Come Away with Me Travel Journal for the RRR Aqua and Coral Color Challenge
Hello, Friends! There’s a brand new challenge up at Really Reasonable Ribbon! This time, it’s a color challenge, which is always fun! Since the April Ribbon Club Assortment is filled with beautiful Aqua and Coral Ribbons, we decided that would be the theme for the challenge. And I used those gorgeous ribbons to make this Come Away with Me Travel Journal.
I’ll give you a nickel if you can guess what I used to make the journal cover. Give up? Ok…it’s the Duncan Hines cake mix box that I salvaged from our Easter celebration. I realized just before tossing it into the trash can that it was a great size for an album, and already had a scored spine! All I had to do was build the hidden hinge binding and fill it up. I stitched white burlap directly onto the cardboard base, and my sewing machine performed like a champ!
I punched hole at the top of the spine and threaded my ribbon through, then tied on a huge vintage key and a bunch of charms that I tapped with Peacock Feathers Distress Paint. Aren’t they fun?
Each page in the journal has pockets or photo mounts and of course, beautiful ribbons. I’ve created borders with Tropic Checkerboard Satin, Light Coral Satin with a grosgrain edge, and Light Coral Diamond Satin ribbons. The stamps are from the Graphic 45 Come Away with Me stamp series.
The clips are not part of the album…I just used them to hold the pages open while I took photographs.
I love the combination of coral and aqua with the chocolate brown. These ribbons are the Coral Rose Shell Print and the Tropic Honeycomb satin ribbons.
More of the same ribbon, but here I’ve added in some ivory burlap string for texture.
I used Coral Rose Swiss Dot Ribbon to add some texture and design to these pages.
And added some sweet Cosmos Daisies to the diamond satin ribbon here.
The final page has more of the swiss dot coral ribbon and a couple more sweet blooms with lots of room for photos.
Now I want to go up in a hot air balloon! How about you? Be sure to visit the Really Reasonable Ribbon blog for more inspiration and details on how you can play along in this fun challenge!
Thanks for stopping by!

Wow, it’s beautiful! I can’t believe it started out as a cake mix box!!
Gorgeous album Kathy! Who would have thought that it started with a cake mix box? What a great idea for upcycling. Thanks for sharing with us.
Perfection!!! Thanks Kathy!

Beautiful album and how did you
make the pages connect inside?
I’ve ridden in a balloon, pretty
peaceful, just floating on the
breeze! Have fun.

Oh wow, this is just amazing. You do such fabulous work!!!
HI Kathy, you recycle like me. I use cereal boxes instead of chip board for making bookmarks an some tags., etc. Also wash the wax paper inside of them, and use that over my die cuts for better cuts on the detailed ones. I love your album, so much to see and so much to enjoy, like a vacation. I like the boat, but not the balloon, frightening to me. but love to see them flying. well done Kathy. a nice gift too.
Now you see, I would never have thought about using a cake box!! You are just amazing. Love this album, your use of colour and of course the details, the details are wonderful. I must learn how to put pages in an album, not to swift at that sort of thing. Great job Kathy, great job.
Scrumptious!
those color combos are stunning! love them!! just curious… what do you do with all of your completed projects? etsy?
Wonderful!
What a flood of nostalgia! I love all the pictures you chose to decorate these booklets. The evoke feelings of days gone by, the grandness of the Titanic, the best travel can offer. The warmth of the sun on an Italian coast with a glass of Lemoncello! I will fly in a balloon! I would love that! When can we go?
As always beautiful work!
Clever use of having your cake and eat it Kathy!!! Another beautiful project, every time you look you see something different. Chocolate and coral colours look great together. Not sure I’m with you on balloon trip, think I will just watch x
oh my goodness that is just totally amazing. Cannot wait to show Michelle xxxx
