RRR Anything Goes Challenge: Home Family Blessing Altered Frame and Greeting Card

Hello, Friends! Welcome to another “anything goes with ribbon or trim” challenge at Really Reasonable Ribbon. It’s always fun to update one’s home decor in the fall, so I’ve created a rustic Home Family Blessing Altered Frame and greeting card for you today. Once again, I’ve used Simple Stories “Vintage Blessings” to complement my gorgeous Really Reasonable Ribbon.

This 8″ x 10″ frame was in a box at a local yard sale, waiting just for me! It was chipped and worn, but had good bones. For 50 cents, I decided it could come home with me and get a little makeover.

I’m so glad I snapped this beauty up, as it was loads of fun to alter with distress paints, Petaloo flowers, and Rust/Ivory Plaid Ribbon from Really Reasonable Ribbon.

I painted the dark brown chippy frame with Antique Linen Distress Paint. When it was almost dry, I wiped it back with a slightly damp paper towel. This process was repeated with Peeled Paint, and Antique Bronze Distress Paint. Next, I added more paint, then spritzed it with water and let it run. Finally, I thinned out the paints on my craft sheet and spattered paint all over.

TIP: Cover the glass portion of the frame with sticky notes to keep it clean. This saved me so much time and trouble!

The final step was adding these gorgeous Petaloo Magnolia blossoms and a triple loop bow. Adding the bow was the perfect finishing touch!

Home Is Where the Heart Is Greeting Card

While I had my desk all messed up, I decided to go ahead and create a card.

This 5″ x 7″ top fold card has a 1/4″ spine. I used more of my little hand made felt embellies and more of this gorgeous Rust/Ivory Plaid Ribbon to adorn the card.

The inside of the card has a side pocket with a little tag and honey stick tucked inside.

If you are like me, you’re always looking for a way to use up scraps. These little tags do a great job! And, you can add your ribbon scraps to the top. For this topper, simply slip your ribbon through the hole punch. Then tie a square knot with another ribbon scrap to hold it in place.

This larger pocket contains a darling little tea bag wallet to go with the honey stickOnce again, I used scraps to create the belly band and the little ribbon on the tag.

Really Reasonable Ribbon Vintage Blessings Card Duo

Hello, Ribbon Lovers! I don’t know what it is about fall, but it always inspires feelings of gratitude in my heart. Maybe it’s thankfulness for the cooler weather after a long hot summer. Perhaps it’s the bright blue sky and gorgeous fall colors. Or it could be the promise of Thanksgiving on the horizon. Whatever it is, it sure does make my heart happy. Today I’ve used Really Reasonable Ribbon to add the finishing touches to a Simple Stories Vintage Blessings Card Duo. I hope these cards will stir up that same thankful feeling in your heart.

Vintage Blessings Easel Card

Felt flowers are my latest obsession, and I love the fall color they add to this 5″ x 7″ vertical easel card. (I’ll share product links below the post.)

I searched all through my ribbon cart for something that would pull all these vibrant colors together. This rustic Plaid Ribbon in Rust and Ivory tones was equal to the task.

I love the way this triple loop bow draws the eye to the sentiment on my cute little house. Topping the ribbon with a Natural Burlap String Bow and an acorn adds to the card’s rustic feel.

Like all easel cards, this one folds down for mailing.

Inside, I’ve added a small treat pocket and a sentiment.

A Little Bit of Ribbon Goes a Long Way

I love to find creative ways to use my ribbon scraps. This little piece of Ivory/Rust ribbon left over from tying the triple loop bow was too small to use. Or was it?

As it turns out, it was just the right size to finish off the safety pin embellishment on this 5″ x 7″ card. I simply snipped the ends, slipped it through the circle on the end of the safety pin, then tied it in place with Natural Burlap String.

It’s a small detail that makes a big impact, drawing the eye to an embellishment that might otherwise be overlooked. I love that about ribbon!

Here’s a look at the other details on this happy little card.

Creating the inside of this card was really fun. I tucked a recipe card, tea bag wallet and honey stick into the shallow pocket.

Of course, there’s room to tuck a gift card inside, too.

Prize Winning Peonies….

This bodacious bow cluster started with a triple loop bow tied with Peony Delicate Stitched Satin Ribbon. Then I topped it off with a Crosshatch on 3/8″ Satin double loop bow and a pretty posy. This combo really amps up the shabby chic vibe .

