Christmas Tags in Bags Tutorial

Wildcard Wednesday Christmas Tags in Bags Tutorial with Simple Stories Yuletide

Hello, Friends!  Are you ready for a quick, easy and fun Wildcard Wednesday Christmas Tags in Bags Tutorial?  These festive little ticking bags filled with holiday goodies are the perfect place card, Secret Santa, or teacher appreciation gift.  You could put them in a pretty Christmas bowl and use as a table centerpiece or even hang them from your tree.  They are guaranteed to make the Christmas season just a little bit more merry!

Even if you don’t sew (I don’t!) I think you’ll be able to stitch up these cute little bags.  Here’s the easy way to do it:

  • First, cut a long piece of red ticking fabric to a height of 8 inches.
  • Next, fray the top and bottom edges.
  • Now, fold the fabric in half so that it measures 4″ high.
  • Then, cut out 4″ wide rectangles of the folded fabric.  The bottom will be the fold, and the sides will be open.
  • Stitch up the sides on your sewing machine, placing the seam about 3/8″ on each side.
  • Fray the sides and fill the little bags with goodies of your choice.
Dress ’em Up!

Now comes the fun part!  Dress up your little bags with an little floral display mounted on a die cut doily.  Add trims, a rusty star, and a button to finish off these cute little tags in bags.

TIP:  Die cut your doilies, THEN emboss with a 3-D embossing folder.  This way the embossed design doesn’t get flattened.

A Peek Inside

Now cut out the cute tags from the Simple Stories Yuletide collection and mat them on kraft cardstock.  Punch a hole in the top, thread a pretty topper through the hole, add charms, jingle bells and flower and you’re done!  There’s room on the back of the tag to write a little note.

Now fill that little sack with a Christmas tea bag, demitasse spoon, and honey crystals.  Add chocolate for the perfect finish!  There’s even room to tuck in a gift card, if you wish.

Love the mixed media Kathy, all that texture, colour and fun! The trinkets are delightful and the little pouches are cute. I suppose it just depends how many things go in the pouch as to its size. Well done, these are great gifts for the Christmas season. It is warm here, windy, and yes the Christmas cards are underway. One day it would be wonderful to have Christmas in the northern hemisphere!

Will have to search my extensive holiday paper stash for tag papers now…great way to feature them. Will probably make the pockets out of coordinating papers, although the fabric ones do make it special. Love seeing the doilies in kraft and super idea to emboss them….love that folder! How on earth do you find such cute demitasse spoons?…these are so precious.
