique on scrap paper until you feel confident enough to try it in real life!

This hybrid creation is part card, part mini album and part gift.