Shabby Chic Birthday Blessings Card: I Get By with a Little Help From My Friends

Just like the old Beatles tune, “I get by with a little help from my friends,” I tie bows with a little help from my friend! Studying Bonnie Garby’s YouTube video tutorials and using my Zutter Bow-it-All Tool are the secrets to my bow tying success. I know there are lots of different ways to tie fabulous bows, and some of you are so smart you don’t need to use a tool. I, however, was a bow-tying flunk out, and these two secret weapons really changed up my game.

Shabby Chic Birthday Blessings Card: A Peek Inside

I love finishing the inside of a card as much as I love designing the cover. Here, I’ve layered up papers, paper scraps, a vellum sentiment panel and some washi tape. A little message is tucked into the tiny envelope….just for fun!

Together Card Folio: Simple Stories Vintage Blessings

Together Card Folio with Simple Stories Vintage Blessings and Textured Ribbon

Hello, Ribbon Lovers! Time for another fabulous Really Reasonable Ribbon challenge! Once again, the theme is “anything goes” using ribbon or trim. I love using ribbon and trim to add texture to my cards. That’s what I’ve done with this Together Card Folio made with Simple Stories Vintage Blessings Collection.

Let’s look at all the ways I added texture to this cute vintage card folio:

First, I machine stitched a double border around the card perimeter.
Next, I used Turquoise Center Stitch Ribbon to create borders between my patterned papers.
Then, I created a lovely little bow cluster with Turquoise Burlap Center Stitch Ribbon and crochet lace.

Next, I added a couple of Tammy Tutterow Posie Part Felt Flowers and a small rolled up doily from my stash to my bow cluster.

Finally, I added a stained wood word title to the card, as well as painted/embossed/distressed wood doilies beneath that cute little house. Which is where I want to live when I retire, just so you know!

Together Card Folio: A Peek Inside

Adding pockets, mini folios and little treats to a card like this turns it into an instant gift. This would make such a lovely hostess gift or a thoughtful housewarming gift….or even a “gee I’m glad you’re my friend” kind of gift.

The side pocket on the top of the card holds this vintage button card. I jazzed it up a little with a strip of washi tape. The tiny envelope is decorated with some die cuts from the collection. It holds a lovely tea bag.

The bottom pocket holds this little photo wallet. 4″ x 4.5″ photo wallet. To add texture here, I created a string closure from Natural Burlap String and a fuzzy vintage button from my stash. Can you see the honey stick peeping out of the pocket? That’s to go with the tea bag, of course!

Here’s a peeky inside the photo wallet. The little embellishments are glued just on one end, so photos can slip right behind them.

Family Rules Altered Washboard with Ribbon

Family Rules Altered Washboard with Chevron Ribbon and Simple Stories Vintage Blessings

Hello, Ribbon Lovers! Today I’m sharing a treasure that I found while out junkin’ with my sweet sister. This Family Rules Altered Washboard was tucked in a dusty corner at one of our favorite flea markets. Since my daughter in law collects washboards, and had a birthday coming up, I snapped it up in a jiffy! While it was very cute in its original form, I thought it would be even more delightful dressed up with some Really Reasonable Ribbon, paper pretties and mulberry flowers. What do you think?

My mom kept a washboard on a bathroom shelf when I was a little girl. (I know, I know…I’m dating myself!) I can still remember her hand washing her “delicates” in the white enamel claw foot bathtub. It always looked like so much fun and there was a sort of rhythm to the whole procedure that appealed to me. Run the bar of soap over the ridges, whump thump! Then douse the slip in the water, swish, swish. Now rub the dampened garment up and down over the washboard while you sing a little tune. What could be more fun than that? I used to beg my mom to give me a turn, and finally, she gave in. I quickly learned that it was backbreaking hard work. I’m so thankful for my automatic washer…aren’t you?

Family Rules Altered Washboard: the details

This 3/4″ Chevron Striped Twill Ribbon looks fabulous with these papers from Simple Stories Vintage Blessings. Altering this vintage washboard only took about 30 minutes and it was so much fun!

Our son is pretty handy when it comes to building things. He just built our daughter in law a beautiful display shelf in her laundry room for her washboard collection. This little beauty will fit right in with the rest of the bunch.

When altering this washboard, I decided not to cover up the top portion. I loved the typography and the cute bee engraving. So I kept my decor to a minimum. First, I stitched the 6″ x 8″ sentiment panel onto corrugate paper.Then I attached thick jute cording to the top of the stitched sentiment. Next, I ran washi tape over the top and bottom border. Once this was done, I secured it to the washboard with vintage style brass thumbtacks.

Mini clothespins seemed a natural choice for decor, especially when topped with pretty pink ribbon, burlap string and creamy white WOC Magnolia Blossoms.

I hope I find another one of these washboards some day, as I’d love to have one in my own laundry room area!
