Cozy Moments Slimline Shaker Card Folio Tutorial

Ciao Bella Cozy Moments Slimline Shaker Card Folio Tutorial for Wonderful Wednesday

Hello, Friends!  It’s Wonderful Wednesday and I have a lovely Ciao Bella Cozy Moments Slimline Shaker Card Tutorial to share with you today.  Several of you asked me to do a tutorial based on my Really Reasonable Ribbon July Blog Hop Project.  More of you asked me to create another Christmas project using the Cozy Moments collection.  So this Christmas in July Birthday Card of the Month tutorial answers both of those requests.

How to Use Christmas Papers in a Birthday Card Design

My challenge for this Birthday card of the Month tutorial was to use Christmas papers in the design.  Here are a few tips to help you do the same:

  • First, steer away from more traditional colors and themes in favor of less traditional themes and colors. The strong botanical/farmhouse vibe and neutral color palette of Cozy Moments works well on a birthday card.
  • Add some shabby chic colors and elements to the very neutral color palette. This not only warms it up, but gives it more of a birthday card vibe.
  • Choose seasonal, but not necessarily holiday embellishments. Pretty Prima Christmas Poinsettias, sparkly  snowflakes and a darling little chipboard element from Reneabouquets help transform this Christmas/winter paper into a birthday card design.
Spellbinders Embroidery Hoops

i appreciate dies that can be used in lots of different ways.  That’s why I designed my Gift Card Wallet Die with such a simple shape.  By scoring the die differently, it makes a great magnetic flap on the card front.

Spellbinders has just released a great sewing themed die collection called Nichol’s Needlework.  I’ll show you how to use one of the wooden embroidery hoops to make the shaker window on the card front.

A Peek Inside

Don’t you love these bunnies? You will learn how to create the magnetic flap closure on this interactive card during the course of the video tutorial.

Stamped, gold embossed sentiments add a lovely touch of elegance to the card design.

And of course there’s a pocket!

Add a pretty bookmark and gift card wallet to transform the card into a gift.

Wow what a wonderful way to create a birthday card for a Christmas time recipient. The colours, design and surprises within are a delight. Decorating the tab on the front and using the versatile hoop for a shaker section is bang on. Love the shabby chic elements too. Honestly Kathy this folio is soooo original and a wonderful way to take the what can be boring browns to the next level. My Kathy book of hints is going to need a part two book added, oooh it will be a series!

Super cold nights here Kathy but glorious fine clear days with time in the garden, in between cardmaking of course……

Just got in from watering the garden for an hour and a half and it’s 90 degrees again today….breaking records here for the longest stretch of 90’s in Bozeman’s history. Wish I could jump right into your card to cool off!

You inspire me so much to try different mediums and supplies I don’t usually use (even though I have them, haha). This is a beautiful card and I can’t wait to make one of my own

What a beautiful card, Kathy! I love the soft colors and wintery scenes. And the little girl on the front and the bunny images are adorable! The card design is wonderful allowing for so many places to add beautiful paper. Thank you for sharing! Hugs!
