Christmas Pop Up Gift Card Holder

His and Hers Christmas Pop Up Gift Card Holder

Hello, Friends!  Well, we are on the final countdown to Christmas, and I’m scrambling around trying to get everything done.  If you’re like me, you’re giving at least one gift card this season, To help you with the presentation,  I thought I’d share a tutorial for a super cute, super easy  Christmas Pop Up Gift Card Holder with you today.  These are made using a tutorial that I put together last year for a Christmas blog hop.  I liked the design so well, that I adapted it a little this year and made them again.  You can find that  post and YouTube tutorial HERE.

These A2 (4.25″ x 5.5″) sized cards that I made last year feature Graphic 45’s gorgeous A Christmas Carol Collection.  It’s a retired collection, but you might have some of these pretty papers in your stash. But I wanted a larger sized card to accommodate a larger gift card, so I had to change up the design just a little.

Beary Merry Christmas Pop Up Gift Card Holder for Him

As you can see here, this Christmas Pop Up Gift Card Holder is quite a bit larger than the ones I made last year.  This Beary Merry Christmas version is made with Carta Bella’s adorable Cabin Fever Collection.

  • First, cut a 6″ x 12″ rectangle from one 12″ x 12″ sheet of cardstock.
  • Then score on the long side at 6″ to create a 6″ square top fold card.
  • Next, cut a 5.75″ square of kraft cardstock.  Layer your card cover design on this mat and set aside.
Christmas Pop Up Gift Card Holder: Building the Pop Up Mechanism

If pop up cards scare you, you are going to love this design.  It is soooo easy to make, and really fun to present.  Here’s how to build the inside of the card.

  • First, line both the top and the bottom of the card interior with designer papers.
  • Next, cut TWO 5.5″ wide x 4″ tall pieces of patterned paper.  These will be used to form the pop up mechanism.  This Carta Bella paper is nice and heavy, so it works well for this task.
  • Place this 5.5″ x 4″ rectangle on your scoring tool on the short side.  Score at 1″ , 2″, and 3″.
  • Now, fold on each scored line to form a kind of box shape.  If you watch my YouTube Video tutorial, you’ll see exactly how to do this.
  • Next, place Scor-Tape on the outer edge of each scored rectangle.
  • Then remove the Scor-Tape from one edge and fold in half.
  • Now, line this folded rectangle up just above the fold line of the card. The open (non-folded) edge should be facing the crease.  When it’s centered and straight, carefully press in place.
  • Next, remove the Scor-Tape from the other half of the rectangle and close the card.  Burnish with your hand, and when you open it, voila!  You will have a dimensional box shape.
  • Create the pocket (directions below) before you add the second pop up mechanism.
  • Once you have added your gift card pocket,  repeat this same procedure on the bottom half of the card.  Again, watch the video to see this done.
Christmas Pop Up Gift Card Holder: Creating the gift card pocket

You will add the gift card pocket to the card before you add the second pop up mechanism.

  • First, cut a 6.5″ x 6.5″ square of the same cardstock you used to create the card base.
  • Now place on a scoring tool and score at 3.25″.
  • Then rotate and score 1/2″ on both the right and left hand sides.  Fold and and burnish all the score lines. You will fold the side flaps in to form a pocket.
  • To reduce the pocket bulk, I cut a small “v” notch at the center crease line.  Then I glued the pocket flaps together.
  • Decorate with designer papers, bearing in mind that the bottom 1″ will be hidden behind the pop up mechanism.
  • Add a strip of  1″ Scor-Tape to the back of the pocket.
  • Now remove the tape and line the pocket up with the pop up mechanism.  Close the card and burnish to set the seal.
  • Finally, add the second pop up mechanism.
