DIY Sunshine Happiness Journal for Tweens

Summer Fun with  Petaloo: DIY Sunshine Happiness Journal

Hello, Petaloo Fans! Today I have  a fun activity for your tweens. This DIY Sunshine Happiness Journal is a quick, easy and affordable project.  It’s perfect for taking along on a long car trip, tucking into a camper’s suitcase, carrying on an airplane or taking to Grandma’s house.

The base of the Sunshine Happiness Journal is a standard steno notebook.  These are awesome, because the back cover is so sturdy you don’t need a desk.  This is such a simple make that your tween could put this together all on her own.  (I did not make one for a boy, but you could do so easily!)

I decorated the cover with Simple Stories Sunshine and Happiness paper, then added on chipboard elements and stickers for extra fun.

Decorate the inside cover with more designer papers and create a simple slash pocket to hold journaling cards.  The cards can be glued into the journal along with photos.

These fun journal cards will look great when added to the inside pages. You could add postage stamps and envelopes to the pocket to encourage your tween to write letters home from camp or grandma’s house. Tuck in a hot pink pen, and you’re good to go!

Wishing you a fun filled summer! Now go get your craft on!

We All Scream for Ice Cream

We All Scream for Ice Cream for RRR Sizzlin’ Summer Colors Challenge

RRRChallengeBadgeHello, Friends!  Remember this little chant from your childhood?  I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! I can remember jumping rope to this little ditty, throwing it in at the end of counting for hide and seek, and shouting it while my friends and I played on the swings.  It is one of those magical phrases that takes me right back to the sunny, carefree summer days of childhood.  And since the newest challenge at Really Reasonable Ribbon is Sizzlin’ Summer Colors, I found myself grinning and reciting these playful words while making this ice cream themed card.

IcWe All Scream for Ice Cream Birthday Card by Kathy Clement Simple Stories Sunshine and Happiness for Petaloo International Summer Fun 01I combined several ribbons from the June Ribbon Club Assortment with the fresh images and sizzlin’ summer colors of Simple Stories Sunshine & Happiness paper collection.  Don’t these colors remind you of cool refreshing sherbet, Creamsicles and ice cold popsicles?  Quick, somebody bring me my flip-flops and a hula hoop!

We All Scream for Ice Cream Ice Cream Birthday Card by Kathy Clement Simple Stories Sunshine and Happiness for Petaloo International Summer Fun 02After stitching several panels of the paper onto white cardstock, I layered them up with foam dimensionals.  Then, I created a super pouftacular triple layer bow with Maize Taffeta, Tangerine Checkerboard Satin and Citrus Sheer Dots Ribbon and topped it off with a hot pink button from my stash.

We All Scream for Ice Cream Ice Cream Birthday Card by Kathy Clement Simple Stories Sunshine and Happiness for Petaloo International Summer Fun 03Blackberries are my favorite summer fruit , so I added in this totes adorbs  fuchsia flowering berry pick from Petaloo.  I curled the stems around the end of my craft pick to add some fun texture to the arrangement.

On the inside of this 5″ x7″ top fold card, I created a little pocket and decorated it with more fun ice cream elements from the paper collection.  There’s a little journaling card in the pocket so that a personal note can be added to the card.

Sunshine and Happiness Easel Card

RRR Blog Hop BadgeSunshine and Happiness Easel Card for RRR Blog Hop

Hello, Friends!  It’s time for the June Ribbon Club Assortment Blog Hop with Really Reasonable Ribbon, and I think you’re going to love the Sunshine and Happiness easel card I have to share with you.  You should have made your way here from Karen’s lovely blog.  If so, you are right on track.  The blog hop starts on the Really Reasonable Ribbon blog, so if you are lost, you can start there and find the links to all the blogs on this hop.

I love the sunshiny colors of the Citrus Assortment in the June Ribbon Club.  Working with them is like taking a tropical vacation.

Citrus Assortment June Ribbon Club Assortment RRRI thought these ribbons were a great match for Simple Stories “Sunshine and Happiness” collection.  Since I have a sweet l’il grand girl who is turning 7 this month, I combined paper and ribbons to create this Sunshine and Happiness easel card.

This is the perfect card for our sweet Sophie, because she does spread sunshine and happiness everywhere she goes.

These tropical punch colors just scream summertime fun, and they play so nicely with the Citrus ribbons.  I created  a belly band by layering Citrus Paint Splatter Grosgrain, Tangerine Crosshatch Satin, and Citrus Chevron Striped Grosgrain along the base of the card front.

The “footrest” for the easel portion of the card is made by layering Maize Honeycomb Print Satin on top of Tangerine Delicate Stitched Satin Ribbon. This sunny combo was  topped with cute chipboard pieces from the Sunshine and Happiness chips.  And I had to throw some Petaloo Gerber Daisies into the mix as well.

This little balloon bouquet is my favorite element on the card.  I tied a double loop bow with orange checkerboard satin ribbon and maize taffeta ribbon.  This was topped with a festive double loop bow tied with Sheer Citrus Dots Ribbon and a Petaloo Yellow Gerber Daisy.  I added a touch of stickles to the balloons, because 7 year old girls loooove glitter!

Simple Stories Sunshine and Happiness Easel Card by Kathy Clement for Really Reasonable Ribbon 01aThe nice thing about easel cards is that they fold up for mailing, then open for display.

Here’s a peeky at the inside of the card.  There’s a little gift card pocket for an ice cream gift card and cash for her college fund.  Sophie will love these bright colors and summer images, and I can’t wait to give it to her at her birthday party!
